Chapter 87 - Chapter 84: Into the Fog

Hello Hello! BIG NEWS

Thanks for joining for another read, may this chapter find you well or make you so.

MAJOR UPDATE:

For this last year I have decided that I wanted MORE. I want to create more and I want to share more, but as one person I also learned that doing more will end up creating less. I just love writing so much and I can't imagine doing anything else with my life. But I don't want to compromise on the quality of my creative.

Do it all at once and you end up doing nothing.

So, I am working on original stories, new fanfictions and a blog.

In order to give you more stories, and give myself time to create more content, I've decided to focus on certain projects so I can actually progress quickere. And if you want to see what that means for you, start by:

Going to Tumblr: to see Schedule and to receive updates and new content news from here.

CHAPTER 84

Izuku's quirk that suddenly erupted had caught the attention of their classmates, who were able to view the scene from a distance, but even then it didn't feel safe. It was like watching a raging bull trying to shake off its rider, and that rider was Izuku. The only problem was he was entirely attached but that only succeeded to make things worse, as it appeared like the quirk was trying to rip itself from his very body. And it didn't take long for them to realize Izuku had become a captive in the mouth of his own quirk.

He was unwillingly dragged through the dirt and air, but it was all happening so fast that for a few seconds, all his classmates could do was watch with the expression of a scream mask.

Momo attempted to regain her composure and looked to Tenya. "What's going on with Midoriya?"

However, it was a good twenty seconds before Tenya could compute a response, as his worry for his friend outweighed any sense of composure, as well as the urgency to assess the situation.

His glasses reflected the erratic flashes of dark energy that enveloped Izuku's arm, as he saw this Tenya felt his jaw ache from clenching. "I don't know…I don't know what's going on!"

"What should we do?"

Again he wasn't able to answer quickly.

.

"They look like whips!" Hanta observed narrowing his eyes at them. He and Ochaco had come down from the skies to get a closer look at things and they were even worse from this angle. Everyone from class A who was able to recover from Sakura's brutal counter had come to witness this spectacle of unexplained events and they were just as gob-struck and confused as their top exam rankers. And also clueless about what the right move would be.

It was clear that Izuku had lost control of something, but they didn't know if it was his quirk or if something else was happening here. This wasn't typical of his power which usually resulted in an output of force and broken bones. No, this time, his quirk seemed to have taken on a mind of its own and it had some violent intents. That's why no one wanted to approach recklessly either.

Minoru's mouth hung open, trembling lips parting, "THAT LOOKS TERRIFYING!

"What's happening to Midoriya?" Mezouhad all of his eyes focused on Izuku, including his tentacles. He was probably one of the few who could see how precarious the situation had become.

"Deku!" Ochaco's voice carried upwards, but there were concerned cracks in that firmness. "You have to stop!"

But Izuku couldn't. His body jerked violently as the black tendrils yanked him through the dirt, his gloved fingers clawing at the earth in a futile attempt to anchor himself. Tears streaked through the grime on his face, not just from the physical pain he endured of his tendons and muscles and skin stretching out or the actual sensation of having something tear through his skin from the inside, but from the crushing frustration of helplessness.

Just as he was getting a hold of One for All reigns, it takes a sharp turn that knocks him off course and that wasn't even the worst part.

The power surged again, the tendrils stretching outward like the grasping fingers trying to catch you in a nightmare. Its reach far and seemingly infinite, as if nothing was out of its range and it poured towards the rest of class A. As if it was ready to tear through everything in its way without bias.

Thankfully, everyone was trained well enough to counter the unexpected attack even while they carried the weight of their worries for Izuku's safety.

After a few careful ducks and shifts, Katsuki barely dodged as one lashed past his face, close enough to feel the static charge in the air.

"Damn it, Deku YOU DAMN-!"

Shoto hit the ground in a roll, ice erupting in a defensive wall that shattered instantly under the whip's impact. He glared up at Izuku and saw the way he was holding onto his wrist like he wanted to snap it off. "Midoriya…."

Tsuyu grabbed Toru and yanked her out of the way just in time, while Kyoka and Minoru scrambled behind a fallen tree.

And admits all of the noise and scattering from this aerial assault, Sakura stood eerily still even when the whips lashed out towards her. Her eyes stayed calm and fixated on a single being. Then her fingers curled into her palm.

Ochaco couldn't stand watching this any longer. Touching her fingers together, she activated her quirk, and slowly her feet lifted from the ground, her eyes locked onto Izuku's form. However, she felt something anchor her mid-air, her boot caught by what she thought might be a tree root, but she saw a gloved hand on her foot.

"Sakura-

She gasped as she pulled back and hit the ground, bouncing due to her quirk still being activated but when she looked up, all she could see was the back of Sakura. No, it wasn't just a back, it was a barrier.

Though his classmates managed to avoid taking any damage, Izuku felt the familiar sense of despair in his throat, and it was growing with his desperation. He could hear the pleas inside his head grow louder, his voice screaming inside of him to stop this rampage before this power caused irreparable damage.

