Volume 7 Chapter 23: Soaring Black Wings

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!!!!

The moment the black wings pierced the clouds, white light erupted from the gaps in the dark clouds. A series of explosive sounds echoed across the sky with crackling ferocity!

The cloud layers trembled and fell silent for a brief moment. Then, as if enraged, massive currents of electricity surged wildly, accompanied by deafening thunderclaps!

A bolt of lightning shot straight down, striking the lead angel!

The angel's wings instantly charred into something resembling blackened ash. Despite its reduced speed, it stubbornly beat its wings to maintain balance— but suddenly, it realized that its wings, which should have started regenerating in an instant, had crumbled into powder!

Confused by the unexpected development, the angel tried to slow its fall by stabbing its sword into the nearby tower. However, the heavy sword, which had felt light as a feather under the blessing's influence, abruptly returned to its original weight!

Chaos erupted among the angelic ranks, with many of them starting to plummet as gravity pulled them down. The reason was simple: their weapons and armor had become unbearably heavy!

"Not just enhanced regeneration akin to Walson's potions... those blessings also provide physical reinforcement," Aurevia murmured as she descended rapidly, the powerful wind battering her face.

Her chest plate and black wings vanished. At the very moment she approached the storm clouds, Aurevia had shed her Fallen Angel winged propulsion armor!

The winged armor, loaded with explosives and milk bottles, charged into the thunderclouds and detonated in a massive explosion!

Because of this, Aurevia, having lost her wings, was now in free fall. Yet she remained fearless, calmly drawing her hand crossbow, Apache, and aiming it at the angels below.

Click.

"In the end, these armors of yours have become your fatal burden," Aurevia smirked. Wind-element magic bolts ignited in her hands. Spinning her body mid-fall, she dove into the angelic horde, pulling the trigger of Apache.

[Infinity], [Power V], [Flame]—the combined enchantments of these explosive arrows unleashed a barrage akin to a machine gun, spraying indiscriminately.

Precision was irrelevant as the storm of projectiles rained down upon the angels immobilized by the crushing weight of their gear.

Unbiased, relentless, the barrage reduced the hundred or so angels to nothing but a grotesque mist of flesh and blood, riddled like a honeycomb.

"Heartgear Call!" Just as she was mere tens of meters from the ground, Aurevia shouted.

Countless points of light streaked down from the clouds, attaching to her body.

The light coalesced and reshaped itself, forming black wings that unfolded as she soared back into the sky!

As long as the master remains alive, no matter how shattered the Elf Weapon becomes, it will never truly break.

Next to the shattered remains of the great tower, the bloody mist and dismembered fragments of what were once angels—those who had been draining mana—rained down, scattering like ash.

"Ah, I see." Flying through the air, Aurevia suddenly remembered something and quickly checked her own condition before exhaling in relief.

It seemed the diluted milk mixed with the rain had a limited dispelling effect. At most, it could weaken or cancel some strengthening states, but it couldn't fully reset her Elvenisation.

The strong northeastern winds carried the milk-laden rain across the city.

She couldn't help but feel a hint of dread.

That impulsive move earlier could have caused real trouble.

After all, this was the capital of the Elven Empire, filled with elves. If the rain had fully reset the states of every Elf Weapon in the city, who knew what kind of chaos that might have unleashed?

"...Aurevia." Grace's voice came through telepathically. "...This is incredible."

"There's so much EXP... Aurevia, Miss Aure." Melon chimed in.

"Heh, back in school, I could only look up to you two. Now I finally feel like I've caught up to you." Aurevia replied.

The propulsion unit on her back accelerated as she deftly dodged an incoming attack from a massive beetle. She lunged at the angel chasing her, slashing its throat with a spring knife. With a flap of her wings, she spun around, hurling the corpse into another angel behind it. On the ground, she casually dropped a few drops of healing potion onto a barely-alive elven soldier.

With the angels' enchantments nullified, the remaining elf troops began their counterattack. Mounted on giant beetles, the elven cavalry soared through the air, forming formations to encircle the now-sluggish angels.

'Good, that's the way. Although I haven't spotted my brother among the soldiers yet, as long as he survived the earlier angel assault, he should be bravely fighting back now... though it's a bit troubling that some mistake me for one of the angels and attack me.'

Aurevia mused, drawing her longbow, Apollo. Charging it with energy, she notched an arrow, reciting an incantation. The white-winged arrow streaked like a comet, piercing through a target with a thunderous roar as Aurevia swiftly sped past.

"...Aurevia's stealing all the glory... Ugh, I can't lose." Grace's grumbling came through telepathically, and Aurevia could vividly imagine her pouting as she mercilessly tore through angels.

"Miss Aure has become remarkably strong, hasn't she?" Melon earnestly complimented.

"Alright, alright, there's still plenty of work for us to do together. You two are in the West District, Second Street, right? I'll be there in no time." Aurevia laughed, her black wings propelling her forward with a long trail of air currents. She maneuvered past the towering imperial palace, catching sight of Grace darting through the air and Melon leaping gracefully in the distance.

Behind her, the sound of collapsing buildings echoed one after another.

"Ah, Aurevia, you're here—wait, what!?" Grace turned her head, preparing to greet her, but her eyes widened in shock, a rare stammer escaping her lips.

"Miss Ayre, this is—!" Melon, dropping the corpse of an angel she had just defeated, also stared wide-eyed at the sight.

"Give me a hand, will you?" Aurevia smiled, spinning mid-air and unleashing a barrage from Apache at the looming figure behind her. "Looks like we have a guest!"

"ROARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Silver wings whipped up a whirlwind, as an enraged silver dragon charged forward, its fury like a tidal wave crashing down!
