The chances of Rita ever reaching out to Jermaine in any way were very slim and that was sort of the bitter truth that he knew but was struggling to accept. Rita went about the rest of her day as usual and after her shift she went over at Claret's ."Honestly I thought i missed him and wanted to see him so bad but now that i have i dont feel anything ,, even the sparks that i thought were there ,, i cant even feel them ",she said to her bestie as she poured herself a glass of wine ,, "Well that could only mean one thing ,, you no longer fancy him ", she said as she smiled at Rita . Rita may not have felt anything but one thing was for sure ,, there was something between she and Jermaine that was worth exploring even for old times sake ,, she just had to give herself a shot at this thing called love.
"Ooh by the way he mentioned that he's still in touch with all our former schoolmates and that i was the only one remaining to have the whole class ,, he also said that they were planning a reunion in the form of a hiking trip and that i was invited ,, i told him i would get back to him ",, she finished while sipping her wine and smiling at her bestie cockily,, " The poor guy must be waiting for your call " , Claret laughed and Rita joined in.It was left to fate or luck for Jermaine to hear from Rita again. Seeing as they both were tired ,they went to sleep after having some light dinner while gossiping.
"Rita Monique Anderson did you forget you have a family ,, especially a mother to check up on " Rita's mom scolded her for being so focused on her work and forgetting about her family ,, Rita was frustrated trying to pacify her mother as she reported to the hospital for her morning shift. They spoke for a few minutes before Rita was called on by a nurse to attend to a patient and bid her mom goodbye.
Rosemary had started her chemo and they were weighing her down especially since her hair had started falling off which is a side effect of having chemo. Rita encouraged her that all will be well and she should hang in there,, "Ensure she eats before having her meds and that she's always resting and has someone around to help her ", Lincoln nodded his head as he took note of what the doctor was telling him regarding taking care of his aunt . "Ooh and you could try enrolling her in breast cancer support groups she will learn a lot and realize she isn't alone in this fight" Dr Rita added as she told Lincoln. She had concluded rosemary's chemo session and was moving on to her next patient when she felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen and realized it was her period cramps attacking ,, oh how much she dreaded those pains and all that came with having ones periods. She suddenly remembered that she had'nt carried any pads or painkillers along since she forgot and yet Claret had given her a forewarning .It was at times like this that she remembers that she is human despite being a doctor who relives people's pains. She alerted the nurse that she had an emergency and had to step out so she should delay her remaining patients or refer them to other available doctors but just as she was about to head to her office to grab her belongings to head out , a nurse came running to her from the ER to request her to carry out an urgent surgery on an accident victim who was just brought in by the ambulance and was in a critical condition that needed surgery seeing as their life depended on it.
Rita being the humane doctor she is she decided to do the surgery then retire for the rest of the day .She asked the ER nurse to prep the OR asap as she got ready . In a spur of a moment she was in the OR saving a life ,, the patient had sustained a serious brain injury and developed some complications that caused the surgery to take longer than estimated but in the end all was well and the patient was taken to the high dependency unit where they would observe him for some time. Saying she was tired was an injustice because Rita felt like hell especially after being on her feet for 8 hours during the operation and not to mention the intense pain from her cramps despite taking meds before the surgery ,, her feet felt numb and she was sweating from the fatigue and pain. Its ironical how she sacrificed her wellbeing for her patient's. She dragged herself to her office ,took her bag and headed for the parking to head home when her sight suddenly became blurry and she halted for a moment to regain her stamina and then got into her car ,took some water from the water bottle in her car and drove off. She decided to stop over by a convenience store on her way home to get some pads seeing as she wasn't sure she had some back home while also getting something to eat since she hadn't eaten all day and wasn't planning on cooking.
