The great deserts have become the headquarters of big guilds of earth due to it's large area with very meager population.
After, the new technologies/ Manacraft's introduced into the market. Till then, The Human civilization has completely discard it's past and have started walking on the path of rapid development.
Nowadays, Flying cars, skyscrapers etc. have became a norm and production is as easy as breathing for humans.
