Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The path to Eve's Ville

Adam Hearth with the personnel escaped the ferry rescue boat, it appears that there are only the two of them left on the ferry, "It is only 500 miles from the coast, we can stop at Tresco and ride a barge to get to Eve's ville" the personnel and Adam sail their way to Tresco coast.

"Do you know him?" Adam shifted to a question

"Who?"

"The old man back in the ferry" Adam leaned and gave a stern look, there was a brief silence between Adam and the personnel as if they were both thinking.

"It is not a man," the personnel gave a rough sigh, staring downwards, "It is a memory, a myth that is somehow forgotten, its been ages since the Spy attacked, and even the locals are no longer familiar with it"

"How come you're familiar with it?" Adam became curious, with his eyes fixed upon the personnel's eyes, "How come you know what he is when people forgot about him?"

"My grandmother died because of him, she died after going inside the Asylum" the personnel replied, "The Spy messed up my grandmother's head, my father, who studied medicine, spent his life searching for answers"

"Answers, eh? Why?"

"My father believed that his mother died not because of a simple mental illness, it says that the Spy attacked through your brain" the personnel hold up his two fingers against his head and imitated the sound of a gunshot.

"That means that he creates long-range damage?" Adam muttered, scratching the tip of his eyebrows.

"That 'damage' you're saying can kill you in one strike"

"In what way?" Adam wondered.

"No one knows" the personnel scoffed "D'you think that the management sent you outside the Asylum just to live your life? TO BE FREE?" The personnel stirred from his seat and gently tapped the hull with his palm, "you're sent here to find him, you're a weapon, this is a job for you to make"

Adam gave a sarcastic long whistle, "This is a job, which implies that I'm going back to my ward after I finish my job?"

"I don't know, maybe or maybe not" The personnel grinned like a devil, "But I'll tell you this, young man, this…job takes a lifetime to finish, you can consider yourself lucky if you're killed in this mission because it's worst out here than your white room"

"We'll see about it, mister…"

"DOCTOR, Doctor Vladimir Griffins," said Vladimir.

Adam gave a furtive gasp, admitting his mistake, "Doctor….Griffins" Adam gave a mocking smirk, "It is nice working with you and your organization"

They reached the shore and rode the barge to get to Eve's Ville as planned, they made no conversation on their to Eve's Ville.

Adam's mind was filled with questions, that somehow Vladimir failed or refused to answer, the breeze become chill as they drew closer to Eve's Ville port. This location was considered a remote place since it's located in the center of a forest, and this village wasn't recognized on any kind of map. The path that leads to the village was narrow, it was filled with mud, rock, and trees, fallen trunks.

It is unbelievable that there's a village that's located in a forest but the houses, the gadgets, and the materials are so modern (or far more advance). When Adam and Vladimir arrived, they gazed at the most amazing technology that they haven't seen in all their life, there are concrete houses arranged in a very straight line.

"By the way, doctor Griffins," Adam said with an ominous voice, "About the work.."

"You're still thinking about your work?"

"No, I'm just thinking if I'll have a team to work with in this so-called 'work' you say, people or patients like me, being sent in the same mission, or I might work with doctors that work in the Asylum, D'you know what I mean, huh? Huh?" Adam's voice became so annoying that Vladimir began to scratch his right ear.

"Colleagues, you mean?" Vladimir squinted

"Indeed, I'm thinking if I could do the mission alongside 'professional' or 'trained' individuals who have more experience than me in this field," Adam replied.

"Oh no, you'll work alone,"

"....you're clowning, are you?"

"Nah, the management thought that sending more men can be somehow…..' risky' that's why they sent you instead of our professional men, not to mention that we have a shortage of those" Vladimir pointed to the golden coins that are being stuffed in barrels by some men.

"So I'll work….alone?" Adam stammered.

"Die alone either, it's on you on how you see your situation" Vladimir gave a malicious grin as he looked up upon the sky to avoid the sight of Adam who is furious, "But look on the bright side, if you finish this mission, then you'll return in the Asylum as a Hero, but maybe the management would think of letting you go, FREE ATLAST!"

"Can I back out?"

"No, not really, this is a 'YOU DON'T HAVE A CHOICE' kind of situation, so if you like to see the daylight, then you'd rather bravely accept the mission and stop being a chicken," Vladimir laughed, "But don't worry, some of our men will pay you a visit, whenever you need it the most,"

"When I need it the most? When is that?" Adam and Vlad walked to the alley that leads to a beautiful and clean compound.

"When? hmm….Let me think…AH YES…When the Spy is about to split you in half, then our men will arrive, we can make a good backup," Adam became pale and sweaty as he heard such words, he muttered some words of disbelief why he was there as he continued to walk, "Come now, your house is 034, in Evening street, the mansion was big, your Psychiatrist has a very good taste, there you'll see Mr. Raffle, he'll tell you stuff and he loves to chit-chat, that's why I got the impression that he fit the job," Vladimir said.

"Yeah, I guess I would get a lot of information from him," Adam sighed.

Vladimir handed over a key and a blue keycard, Vladimir bid him farewell, indeed that Adam's departure wasn't well. He hastily searched for his house and he found it easily. The house's quite big that you can call it a mansion. He opened the gate with the key and the door with the keycard. There, before Adam enters the door, the thought of running away becomes prior on his mind, but obviously, he cannot a place with roaming guards that he had a glimpse of when they entered the village, and if he did so, he cannot conquer the terrain in the middle of nowhere which he's unfamiliar.

At last, he came through the door, everything is dark, he searched for a light switch in the sides of the house, and blinded by the darkness, he reached for something to hold onto, then he felt a lampshade with a rough ceramic body, he fished for its string (switch) and pulled it.

The dim light of the lampshade enlightens the room, The house was furnished just like his chamber back at the ferry but everything is white in the mansion, white painted walls, white furniture, and the rest of the house, Adam finds a white sofa with a table against it, "It been a long day," he thought, as he sat and lounged on the sofa, his neck was bent and quite motionless.

"Aren't you a lazy bum, Mr. Hearth?" a voice suddenly poped-out in the darkness that nearly gave Adam a heart attack.

Adam gave a shrill scream of surprise, he thought that the Spy manages to trace him, then leaped from his seat and took the white vase that he thought he could use as a weapon, "OH NO YOU DON'T, YOU BLOODY SPY, SHOW YOURSELF! OR ELSE?"

The voice gave a long laugh" so you've seen him before?" a figure of a man appeared, with a bowler hat and smoking, "You really fit this job"

"Actually mister, I didn't see him, I heard him,"

"Isn't it the same thing?" The man laughed.

The man gets out of the shadow and sat on the sofa, he's about in his mid-'40s judging from the wrinkle and the faint beard, Adam infers that he's Australian judging from his color and accent.

"You must be…Mr. Raffle?" Adam lowered the vase.

"One and only!"

"I would suggest that next time, you can greet me outside instead," Adam slowly sat upon the sofa, panting.

Mr. Raffle gave a loud laughter that causes a tear to come out of his eye, "Pardon me for my improper behavior, I like the dark, it conceals your physical form….but not your spiritual form," Mr. Raffle gave an evil look with a grim shadow upon his eyes, there's a long silence between them, Adam was quite aback, frightened from the look of Raffles's face. "I was just kidding kid!" he exclaimed as he gave a louder laugh and banged his head on the sofa, shaking like he has epilepsy or getting choked by a bear.

At that sight, Adam thought that he was definitely gonna die with these people...…
