If they did choose to take that path then there was always more of a risk of injury and death but at least there would be a way for them to grow stronger and aim toward surviving using what was given to them.
If they did end up being successful then if they were grateful enough to their mysterious benefactor then they could be willing to pay them back for everything that had been given to them.
It all depended on how far they would be willing to go to pay everything back and what kinds of things they would be willing or unwilling to do.
If Ash tried approaching them to ask for things when they would not be so willing, then it would not be too good for her in terms of gaining additional benefits, but it could vary from person to person.
If she asked too much of someone, even if they were willing, then it was easy for any goodwill that had been built up to fall apart.
