Chapter 17 - CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

The Queen's Diary~

The cold night breeze slipped gently through the thin cotton curtains, drifting into Queen Elizabeth's chamber. It brushed softly against her skin, carrying with it the scent of damp earth and blooming flowers from the palace gardens. The night was quiet, peaceful… almost perfect.

Just like how the palace walls has been lately. No sound to celebration,no sound of joyful giggling or festivity, just the quite cold early winter breeze and silent grieve of the kingdom loses filled the air, making the palace its grave yard.

Ever since the king's decree and the news of her pregnancy, an unusual silence had settled over the royal halls. The whispers had become quieter, yet Elizabeth could still feel them lingering behind every glance and every bowed head.

Watching her with eyes filled with pity, as though they were already mourning both the queen and the child she carried.

She turned onto her side, pulling the soft sheets tightly around herself, hoping that, just this once, sleep would find her.

But how could one sleep when both the heart and the mind refuses to be at peace?

With a weary sigh, Elizabeth sat up and slowly climbed out of bed. Her long white night robe, almost transparent beneath the moonlight, flowed gracefully behind her as it brushed against the polished marble floor.

She walked toward the window.

The moon hung high above the kingdom, surrounded by countless stars that glittered like tiny diamonds scattered across a dark velvet sky. It was beautiful… breathtaking, even.

Yet Elizabeth found no comfort in it.

She rested both hands on the windowsill and stared into the distance.

This isn't the life I dreamed of as a child… And this isn't the life I was promised as a queen.

Her gaze slowly drifted downward.

Carefully, Elizabeth knelt beneath the window and reached into a narrow opening hidden within the stone wall. From it, she pulled out a small wooden case wrapped in faded cloth.

It was the very case Kira had secretly given her the previous day in the royal library.

According to Kira, it had once belonged to the late Queen.

Elizabeth gently ran her fingers across its surface. The box was sealed with an ancient royal crest carved into the wood. Whatever lay inside remained hidden, for only someone of royal blood could break the seal and uncover the mystery it protected.

Kira's words echoed in her mind.

"This is what got my mother arrested. A palace maid discovered she possessed an item bearing the royal seal. They took her away… but before they did, she hid the case and led me to where it was concealed. It was the last thing she also entrusted to me before they killed her."

Elizabeth instinctively looked around the room, making sure no one was watching from the shadows beyond the doorway or the windows.

Only then did she lower her eyes back to the wooden case resting in her hands.

Whatever was hidden inside had survived for years. Whatever secret it carried had cost someone their life.

And tonight… That secret was about to become hers.

Elizabeth tightened her grip on the box.

What could possibly be worse than everything I've already endured?

If opening it changed her life forever… it would either be for good or for worst, but what could possibly be more worst that her possible fate, perhaps that was exactly what she needed.

Elizabeth took a deep breath before slowly lifting the lid of the wooden case.

Inside rested an old book.

Its worn leather cover bore the marks of time, yet it remained strangely beautiful. Delicate golden patterns curled around its edges like flowing vines, while an ancient royal crest was engraved at its center, untouched by age.

It looked less like a book…

And more like a relic that had survived centuries.

Elizabeth carefully lifted it from the case, surprised by how light it felt in her hands.

Across the cover, beneath the royal crest, were words written in an ancient language she had never seen before.

Yet…

She could read them. Strange. she thought to herself

"I Alíthia Pou Zitó, Íne I Elefthería Pou Hriázese" meaning the truth I seek is the freedom you need.

The moment the last syllable left her lips, the book suddenly trembled. A brilliant golden light burst from its pages, flooding the entire chamber.

"W-What…?"

Elizabeth stumbled backward in fright. Before she could react, the book slipped from her hands.

She expected it to crash onto the floor, Instead It remained suspended in midair.

Its pages began flipping wildly on their own, one after another, as though an invisible force was searching for something hidden within them.

A powerful wind swept through the room, sending the curtains dancing and extinguishing every candle except the pale moonlight spilling through the window.

Elizabeth's heart pounded violently against her chest.

"What… what is happening?" Her voice trembled.

For a long moment, she simply stood there, frozen in disbelief, watching the ancient book float before her.

Gathering every ounce of courage she had left, Elizabeth slowly stepped forward.

She hesitated.

Then, with trembling fingers, she reached toward the glowing book. The instant her hands touched its cover, the light vanished and the pages stopped turning.

Silence returned to the chamber as the book gently settled into her hands once more. Elizabeth stared at it, her breathing uneven.

Looking at the handwriting, Elizabeth realized it too was written in the same ancient language as the words on the cover.

And yet, She could read every single word.

Her lips parted. "…Entry I," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Today, the heavens blessed me with two sons.

The first arrived beneath a silver moon, his hair as white as winter's first snow, his skin pale as marble. Richard held him in his arms and laughed with such pride that the palace itself seemed brighter.

We called him Kataigidos, born of the storm.

And the second, unlike his brother, his hair was as dark as the midnight sky, and his eyes carried a peace I have never seen in any child. He did not cry for long. Instead, he looked at me… as though he already knew this world was not made for gentle souls.

We called him Anax, the supreme leader. As he was destined to rule over the seven kingdoms and and even beyond.

Unknown to me that a day would come when fate would force me to choose one over the other.

Elizabeth's fingers tightened around the edge of the page.

Her heartbeat quickened. Two son's? The queen had two sons?

Slowly…Elizabeth flipped to the next page.

Entry II

I saw blood, I saw the Dragon Blazer Sword and I saw my husband fall. And I saw my him standing over Richard.

When the vision ended, I left my homeland at once. I knew I needed to return back to the palace, I called upon my friend for help and on her wings she flew me back, but it was too take.

I rushed to Richard's chambers and threw open the doors and there he was. Holding the blazer sword with blood on it and Richard lying on his pool of blood.

The Dragon Blazer Sword hung loosely from his hand, crimson blood dripping from its blade onto the marble floor.

He slowly turned toward me.

His silver hair stained with blood and his eyes… They were no longer the eyes of my son, they were empty. Cold. As though something far older had taken residence within him.

"Mother…"

His voice trembled. It was not hatred I heard. It was pain, years of pain, years of anger buried without those years.

Lightning erupted from my hands as the palace walls trembled beneath our power. His white flames clashed against my magic, tearing through the royal chambers until stone pillars crumbled around us.

Every spell I cast was meant to stop him, Never to kill him. But he no longer fought like my son. He fought like a king possessed by a demon. I cried out for him to stop this madness but he was lost, too lost to even hear me,too lost by his rage to see me.

I knew I couldn't defeat him,how could I bring myself to killing my own son. Tears fell down my eyes as I fell to the floor beside Richard and my wounds bleed on every side,I welled and screamed in agony.

From behind, he stormed towards me aiming to for one last thrust, and u felt it,the dragon Blazer Sword pierced through my final barrier, I closed my eyes… accepting that a mother would die by her own child's hand.

Then…

A second force erupted through the chamber, throwing him across the hall as though struck by the heavens themselves.

I opened my eyes. Dark hair…standing between us. His hand was raised, shielding me from any attack.

I needed to put an end to this,or I would loose another to the greedy hands of death. So I did what only a mother could do…