'Why?' he wondered, his voice silencing the chaos around him, even cutting through his pain in his arm that felt like his skin and flesh were being pulled from the bone in every direction these whips of energy were going. 'Stop. One for All! I don't want to make anyone worry!'

After all the effort he put into training this power, after countless scoldings and broken bones, his scarred hands and crooked fingers that would never point straight again, just when he believed he was making this power his own. When things finally seemed to be falling into place, the foundation under him crumbled, as frail as ash.

Then Izuku felt it. Something curled around his shoulders, grasping his arm, and wrapping around his waist in a tight hold. He opened his eyes and they clashed with another shade of green that was watching him intently as if waiting for him to turn to them and see the assurance and strength within. Because that's what Izuku saw when he looked into Sakura's eyes as she held onto him. Despite the way his quirk was lashing out, she remained firm in focusing on him.

A whip snapped toward her and she didn't move. The energy grazed her arm, splitting skin and fabric alike. Blood welled, but she didn't flinch. Another lash came, she let it hit her, keeping her grasp on Izuku without wavering.

Everything was like a film running in the spool, the world a blur of violent velocity. It sent them careening through the forest at terrifying speed. Izuku's stomach lurched as trees became green streaks in his vision, branches whipping at his skin as the tendrils dragged them like rag dolls through the undergrowth. Then he felt an impact of Sakura's back slamming into a branch and cracking it.

"Midoriya, Sakura!" Tenya called, chasing after the two, with Katsuki and Shoto in close pursuit. The rest of their classmates trying to catch up as well.

Tenya's engines roared somewhere behind them, the sound fading as the tendrils carried them deeper into the wilderness.

"Damn it, DEKU!" Katsuki's explosions punctuated his rage as he gave chase, weaving through the trees with uncharacteristic caution. "Get a fucking grip already!"

Somewhere in the distance, their classmates' voices echoed, fragmented and frantic.

"We're losing them!" Momo's cry.

"Dammit, where'd they go?!" Katsuki's roar.

But Izuku barely heard them.

All he could feel was the pressure, the way the tendrils writhed under his skin like living things, begging to be let loose. They had turned the stable forest into a living obstacle course. The black strings stuck to trunks and rocks indiscriminately, almost like spiderwebs, changing their trajectory with violent unpredictability. One second they were skidding along the ground, the next they were being flung through the air as the energy sought new anchors. Sakura's arms tightened around him, her body twisting midair to take the brunt of a collision.

Izuku's vision now swam with tears and frustration, as he tried to get a grip of his power that continued to slide through his fingers.

Then Sakura's voice cut through the maelstrom of thoughts "Izuku, calm down,"

"I-I can't! I don't- I can't control this!" He said through gritted teeth.

"You have to stop fighting," Sakura said, gripping his wrist, "This is your power, it's not your enemy. Bend it to your will,"

But Izuku didn't know how to do that. All his training, everything was being overwhelmed by panic, and the fear not for his own safety but for Sakura who was taking the brunt of his power.

Then she did something unexpected, she turned Izuku around to face her, her hands gripping his face, "Look at me," He opened his eyes, unaware of the tips of Sakura's hands that were glowing full of chakra, slipping passed his temple. His eyes that were usually vibrant started to cloud over, as if a fog had started within them.

"There's nothing to fear, trust me,"

That was the last thing Izuku heard before his world went black.

The black tendrils froze mid-lash, their jagged edges stiffening like obsidian shards caught in a photograph. Izuku hung suspended in the air, Sakura's hands still cradling his face, their bodies locked in a moment.

That was the sight their classmates received when they arrived on the scene.

"What the hell is this?"

..

..

..

The world dissolved into darkness-not the gentle fade of sleep that was like a soft lull, but as if a sword had fallen and severed reality itself, abruptly and without discretion. One moment, Izuku was thrashing against the storm of his own power; the next, he stood in a void so absolute it seemed to swallow sound, light, and even the memory of warmth.

And yet he could see. However that was all he could do, his mouth was gone, along with the rest of him, wrapped in a thick black fog, but it was solid enough that his voice couldn't pass through the mist.

'Where?' His eyes kept trying to search through the darkness, but then he heard footsteps. Heavy, deliberate footsteps and his stare went straight ahead. That's when a figure emerged from the dark a mountain of a man, broad-shouldered, shaved head with harsh features.

"You've got it wrong!" he boomed, stomping forward until he loomed over Izuku, "We said 'you're not alone."

Izuku recoiled or would have if the fog had allowed it.

"This power ain't something you can use without thinking anymore!" the man barked, jabbing a finger at Izuku's chest. "It's got teeth now! And if you don't learn to hold the damn leash, it'll bite you first!"

If Izuku could have spoken, he would have argued. Would have screamed that he never used his power without thinking, that if anything, he overthought every spark, every surge, every fracture of bone. But One for All had evolved too quickly, faster than Izuku could keep up. He realized that the man standing in front of him must've been one of the previous wielders of his quirk, passed down through the ages until it reached Izuku. But he had never seen this person before. He wanted to ask the man to shine some light on his identity but the fog held his voice hostage.

