Of course, simply smashing down the Ice Moon, letting this mass of immense energy crash down, is itself an extremely terrifying attack method. But, the efficiency would be too low, and it wouldn't match Terrance's sense of aesthetics.
Looking at the Ice Moon, Terrance felt delighted in his heart and spoke out loud: "That's enough."
At this point, the Ice Moon was already near its limit. If they continued any further, the Ice Moon probably wouldn't be able to take it and would explode, and at that point, it might flatten the summit of Mt. Chimney. That was definitely not a scene Terrance wanted to see.
If the summit of Mt. Chimney was blasted flat, even if Altaria's mom didn't come after him for it, he'd still feel guilty himself...
"Rotom Pokédex, have you finished the calculations?" After a while, Terrance started to ask about the main issue.
Over there, Rotom Pokédex was still calculating madly, but it seemed the result was in. Upon hearing the question, it immediately flew over, displaying a dense and complicated array of numbers.
These were all special formulas; knowledge derived from a field unique to the Pokémon world, which rely on the existence of these wondrous creatures.
Looking carefully, Terrance frowned. Although the Ice Moon could withstand enormous amounts of Fairy energy—ten times, even dozens of times its own energy—there were still major limitations.
There was no doubt that Ice Moon was the best carrier for Moonblast, but as more and more Fairy energy poured in, Terrance worried that Ice Moon wouldn't be able to hold up.
The stability of the Ice Moon depended on its creator, Ninetales, strength.
However, the stronger Ninetales became, the harder it was to progress further. While reaching the Elite Four level wasn't difficult, even then, it couldn't keep up with the speed at which the Fairy army was expanding.
Just adding this Mt. Chimney Altaria and the sixteen untrained Cutiefly had already pushed Ice Moon close to its limit. When Kirlia evolves or Carbink mutates, even if Ninetales becomes stronger, would the Ice Moon be able to withstand an even more powerful move?
Not to mention, the Fairy army could expand even further in the future.
Realizing this, Terrance, who had just been delighted that Ice Moon could hold so much energy, began to worry again.
"What should I do?"
Lost in thought, Terrance simply plopped down on the ground, propped up his head, and started pondering even harder.
But, thanks to Terrance's experience battling many experts, a solution soon came to mind.
A rather lame solution.
Since one Ice Moon isn't enough, just make two.
If there could be a myth about ten suns on Earth, then Terrance could make ten moons. By then, if an opponent wanted to attack, they probably wouldn't even know which one to target.
As for whether future battles would give rise to stories like "Giovanni shoots down the moon" or "Steven shoots down the moon," that wasn't something Terrance needed to worry about.
"Ninetales, make another Ice Moon."
However, as soon as the words left his mouth, Terrance slapped his forehead in regret. This thoughtless idea wouldn't work, and sure enough, Ninetales quickly conveyed a feeling of embarrassment.
Ninetales's energy control hadn't yet reached that level of mastery.
If, at this moment, Ninetales didn't have to split its focus to control the massive Fairy energy inside the current Ice Moon, it might be able to meet Terrance's request. But right now, the Ice Moon it was controlling was as dangerous as a nuclear bomb. Ninetales simply couldn't afford to be distracted.
The message from Ninetales made Terrance shrug awkwardly. Well, it was true. Ninetales wasn't exactly famous for its computational abilities. Even though it was very clever, just maintaining its current state was already extremely impressive.
Similarly, having Ninetales keep creating more Ice Mirrors wouldn't work either.
With that thought, Terrance rubbed his head and came up with a new idea: since Ninetales couldn't do it, he'd let other Pokémon handle it.
After thinking it over, Terrance's eyes lit up. He took out Castform's Poké Ball again, released Castform, and said, "Castform, I'm counting on you. Start by creating Ice Mirrors. Kirlia, use your psychic power to assist Castform."
"Castformmm~~~"
"Kir~lia"
The two Pokémon nodded, and soon, several Ice Mirrors were completed. Beneath the Ice Moon, countless layers of Ice Mirrors floated in the air in an irregular arrangement, creating a spectacular sight. Thanks to their mental connection, Ninetales and Altaria quickly grasped Terrance's intention and began channeling a wisp of energy from the Ice Moon.
Whoosh!
A strand of Fairy Light, condensed from a wisp of energy drawn from the Ice Moon, quickly shot onto the Ice Mirrors.
Enhanced by the Fairy Aura and amplified by the Ice Moon's reflection, the Fairy Light was incredibly fast. To Terrance's delight, the Ice Mirrors further strengthened the Fairy Light through their own reflection, making it even more powerful...
"Maybe..."
Terrance paused in his thoughts. Maybe a single Ice Moon would suffice, supported by a large number of Ice Mirrors!
Although the Ice Mirrors couldn't boost Moonblast as much as the Ice Moon, they were small in scale, easy to create, simpler to control, and by utilizing their reflective properties, could greatly increase the flexibility of Fairy Light!
The principle was to set up a field of Ice Mirrors and adjust their angles so that not a single beam of Fairy Light was wasted, ultimately achieving...
Hit wherever you point!
At this thought, Terrance was overjoyed.
Reflecting beams with Ice Mirrors was a special technique of Blue, the Elite Four candidate from Kalos, but clearly, the other party hadn't explored it as deeply as Terrance had.
Based on the ability of the Ice Mirror, Terrance soon thought of two other moves: Light Screen and Reflect.
Using Light Screen and Reflect to bounce back beams was Kalos Champion Diantha's signature move.
These Kalos Trainers seemed to really enjoy this style of battling. After some thought, Terrance highly valued the practical application of these techniques. Both had their merits, and Ice Moon was something he developed by building on their techniques.
"Next, let's try Light Screen and Reflect!"
Ice Mirrors, Light Screen, Reflect—since all three methods could reflect light, surely one would work best. Terrance realized this and decided to keep experimenting.
He quickly ordered Castform to stop producing Ice Mirrors and let Kirlia use the moves itself.
First Light Screen, then Reflect!
At the moment, with the Ice Moon at its limit, Terrance really wanted to create more carriers. Ice Mirrors, Light Screen, and Reflect were all great reflective carriers.
But which one he should focus on to develop his own Fairy Domain would depend on which performed best in these experiments!
For Kirlia, controlling Light Screen and Reflect was a piece of cake. Watching Kirlia start creating new carriers after the Ice Mirrors, both Terrance and Rotom Pokédex were filled with anticipation.
Using the massive energy still stored in the Ice Moon, Terrance had Kirlia successively use Light Screen and Reflect to absorb and reflect the Fairy Light. Finally, he compared them to the Ice Mirrors, and the calculated results were just as Terrance expected!
The three different types of moves, based on different principles, each absorbed and reflected Fairy Light in their own way!
