Chapter 131 - Time moves fast

With the jackpot run and the amazing amount of Federation credits that we made, I took Meemee and Emma off the planet. Ura, Emma, Meemee, and then when we went back to pick up the rest of our new employees and transport them to Burvine, we had the two new captains and Spot with us, making quite the full ship. Zella and Enyo definitely would have gotten along, but we could make it work with Nyava and Ka'Tar sticking to the medical bay for some reason.

Nyava had not been seen in months, and Ka'tar would come out to get food and rations. Emma had been working out almost all the time, learning why she needed to be fit. When we were between planets, I started doing the same while Zella, Nyahdia, Spot, and Ura were working on the bridge.

But Nyahdia was a favorite with bounty operations. I pulled out the Mini gun we picked up from the Jackpot run for her and some more tools. We started to pick up bounties as we made deliveries around the star sector, waiting for our first delivery of ships. I took my time in and out of the game seriously and found myself enjoying the world of Galaxy Online more and more. It was amazing how the universe was just like real life, just in the future.

The Artificial intelligence being feeling identities made the universe just that much more immersive. So, I found myself diving into the game and pushing aside reality for a bit. Amber understood and was enjoying her time in the game as well as a Rish agent. Still, we made sure to meet up once a week in order to continue our relationship. Then came my relationship with Ura, which I was much more active in, although calling it a relationship to me was pushing it. I was still on the fence about 'liking' an intelligence that was not based on reality, feelings, or not.

Now, though, I was hell-bent on making the best potential score possible. There had been more people posting about what is graded, and it was a list that people were growing. The problem was that some people realized that not all people were scored the same way. More and more people who played Galaxy Online and entered the Main universe were also starting to learn one major thing.

The tutorial was easier than the main world.

All the people were saying that the main world was insane and that the Tutorial was easy in comparison. This was because the NPCs were allowed to act with their intelligence. This meant that even if you came back to life, the NPCs would have destroyed everything you left behind in your death.

Everything.

Companies that players were making were encroaching on other people's companies' business or territory, which would be MERCILESSLY destroyed. It was survival of the fittest, and humans were not in first place on the totem pole; the natives were.

How could they not be?

There were more of them, and they were online all the time, whereas humans had to leave their bodies stranded in the open on a bed to log out. It was the handicap of a lifetime, and when they died, no one seemed to be speaking about how people respawned. There was nothing left of their company, and they were poorer for it. The Penalties were huge, and people were getting angry at Gabin Corporation for such a hard universe, which elicited the now-famous announcement.

"Dear Galaxy Online players,

Galaxy Online is an Alternate Universe where Artificial Intelligence reigns supreme and controls a life-like universe with Magic and weapons. This is a universe where you must join the population and create your own identity in the Universe. Think of it as Role-playing or not. That is what this universe is; if you wish for an easier time, go play something Casual that does not have a working universe simulator behind it.

Quit being whiny babies.

Gabin Corporation."

Which went over just as well as you would think, but it had me laughing for ten minutes after reading it. Many of the more casual players threatened to quit. The Gabin Corporation replied, saying that if you played more than two real-life hours of the game, the purchase was final. That made people even angrier, but the law was on Gabin Corporation's side. The Boycott attempts came minutes after, which went about as high as a solid lead balloon would have, and gained no traction.

All of this invited more interest, and people learned that the four times speed than reality became a question of more lifespan for people to live. Galaxy Online sales increased worldwide instead of decreasing, and the game remained exactly as it was: popular. With that, nothing changed, and I decided that I had to get even more of the best score possible.

At this point, I was in a star sector that was lacking fast emergency delivery services and smugglers. This meant that, to my knowledge, we were not encroaching on anyone's territory. With the Black market weapons dealing that we were assisting, we also had a bit of a background where the NPCs would back me up.

In fact, my entire organization except me, were NPCs.

Was that what Gabin Corporation wanted? I was unsure, but nothing stopped you from including them. It was just that Humans could be paid with outside money instead of Credits inside the game. Which means the latter was more scarce than the former.

So, after getting the headquarters squared away, picking up and moving employees to the new planet, paying for tickets, and purchasing new gear. I was ensuring I would be ready for the main Universe, as so many overestimated themselves. Even Amber thought people were underestimating how easy and difficult this game was to play because there was a group beyond combat.

