Chapter 48 - Entrance exam (15)

------------

The Orange Zone (Entrance exam of Paragon) Last hour

------------

"Remember what I told you about the second exam? It could be anything they might ask you to fight something or answer some questions. Whatever they ask, keep your head calm and think about it before acting. You don't really have a second try at this." I explained.

"What are you, my mom? Stop worrying about me so much. It's just an exam," Sylvia replied.

'I wouldn't have worried so much if it was just an exam. If she fails it, which I don't think will happen, I must get her in through a disguise.' I sighed.

After the embarrassing moment of getting carried like a princess by Sylvia, we rested for the last few hours in a man-made cave... Or... Alien-made? I will get to that topic later.

It was the last hour of the first entrance exam. We had gathered enough points long ago, so we didn't need to worry about anything else. I mean... Tom would take care of John. Hunters don't betray their friends or family. They are just... So humane.

Suddenly, a voice rang out throughout the forest, alerting the candidates that the exam was over.

MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE? TO ALL THE STUDENTS... WHO HAVE SURVIVED THROUGH THESE THREE DAYS OF PAIN AND SUFFERING AND THE BATTLE FOR SURVIVAL, GATHERING ENOUGH POINTS IN THE PROCESS BY ELIMINATING THE MUTATED BEASTS AND ORCS AND STEALING EACH OTHER'S POINTS... I CONGRATULATE YOU ON PASSING THE FIRST EXAM! YOU WILL BE TELEPORTED IN THREE MINUTES!

GET READY BECAUSE I PROMISE YOU... IT'S GOING TO BE A FUN RIDE!

I recognised that voice. Oh, I recognised it better than anyone else. That's Holborn, the same person who I am supposed to meet soon... very soon.

"Well then... I think this is a goodbye for now... I will see you soon," I said.

"Not if I see you first," Sylvia replied before we both got teleported to separate places, by a purple light.

These teleportations were done by the Sage Force users in the academy. They are assigned to teleport a batch of students one by one to a designated location.

The Sages (Sage Force users) are mostly seniors of Paragon who have graduated one or two years. The initial growth period of a meta human starts when they reach fifteen years old, they do learn the basics from their parents or maybe even advanced techniques if they are from a Major family, before the age of fifteen. This is a vital act to prevent their deaths in the exam, a way to protect their future generations.

I will have to explain that slowly in the upcoming chapters, since this is a complicated process, it would be hard for me to explain it in one go.

The teleportations process takes around half a minute or so, however mine was done in an instant...

Thud

As soon as I opened my eyes after being teleported, the first person that I saw in front of me was none other than the one who I detested for ten years. It was Prof. Holborn.

"Calm down, I just want to talk. You can scan me if you want, I don't have any weapons on me," Holborn put on a cuff around one of his hands and slided a key towards me. "Meta ability disablers, works wonders on metas, these are advanced ones because a normal one can't really hold me down for long... Hehe, if you know what I am talking about."

The room we were in was like a purple box, it felt like it was made of barriers made by Sages. Holborn and I were the only ones in the room.

"You can take those off... I am sorry I reacted like that ten years ago before hearing you out," I said. This was obviously a lie, I can never forgive someone who destroyed my planet, no matter who it is.

"... You made me do this for nothing?" Holborn asked.

"I never asked you to do anything." I replied.

"Can you get these off of me then?" He asked.

"Wait, those are real?" I asked back.

"Of course it's real! Were you going to kill me if you knew that?" Holborn grumped angrily.

"Why would I kill you? You are a Paradox," I said.

"I know... Even though you don't know who you are... You are still him... No one can change your nature completely." Holborn muttered. "Can I have I have it back now?"

"I think I will hold on to it for now. Tell me what you were about to say." I replied.

"Sigh... Nevermind... I wanted to tell you that I created an alliance... A World Alliance that contains all the major forces in the world," Holborn explained.

"What? Why?! Why would you do that?!" I shouted. "That will prevent so many wars... All those lives that were meant to be lost will break the timeline."

"I have a way to prevent it. I don't want anyone to die... The war I fought in was much bigger than you can imagine..." Holborn explained. "When I close my eyes... All I see is the death of my friends and family... I was there... I watched the whole world burn... The armageddon had spreaded though the whole universe... I couldn't save my world... That's why I want you to save yours... I could do so much more for you but... Those deeds still wouldn't wash off the blood from my hands... I will always be a murderer... I know very well that you won't forgive me... For letting all of them die... Honestly, I wouldn't either..."

I could feel his anger, sorrow and all those emotions raging inside of him, after all we are the same person.

"Your plan... I hope it works. Are you ready to act like a father? You know that Holborn was like a father to Samuel, right?" I asked, shifting the topic to change his mood.

"I am, and I can guarantee you that I will be better than our father, in our last life obviously," Holborn pointed both of his index fingers at me as if he was emoting.

"Blimey, you are becoming exactly like Uncle." I sighed.

(HAPPY NEW YEAR, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I just want to say thank you for supporting me though this novel. Hope that my stories can lighten up your new year spirits! Peace out!)
