The day after the dinner, Zai tried to give Xu a week off.
Or rather, she ordered Xu to take a week off after learning from Quynh that Xu hadn't slept since before the Free Officers coup.
It had been a completely innocuous statement made over breakfast that led Commander Zai to inflict a vacation on Captain Xu. Quynh had expressed a desire to get more herbs at the market while inspecting the contents of her bag, and Zai noted the only nearly-empty bottle as being the one labeled "Coffee."
Once Quynh had received her recipes from Shenmi, that labeling had been an inside joke amongst the original three Risers of the Rebellion, since the pills would, for Risers alone, act as a mostly side-effect-free stimulant, at least for a time. The rabbit hole of conversation had led Zai to conclude that it wasn't Quynh going through the whole bottle, given Quynh had fallen asleep before Zai crashed on their couch.
