Francisca's POV
By the time we reached home, the afternoon sun had begun to sink toward the horizon, bathing the countryside in a warm golden glow. Mom pushed open the old wooden gate with a gentle creak before leading us up the familiar stone path.
"There we are," she said with a smile. "Home."
The wooden front door groaned softly as she unlocked it.
Creak...
We're finally back home.
A faint cloud of dust drifted into the air as the door swung inward.
The house had clearly been empty for months because of our training at the temple. Dust coated the windowsills and tables, while thin strands of spiderweb clung to the corners of the ceiling. Yet despite that, the moment I stepped inside, an overwhelming sense of comfort settled over me.
It still smelled like home.
