Well, in terms of design, it was a little bit different, but the general gist was the same, by filling a small container with water and then heating it up, then limiting the exit points of the steam, one could cause the container to spin very very rapidly, thus creating a somewhat primitive steam engine.
In this case, the steam engine was being used to beat up the eye!
