Chapter 1 - Dying wasn't so bad...

The 1st thing she noticed was the quiet. Normally she would hear the soft beeping of a heart monitor, the quiet shush of the oxygen as it blew into the mask around her face, and the murmuring of doctors and nurses as they went about their business tending to the sick and dying. She took a deep breath unaided and felt her diaphragm expand. There was no pain. It was too good to be true - she wasn't trusting it. The last thing she remembered was losing consciousness and realizing she was not likely to wake up again. She did not want to open her eyes and break what was sure to be a dream. She could not smell the normal scents of a hospital - no smell of blood, medicines, or strong sterilizing cleansers. Instead, she inhaled fresh air with the scent of salt and algae? Why algae? She needed to open her eyes and face her reality. She opened her eyes but it was pitch black and she almost panicked. Had she now lost her eyesight as well as her ability to move and breathe by herself? No, no, she was already breathing by herself. This had to be something else. She could feel that she was lying on something that was cool and soft and slightly gritty. Her hands that were lying at her sides twitched and then fisted up a handful of the soft ground beneath her. It was sand. Was she on a beach? And did she just move her arms? She started to cry, it was real she wasn't in any pain anymore, she could breathe and move. A little blindness was a small price to pay for not dying.

"Ding...master you are not blind it is simply dark in your vicinity. Would you like me to provide you with some light?" A slightly tenor mechanical male voice queried from within her own mind. She was shocked out of her fit of tears. "What?!" she half yelped.

"Master, would you like me to provide you with some light?" The voice repeated. She abruptly sat up and grabbed her head. "No, no, 1st tell me, who are you? How are you talking in my head? Have I gone crazy?"

"I am your system Master. Once you go through the tutorial and decide on your goals and dreams for your new life. I will help you achieve them. And yes, I am talking in your head. And no, as far as I can tell, you are not crazy. Does that answer your questions master?" The voice calmly replied.

Was this like the cliche from all those light novels she read before her illness had progressed past the point of no return? Had she been transmigrated into a new world with a system? "Why was I given a second chance at life? Why do you want to make my dreams come true?" She asked, half wondering if she's going to be given an impossible quest or was to be entertainment for some strange ROB.

"You are a genuinely good person master but no, that's not the reason why we wanted to make your dreams come true. You were an organ donor, and although your illness did make many of your organs useless, the ones that weren't were very healthy. Your death and sacrifice saved the life of someone very important. That person grew up not only to save the world but the entire universe. Your generosity saved the universe, and it decided to repay you. I am simply here to help." He finished his explanation, and she sat there trying to understand. Should she think it is too good to be true or decide not to look a gift horse in the mouth. Let's pick choice number 2. It's never too late to be cynical, but it's always nice to be optimistic, at least until proven wrong.

"Okay then, please provide me some light and let me see my new world." A pendant on a delicate platinum chain suddenly appeared and hung around her neck. The body of the pendant consisted of a small gold ball that started to glow brightly. Her head was bent down to look at it almost as if she was scared to raise it and see her surroundings under the new illumination. She was wearing a white sundress with blue embroidery on the collar and hem in the form of waves. Her feet were bare. "Thank you," she said softly with her head still bent down. Maybe she was being a coward, but she wasn't quite ready yet.

"The pendant is a gift... It's soul bound to you, so you'll never lose it, and it can never be taken away. It's made from pure gold, which means you will not age, but more importantly for you, you will never get ill again. And don't worry, we've eliminated the negatives so it won't attract the Bonbori." He stated simply.

His words set off a flash of recognition within her. She knew what world she was in. It was the world of One Piece. Her head flew up, and she gasped. A translucent bubble seemed to be holding out the seawater. But she was sitting on the seabed at the bottom of the sea. And swimming lazily outside of her bubble, as far as the light reached were Sea Monsters...no make that Sea Kings. She fainted.
