Chapter 9 - Wu Xuan

Li Wei sat at the cafeteria table with his bowl of steaming noodles in front of him.

He took a slurp of the savory broth and sighed in relief, finally able to enjoy his lunch in peace. But it was short-lived.

"Um, Li Wei? Do you think you can solve this problem?" Wu Xuan's voice interrupted his thoughts.

Li Wei looked up to see Wu Xuan standing in front of him with a notebook in his hand. Li Wei frowned, feeling annoyed that he couldn't even eat without being bothered.

'This guy won't give up, will he?' Li Wei thought.

Li Wei reluctantly took the notebook and looked at the problem.

His mind raced as he tried to remember any math he had learned in his previous life.

Unfortunately, he couldn't recall anything useful.

His mind felt like it was in a blender.

"What the heck is this problem?" Li Wei muttered under his breath.

Wu Xuan chuckled.

"It's just algebra, Li Wei. You should know this by now, right?"

Li Wei groaned inwardly. He had never been good at math, and it seemed like Wu Xuan was determined to make him suffer.

He took a deep breath and tried to focus on the problem, but it was no use.

He had no idea where to even begin. He felt like a fraud, and he hated it.

"I'm sorry, Wu Xuan. I don't know how to solve this," Li Wei said, handing the notebook back to him.

Wu Xuan's smile faltered for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure.

"Oh, it's okay. Thanks for trying, Li Wei. I thought you would know this simple problem."

...

Li Wei had been unable to catch a break since Wu Xuan introduced himself.

Every day, the guy would pester him with all kinds of academic questions.

Li Wei couldn't shake the feeling that Wu Xuan already knew the answers, but asked him anyway just to test him.

After the incident at the cafeteria, Li Wei had hoped that Wu Xuan would leave him alone.

But to his dismay, Wu Xuan continued to bombard him with questions whenever they crossed paths.

One day, as Li Wei was rolling down the hallway to his next class, he heard a familiar voice call out to him.

"Hey Li Wei, wait up!" Wu Xuan called out as he jogged up to him.

Li Wei sighed inwardly, already anticipating the onslaught of questions.

"What's up?" he asked, trying to sound as disinterested as possible.

To his surprise, Wu Xuan didn't ask him any questions this time.

"I was wondering if you want to hang out at my house this weekend," Wu Xuan asked with his signature smile.

"What? Hang out at your house?"

Li Wei repeated, unable to hide his surprise.

Wu Xuan nodded eagerly.

"Yeah! We can play some video games, watch movies, or study together. It'll be fun!"

Li Wei couldn't believe what he was hearing.

This guy had been tormenting him for days with non-stop questions, and now he was inviting him to his house?

He felt a mix of confusion and suspicion.

"Why are you suddenly being so nice to me?"

Wu Xuan's smile faltered for a moment before he quickly regained his composure.

"What do you mean? I just want to be friends and hang out. It's not that deep."

Li Wei narrowed his eyes, still skeptical.

But a part of him was also curious about what Wu Xuan's house was like.

"Fine," he finally said with a shrug.

"I'll come over this weekend."

Wu Xuan beamed at him. "Great! I'll text you the details."

Li Wei watched as Wu Xuan walked away, still feeling uneasy about the whole thing.

He couldn't shake off the feeling that this was all a ploy to catch him off guard and ask him more questions.

...

That weekend...

Li Wei couldn't believe his eyes as he stood before the magnificent western mansion.

It was a sight to behold with its grand car driveway and several sleek, luxurious cars parked in the front.

The fountain at the center of the driveway sprayed out water gracefully, adding to the stunning display.

Li Wei felt like he had been transported to a completely different world.

He looked around, taking in the beauty of the surroundings.

The well-manicured lawn and the perfectly trimmed hedges only added to the already impressive property.

"This is your house?" he asked, in disbelief.

Wu Xuan grinned sheepishly. "Yeah, I know it's not that big."

Li Wei couldn't help but think, 'Son of a bitch...you really had to posture, didn't you?'

Wu Xuan was dressed in simple clothing this time, but Li Wei could still see that they were high quality.

He couldn't help but feel a little self-conscious about his own simple outfit.

"Let's go."

Wu Xuan pushed Li Wei into the house and Li Wei was shocked by the interior of the mansion. But he didn't show it outside since he knew Wu Xuan was expecting him to show it.

As soon as they entered the house, a kind-looking middle-aged woman approached them, anxiously running to Wu Xuan.

"Young master Wu, you shouldn't strain yourself with these activities! Let me do it," she said, trying to grab the wheelchair from Wu Xuan.

Wu Xuan's smile faltered for a bit, but it quickly appeared again as he blocked her from doing that.

"It's alright, Aunt Po. You go bring some drinks for my friend here. I'll bring him to my room," he said sternly as he looked at Aunt Po.

Aunt Po looked shocked but quickly nodded to show her understanding and went to the kitchen.

Li Wei felt like a boiled potato as he watched this exchange.

'Da fuq...'

...

"This is my room," Wu Xuan said with a smile as he led Li Wei into his room, which was just as extravagant as the rest of the house.

The comfortable bed looked like it could easily fit three people, and the room was filled with rows and rows of books.

Li Wei couldn't help but feel intimidated by the sheer amount of knowledge in the room.

"Wow, you really like to read," Li Wei commented, trying to make small talk.

Wu Xuan smiled proudly. "I try to read as much as I can. It's important to keep learning, you know?"

Li Wei felt a pang of jealousy. This guy seemed to have it all - good looks, wealthy parents, and a strong work ethic.

'If only I had been reincarnated as him.'