There were the Lifestyle players. People are not here to go around and blast people to bits. It was a forgotten side of the community that I had not paid attention to until I came across a post about a week of in-game time after my Jackpot run on Burvine. I was checking up on posts when I read a post about Mocking the Combat Players.

"The Difficulty of Galaxy Online is too much, is Bullshit."

The post stood out and had many dislikes and likes, so I read the content. I could not help but think more deeply about the game.

"To all those Combat players who think the world is difficult,

You are all morons.

In real life, do you have to go out into the world and kill as many people as possible? Bounty hunt criminals? Join the underworld and fight with the gangs? Become an Arms dealer, fighting with other arms dealers for territory? Join the military and fight in local skirmishes with Pirates? Form raiding parties and dive deep into ships?

No.

Most people in real life are Civilians. One percent of the population, if not less, are in the military and join wars. This is a fact of life; not everyone is suited to war and these lifestyles. In fact, there is a form of play open to many, many more: Lifestyle playing.

I created a Cat-kin Dancer, and my starting missions were all around a club, dealing with people there. Bouncers would protect me, and I got to enjoy my time dancing in different forms. It was difficult at first, but I gained a reputation as I got better over the tutorial. Not as some sex kitten, but as a beautiful dancer that the NPCs enjoyed watching, and I worked my way up to thousands and thousands of credits from tips and favors.

Now, I dance for bigwigs and enjoy partying it up whenever I enter the pod. Literally, my life is going party to party, and I am paid to do so. It is insane how much Federation Credits I get for dancing and choreography that I learned while in college. I find myself getting even better in real life from what I can do in the game, and now, I have hundreds of fans. And if I just so happen to be feeling frisky one night. Well, the game is rated for being over the age of consent.

The point is now that this game is not only fun but also easy. NPCs defended me, and as I exited the tutorial, I got a B score and various bonuses while playing as my Dancer Cat-kin. I even learned to do some self-defense, but it is entirely unnecessary as the NPCs themselves protect me.

I am only one person, but my friend started as a designer in the game. A Gnome Designer, because of the buffs, they are now making a career in the game. Sure, she is making much more modest money, but it feels realistic, and the game rewards her for her hard work. The game even points out flaws in my dancing, and so do the NPCs. We can get coaches who assist us.

Honestly, Stop being morons, this game is not difficult.

It's another world. Therefore, stop treating this as another game like any other.

It's a new life, like Isekai! You are transported to this world with all your memories intact, and you can use them to better yourself! Or become a failure because you just want to be a whore.

That is what the Tutorial is trying to teach you,

This is your life now in this world, and if you pass that test in the tutorial…

This is my input; I hope you all heed my advice."

That post was blowing up on the forums more and more as people both agreed and disagreed with it. But that did not matter to me because I could not help but agree to it completely. This world was difficult, like the real world was difficult, and I don't believe there was anyone being started up as a corporation's son or daughter so Humans had it all at the same difficulty.

So now, I have found myself starting the fourth month of my tutorial. Four and a half months into the game, I was getting closer and closer to completing the contract, which I barely paid attention to. Although I might not be paying much attention to it, the money I was paying out to it hurt. If it were not for the fact that I wanted to increase my score for the tutorial, I would not keep doing it.

But on this day, Ura finally came up to me with a mixed expression. "SleepyWonder, we finally got a timeline for the first batch of ships. It is later than we expected, but my contact pulled through," Ura said with a grin. "The problem is, we don't have enough Captains for them all," Ura said, and I shook my head.

"What a nice problem to have," I replied, and Ura frowned. "When are they coming?" I asked.

"We are getting six Corvettes in two weeks," Ura said bluntly, and I frowned.

"That is early and three more than expected," I said, realizing why she thought this way. "Spot is not exactly captain material either," I said as I looked down at the gym equipment that we purchased for the ship's crew. It was not much, but we just picked up some bars and grave weights that could be tucked away easily. It allowed Emma to start getting more buff, which I found myself doing as well when I was struggling with my crafting.

"What is Enyo's timeline?" Ura asked.