The man huffed, crossing his arms. "Listen, kid. Do your best. Work hard. Pretty much everything will work itself out."

Something else crossed Izuku's mind aside from the man's words, rather it was the fact he was standing in front of him so solid. He assumed all he should be able to see were vestiges, but this presence felt real. And what of the other holders? Were they all living inside this quirk?

Are they alive inside One For All?

"Alright, kid, listen up I haven't got much time." The man leaned in. "That quirk you used? The black whip? That was mine. Our quirks mixed with the core of One For All. That tiny spark that's always been at its heart? It's growing. Starting to move."

He gestured sharply, opening up his hand to expose the palm, and the void rippled, images flashing like lightning, Izuku, lashing out in frustration, the tendrils exploding forth.

"I was a catcher. Black-whip. My quirk was meant to grab, to hold. But with One For All's power behind it?" He grinned. "It's a damn beast. And if you let anger fuel it, it'll react. That's what happened out there."

"Interesting."

Izuku's head whipped around to catch the new but familiar voice. The fog resisted, but the shadows parted, and there strolling in was-

Sakura.

It wasn't a specter or half-form wisp like Izuku, she came in full, stepping into the void as casually as walking through a door. Her expression, was unsettling for Izuku as she came through exceptionally nonchalant. As if stepping into someone else's subconscious was a regular occurrence.

Even the former vestige was startled by her appearance, "The hell? How'd you get in here?"

Sakura tilted her head. "Same way Izuku did, I suppose." She glanced at Izuku, still bound in the fog, and her mouth quirked. "I'm just here to make sure he gets back safely. Everyone's waiting for him after all."

'Did she just walk into One for All?' How could that even be possible? As if wandering into the metaphysical world of a centuries-old quirk was a Tuesday afternoon errand.

"Damn. You gotta have some serious power of your own to pull that off." He shook his head, then turned back to Izuku, his expression sobering. "Then I won't keep ye. But listen-

He pressed a finger to Izuku's chest, right over his heart through the fog.

"It's fine to get mad. Anger is a source of power. But you gotta control it really carefully. One For All's been through eight people now and it's gotten extremely strong. And you've got six more quirks waiting to wake up in you." His eyes burned brighter. "Control your heart and master all of us. Do your best kid. We're with you! You're the one who will complete One for All."

Then he was gone, fading away into the darkness, becoming like a clearing mist. The fog shuddered, its grip loosening just enough for Sakura to step forward and took Izuku's hand. It was then he remembered that someone else was there to witness this exchange with the phantom inside his quirk.

That's when Izuku felt a tinge of panic, wondering how he was going to explain his way out of this. But she didn't throw any questions. Only grasping his hand and pulling him along.

"Let's get out of here," she said.

And just like that. The darkness changed.

The void peeled away like layers of old paint, and it was replaced by a forest. It was quiet thought, and very different from the torn-up terrain they had left behind. Somehow Izuku could feel it, they weren't quite back.

They were still inside. But it wasn't in his quirk, so where exactly were they?

"How?" Sakura didn't answer immediately. She led him forward, her steps sure, her grip firm.

"I'm not entirely sure," she admitted. And Izuku could see she appeared slightly perplexed, not a usual mask for Sakura to wear.

She knew this place. When she had led Izuku through the darkness, she expected to bring them both back to the outside, however, this was the first time she had ever stepped into another. But she felt like the exit was close like the path was already marked. She just had to get them through it.

The forest around them dissolved like watercolor in rain, the trees bleeding into shadow as Sakura led Izuku forward. The light was bright, compared to the golden hue that had settled into the afternoon. This time was earlier in the day.

"Why are we….?"

"Maybe because I was thinking about it so much today," Sakura murmured, her voice distant. She wasn't even panicked at the prospect of what was to come, rather she continued forward, holding onto Izuku, guiding him through the familiar path with an eagerness in her tug.

They entered a clearing and walked ahead, and that's when Izuku saw the figures they were closing in on. Three children, near logs that stood up like poles. One of them, a blonde boy was tied to his. Another, dark-haired boy with fury in his eyes comparable to Katsuki's was pinned under the foot of a silver-haired man whose presence seemed to suck the warmth from the air. Reminding him of Aizawa.

And the third…

Izuku's breath caught in his throat. There was no mistake, that the little girl, in the red odd-fitting dress and long pink hair was none other than Sakura. But not as he knew her. This Sakura was small, her pink hair longer and far better kept, her face round with youth and her eyes filled with naivety he couldn't imagine her holding. Her expression was one Izuku had never seen on her before, helpless and lost. Wide-eyed and uncertain, her fingers clenched in the fabric of her dress.

He looked at Sakura with silent questioning, the one who held his hand as she paused to take in the scene. Her eyes were heavy with reminiscence that he didn't want to break her from this. He was free to move away and break away from her hold, but Izuku feared that if he did, he would wake up and lose sight of this side of her.
