If the information turned out to be worthless to Di Tou, which was more likely than it was for most, seeing as he was just looking for clues so he wouldn't be guessing in the dark in regards to his 'hidden requirement' to advance, then the Academy had just saved itself quite a number of techniques that they needed to pay Di Tou, and in return had put Di Tou heavily in their debt, needing to deal with Realm Fractures left and right to try to pay off the cost of the information.
Seeing how desperate the Mountain had seemed when dealing with Di Tou and requesting him to deal with Realm Fractures, Di Tou having to scramble around to work seemed like it might just be right in line with the Academy's intentions.
In short, if Di Tou failed, the Academy was gaining a lot, without actually losing anything.
