Chapter 5 - T-Virus Burn

Jon jerked upright in the early morning hours as the sun peaked through the cracks in the tree branches head aching as his senses seemed to dial all the way up then tone back down.

Squatting on the thick branch Jon reached around to his back feeling the way the left-over material from the jackets stuck to his back yet he felt no pain from the motion of reaching back at all.

Turning around to look at the tree he could see the two damaged bullets wedged into the bark probably from where they had been ejected out of his back. Reaching up to touch the edge of his face Jon could feel the scars that went up along his jawline towards his nose.

He had recovered scarred up but still alive and ready to defend himself again. A rustling pulled Jon from his thoughts drawing his eye to the forest floor where he could see a partially torn up body shuffling forward.

It was wandering aimlessly organs trailing after it while a rifle hung loosely across its body coated in blood a few others following after it.

Shortly after the group passed him by, he saw the familiar drones shifting through the woods in the distance on a completely different path from the zombies that had just wandered by.

This town was well and truly fucked with both of these horror creatures walking it and the surrounding area the T-Virus was also infecting people it would be airborne within days once it mutated.

Looking at the distance between trees and the disappearing zombies Jon leapt feet hitting off of the trunk of the next tree using his enhanced intelligence to the limit. Within a moment he had covered the small amount of ground that the zombies had gained on him launching himself downwards a wild haymaker caving in a skull.

Wiping around he swept the legs on the zombie with the rifle forcing it up into the air where he grabbed the rifle yanking it free the strap breaking while flinging the zombie headfirst into a tree.

Taking a second to look over the assault rifle Jon figured out quickly how to change the firing settings as well as how to eject the clip heading towards the now completely dead zombie to search for ammo.

In a few seconds he had two clips secured into his pants pocket tossing aside the ruined puffer coat and the thinner remains of the other jacket finding himself standing there in a tight black shirt and the cargo pants.

He was removing more because of the damage to them than not needing the extra cushioning that they provided. Already he could hear the drones moving around nearby as the sounds of bones caving in and a body smacking solidly into a tree wasn't exactly quiet.

Aiming down the sights into the forest around him Jon listened carefully whipping around while dropping to one knee firing off two shots into the drone that was in mid-air.

Rolling to the side Jon laid onto the ground firing off a single shot acid blood and bits of drone brain splattering onto a tree. Flipping onto his back he lashed out with a snap kick sending the drone that had attacked last face first into the dirt.

Gripping the tail that had been flailing around Jon gave a grunt of effort wiping what must have been the three-hundred-pound drone into a tree using both hands taking the moment after it hit the ground to put it down.

[Level Up! X3]

The alert was silent letting him know that the fight was done for a second something that would have taken him out a few hours before now he had dismantled in seconds.

Grabbing the tails of all of the dead xenomorphs Jon started to drag them all through the woods heading towards the town intent on putting on a sort of show as he knew a team of Predators would be arriving soon or were already there.

It was a sort of uphill trek towards the town, but he had seen the sign of passage by large groups of zombies. Though they didn't seem to be around anymore at the moment at least.

Come over the hill Jon found himself unable to process what he was seeing at the moment as the material that the drones secreted covered a number of buildings and bits of flesh covered others.

Buildings were on fire and in the sky was a faint shimmer black smoke stuck at the top escaping very slowly.

Probably a final containment attempt by Umbrella if he remembered the movies correctly, they would probably go with the faulty nuclear reactor move because they always set those up above major labs.

Hurling the bodies down the hill he found himself standing on Jon watched as patches of dirt and grass hissed from the acid blood splashing about leaving a destroyed mess in its wake.

They soon rolled to a stop against the still partially flaming remains of a pizza delivery truck. A young man's body was slung across the ground in front of it as well chest split open from the inside.

Not far away Jon could see a familiar but bloody face leaned against a gun store across the street from the wrecked vehicle. The guy was the older brother of the young man dead on the ground, but they weren't meant to die.

Bounding down the hill he slid to a stop in the road listening intently for a moment before heading to the half dead man against the building.

"Hey there man." Jon winced at the words he spoke scanning over the wounds on the man.

"Get out of here while you still can."

"Don't think I can and for that matter no one else can get out of here either."

"What the hell do you mean? Umbrella hauled a truck load of people away a few hours ago."

"Hate to tell you this but those people are either test subjects now or forcefully recruited they will be nothing but drones by the end of the week if they aren't in the shield when everything is engulfed in fiery destruction."

A cough had Dallas spitting up blood onto his chest a bloody bite on his neck showing that he was infected and an ever so faint squirming and shifting in his chest drew Jon's attention.

Taking hold of Dallas by the shoulders Jon focused on the sound yanking the man upright slamming him against the wall as he laid an ear against his chest.

It only took a few seconds to confirm that there was a chestburster moving around yet it seemed to be having issues. If he remembered correctly, they were supposed to be developed based off of the genetic information they assumed from the host, but the T-virus was in there.

"Sorry." Jon violently snapped Dallas' neck letting the body fall to the ground putting a round in his chest.

A faint squeal that died out rapidly sounded out of the body a pistol sliding out of the back of his waistband.

"Seems you didn't intend to let it progress much further."

Checking the pistol over Jon made sure a round was chambered before shifting the rifle across his back pistol held loosely as he rounded the corner of the gun shop.

Looking through the broken windows guns were still sitting on the racks and glass counters were broken open bits of shells and different types of ammo laying amongst the glass.

Stepping into the building through a broken window Jon was careful to not step on any glass even though he knew that if there was anything in the shop it had definitely heard the gunshot outside.

Moving amongst the racks Jon made sure to grab a holster that the pistol fit into securing it to his thigh with the pistol in it a moment later grabbing a few clips that matched as well.

Taking a few boxes of ammo that after a careful look over he determined where the same he stuffed them into one of his cargo pockets on his pants.

There were even some boxes for the rifle he had acquired on the body of the zombie a quick search in the nooks and crannies of the shop rewarding him with a dark green vest that had pockets all over.

Allowing him to store more of what he found including a couple of cleaning and maintenace kits that he hooked to his belt loops.

There was no telling really how long this phase would last or if another event would see him stranded in this same horrible universe for even longer than originally expected again.

All Jon could do was prepare to survive.
