The panic in his eyes was glaring as he swam furiously toward her. He was coming to save her, she smiled to herself. When she turned to her left, Draven was also swimming toward her with the same intensity.
Draven stretched out his hand for her to reach for him, and so did Lucien. The two men in her life were trying to save her, and only one person's effort meant the world to her.
She reached out for Lucien's hand and grabbed hold of it. He threw her over his shoulder as he swam to the surface as fast as he could. He did not put her down until he got to the bank of the river.
He pushed away the hair that was glued to her face and peered into her eyes. "Are you alright?" his voice was soft and laden with concern.
She sat up and threw her arms around his neck almost immediately. "I was so scared," she sobbed. The only time she had felt that kind of fear was when Lucien got stabbed with the poisoned knife, and she never thought she would ever feel that kind of fear again.
