Thunder and lightning roared wildly across the battlefield as Sasakibe Chojiro continued to manipulate the power released by Bankai, relentlessly directing it toward Driscoll Berci in wave after wave of lethal strikes toggle.
But after slaughtering his own companions, Driscoll's condition changed drastically.
Not only had his strength surged, even the state of the injuries covering his body visibly improved.
What shocked Chojiro even more was that, after activating the so-called power of his Schrift, Driscoll displayed another completely new power.
A dazzling radiance suddenly erupted.
Spiritual particles surged violently outward like a storm. For a brief instant, Chojiro's control faltered, and every bolt of lightning crashing toward Driscoll was blown away.
Whoosh—!
The thunder dispersed.
When the light finally faded, Driscoll's appearance had changed dramatically.
Behind him extended a pair of wings formed entirely of reishi, and above his head floated a radiant halo. At that moment, Chojiro could clearly feel a strange pulling force emanating from Driscoll's body, as if everything around him was being drawn inward.
The next moment, Driscoll raised his hand casually.
A javelin-shaped sacred annihilation condensed instantly. With a simple swing…
Crack—!
The incoming lightning shattered apart.
"What?!"
"You forced me to open the Quincy: Vollständig, shinigami. You should feel honoured!"
Driscoll showed no intention of hiding anything and directly declared that he had entered his complete form.
In his view, once the Vollständig was activated, Sasakibe's death was already certain.
Originally, he had not intended to release it. After seizing Bankai, the foreign power of a shinigami would interfere with the use of the Vollständig.
But now that Chojiro had reclaimed his Bankai, Driscoll had no choice but to use it.
While speaking, he gripped the javelin-shaped sacred annihilation like a spear and swung it casually.
Boom—!
Lightning collapsed on contact.
A violent spiritual storm burst outward, sweeping across the battlefield.
Chojiro's expression grew heavy.
He summoned thunder once more. Lightning thicker than a pillar descended from the sky and engulfed Driscoll completely.
But in the very next instant—
His complexion changed.
Scoff—!
The thunder scattered apart.
A javelin-shaped holy arrow pierced through the storm and shot straight toward him.
Chojiro immediately used the speed of lightning to evade, barely avoiding the strike, but another one with killing intent followed right behind it.
A second holy arrow slammed into his body.
BOOM—!!
Spiritual particles exploded violently.
The blast hurled Chojiro backward through the air. The dark clouds overhead instantly collapsed. The shock forced him out of the Bankai state entirely, and the release was undone.
"Shinigami… it's over!"
"Let your death be the signal that declares this war!"
Driscoll's body was scorched black. Enduring Chojiro's lightning while forming two sacred annihilations had inflicted serious injuries on him as well.
But in the end, he was still standing.
For thousands of years, the quincy had hidden in darkness, grinding their strength day after day for revenge.
How could these complacent shinigami understand that resolve?
Another Heilig Pfeil formed in his hand.
Without hesitation, he threw it.
The spear tore through the air toward Chojiro.
But just as it was about to strike—
An icicle shot forward and intercepted it.
Clang—! Crack—!
Frost exploded outward and cold air surged across the battlefield.
Driscoll turned his head to look at the intruder.
It was the captain of the Tenth Division, Hitsugaya Toshiro.
"The reinforcement came pretty fast." Driscoll muttered.
Toshiro didn't reply.
Now was not the time for conversation.
After receiving a report from the Twelfth Division's monitoring system, he had rushed here immediately. To prepare for future conflicts, surveillance points had been established throughout Soul Society. The moment unusual spiritual fluctuations were detected; the Tenth Division was notified.
So, Toshiro had sprinted here without delay.
Fortunately, he made it in time.
"Though I'd really like to kill you," Driscoll said unwillingly, "this isn't the time."
If he continued fighting, more captains would arrive. Staying meant certain death.
He had come under orders to declare war, yet the result had turned messy.
His eyes fixed on Toshiro.
"Shinigami… enjoy your last days. In five days, the Soul Society will be annihilated by the Wandenreich."
With that said, before Toshiro could react, Driscoll's body suddenly sank into the shadow beneath him.
Then, he simply vanished.
Toshiro froze for a moment, staring at the empty space.
Around him lay only quincy corpses.
Silence returned to the place.

Soon after in the First Division, an emergency captain's meeting was convened.
All captains and vice-captains gathered.
Among them stood Sasakibe Chojiro, gravely injured.
Originally, he should have been resting in the Fourth Division, but after receiving treatment from Unohana Retsu, he forced himself to attend due to the seriousness of the matter.
"Hey… what happened?" Shiba Kaien asked.
Captain Yamamoto's face was stern.
"Chojiro. Explain everything."
"Yes captain."
Though his voice was weak, Chojiro recounted the entire incident, from his afternoon tea in the suburbs, to the sudden ambush, to discovering the attackers were quincy.
He described the battle in full detail.
Including the fact that the enemy could seize their Bankai.
Hearing all this, Toshiro's expression hardened. He had personally confirmed the truth of Sasakibe's words. When he arrived, Sasakibe had indeed been fighting an unknown enemy, and after the enemy retreated, only corpses remained behind.
