David felt a surge of sudden panic.

Hurricane must have sensed his panic, because he snorted and moved restlessly. To delay the moment of his response for Gustav, David leaned back in the saddle and stroked the horse's neck.
"Take it easy," laughed Gustav. He lacked the expected seriousness that would accompany such an important proposal. "My intentions are sincere, but this was not a proposal. I want to be with you, I want to share my life with you, but I'm not blind or booty and I know you need time to get used to the changes in your life. I was just letting you know that I think about you very seriously."
"Oh..." David was relieved. He, too, was thinking seriously about Meiden, but barely out of his twenties and high school, it was far too early to tie himself down for life. Although his parents being his age (and his mother was even younger) did just that.