"Enyo thinks the new bounty hunters are a little too green. We still have not found any mineral deposits after we found the sensor kit. But they have taken out enough bounties to pay the Bounty hunter's salary. That being said, we are still losing money on the researchers, although there is some progress because of Needle," I said slowly, and I continued to lift weights. "Nyahdia and I are going with Meemee and Emma to do a bounty hunt that Nyahdia thinks might net us a good profit, but it has increased risk on this next planet. So if we pull this bounty off, we might be able to hire some bodyguards instead of bounty hunters until we are ready for bounty hunters on each ship," I said, thinking aloud, "You know, except the couple that have secrets." I said.

"Half of them will have the extra feature," Ura said, much to my surprise. I looked at her, stunned.

"What?" I asked stupidly, then held up my hand, which pushed her amazing breast in. I smirked a little, and she blushed a little, but I continued, "Then we will not tell them about it for now, except Nyahdia; she is a stellar candidate for being a smuggler," I told Ura, who raised an eyebrow. "She is pissed off with the federation, and she hates how they fucked her over for so long because she did the right thing. If she can make the federation bleed a little, she will have no problem with it. I think we can make her a smuggler captain."

"If you think so, then we can, but that still leaves," Ura began, and then I shook my head.

"Nope, I am not going to think about it yet, Ura," I said bluntly, making her surprised, "I want to talk more business, but I have the next bounty on my mind. We are going to be hitting a target hard at their own base with four people. I need to have my head in the game, and this is a distraction. But we are going to be on Helos 775 soon, correct?" I asked.

"One hour," Ura replied.

"Then all the more reason for me to have my head in the game, Ura," I said, and she nodded, leaving.

I pulled up the Bounty hunting quest and looked it over again.

—------------

Bounty board Quest: Wipe out the Underground manufactory.

Time Sensitive Quest.

Time Remaining: 21 hours, 51 minutes, 21 seconds remaining.

Information from a solid and reliable source has reported that the Jewels Gang on Planet Helos 775 has set up a temporary underground manufactory. They are using old, outdated sewers to manufacture Bactroban. Helos 775, as a Tier 2 planet, has requested that Bounty Hunters clear it out quickly and videotape the destruction of the base.

There are no people they wish to capture, so there will be no bonuses for captured criminals.

All people inside the Manufactory are considered criminals and are free to be killed on sight.

The leader of the Factory is a Uvario woman with an unknown name. You will receive a small bonus if you can identify her.

—-------------------

After reading it over, we had basic blueprints of where they believe the Temporary Manufactory is. Its existence is due to the Jewel's modes of operation. They liked to act like nomads, build up for a few weeks, then tear everything down and run, making them highly mobile and exceedingly difficult to catch.

This mission was going to be to hit them hard and kill them all. It was going to be nice to see if the four of us, with our new teamwork and equipment, could pull this off. I had gotten each teammate now with a new Heads display so we could ping each other, and most of all, Meemee could show us enemies, even through walls. We had gotten her new spy drones to look around inside buildings, which were so small that they were no larger than a fingertip. They had been expensive but worth every penny.

I had gotten a medium defensive armor for Nyahdia and considered it an investment. Emma and Meemee were both in light armor, while I still wore unpowered passive armor. What I was now starting to learn was that my type of armor was much rarer than it was letting on. Or at least, useful unpowered armor was exceedingly rare. I was hoping to find some in stores for Meemee, and we checked three planets, but without going to Core Worlds, it seemed like it was not happening.

So Meemee could now carry and dispatch more drones at once and was at least lightly armored so that she was not as at risk by a stray shot. Meemee got her first dose of Nyava for that bullet wound, and she looked very overwhelmed afterward. She had been in and out in minutes, and when she had been pushed out, Nyava had a very generous response. "Stop bothering me; I am in the middle of a breakthrough!" She lectured for twenty seconds before sealing herself shut again. That was the last we heard from her, and Ka'Tar had been giving us options for us to use.

What I hated was that I was making little progress on my weapons, although my assembly and disassembly skills and welding were reaching new heights. For that reason, I started working on basic weapon-making skills before continuing with weapon manufacturing.

But now was no longer the time to be stuck in thought. We had less than an hour till we were on the ground and had to move. I immediately put on the armor and loaded up for our drop. I did not know what was coming next and was looking forward to more bounty hunting. I felt myself more and more immersed and enjoying this world lately, and I had decided that I would take a break for a day or two soon, but first, I had to get my affairs in order.

"Ten minutes till we land in the spaceport; the rental skimmer will be at our port one minute afterward," Ura came in, and I finished loading myself up and grinned.

"Time to Bounty hunt."
