our puranas have answer for this ... according to vedas ... and our descriptions from ancestors.. if a female spirit along with her child was burned or killed brutally ... she will come as a spirit .. she completes the revenge and her soul will left in peace.. but some spirits which were unreasonable and had god's grace from their birth .. it was difficult to make them happy. if that spirit made any unreasonable request they will make a special type of ritual for her where she died and takes the sand from that place and placed it in thatched hut and their blood relatives will drop their blood in that sand and carry them to groove.
