Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Is it time for me to know more about the ceremony at last? Not only she's a beautiful and gentle kid she's also reliable, unlike those maids from outside.

Julia saw how excited Voltaire looks when she said something about the ceremony.

Not failing his young master's expectations she decided to talk about it.

"Ok let me tell you about it then. But, after I get a chair because this story is quite long."

After getting a chair she places it on the left side of Voltaire's crib.

Meanwhile, Voltaire'a face also started to get serious, an uncommon trait for a baby, ready to hear about the interesting topic he looks forward to since yesterday.

Julia sat on the chair before she continues to speak, "So the ceremony, most known as 'The Goddess Yna's Blessing' will take place next week.

But what is the goddess blessings?

Well, a thousand years ago, the human population took a massive decline due to the appearance of monsters.

The new living being at the time, unlike normal animals, these monsters can crush everything in their path with their destructive abilities.

They prey on everything that's breathing, and humans are their favorite meal.

Humans, on the other hand, did their best to fight these monsters but they're powerless against this mighty foe.

Weapons like swords, spears, bow and arrow or any kind of human made weapon doesn't have an effect on them. They felt powerless and finally accepted their fate.

It also applies to man named Jericho Du Plessis. The leader of people who decided to fight the monsters.

One night, after his squad got eliminated and eaten by the monsters, he somehow escaped.

He hides inside the abandoned temple residing in the middle of the forests.

It didn't take long before the monsters smell Jericho's blood from his wounds. They started to surround the temple leaving no escape route for Jericho.

Jericho realized there was no escape for him because he was trapped. He then realized that his life was over.

Being a man of pride, he chose to confront the monsters head-on rather than hiding and waiting for them to eat him.

Jericho grabbed his sword and held it tightly, forcing himself to stand up and walk sluggishly towards the door.

But a woman's soft voice interrupted him before he could get to the door.

He already checked the temple when he first arrived, so he is certain that he is the only person present.

Jericho was undoubtedly startled by this voice, but he already faced a serious threat in the form of the monsters. He instantly regained his composure, realizing that this voice was nothing in comparison to that.

He looks around to make sure if there was a person but he found no one. He asks the voice who is she in frustration and the voice replied.

The voice introduced herself as a goddess and explained that she was talking to Jericho in his mind.

This confused Jericho even more but there's more important than her, the monsters.

He told the goddess he had no time for her but the goddess insist that she can be of help to him.

Jericho is in a tough situation, so he enquired about what the goddess can do to assist him, despite the fact that it is suspicious.

The goddess merely said, "I'm a god, so treat me like one and make my name known all over the world.

"In exchange for that, I will give you the powers to fight these monsters..."

"Although it is alluring, what about the next generation?"

The goddess assured him that as long as people know and recognize her name, she can assist even future generations.

Jericho sighed in relief and finally agreed to the terms of the unknown goddess.

He experienced something incredible in his body at that exact moment; his injuries healed and his strength returned to normal. No, he actually feels stronger, even in his senses.

"The strange power you feel now is called mana. You can use it on your sword, and you should see the results of the power I've given you." The goddess explained, as her final last word before disappearing.

Jericho have a lot of questions but the voice he heard before didn't answer as if he's dreaming.

He changed his intentions toward the monsters scattered around the temple. He was still hesitant, but he finally found his resolve and went outside.

As instructed by the goddess, he put mana on his sword. Even though it's all new to him, he did it naturally as if he knew how to use mana since before.

A golden light erupts from the sword and envelops Jericho. This light draws the monsters' attention due to the time of night.

This light also gives Jericho the confidence he needed. He run towards the monsters first and attacks them.

This might seem reckless but that's the confidence he gained from this strange power.

Every swing trembles the ground, every thrust scatters the wind, and every slash sparks a fire from his swords.

The monsters are no slouch either; they use their advantage in number to overpower the man in front of them; however, every time they hurt the man, water will cover his wound and heal it.

The only person still alive at the end of that night is Jericho. He eliminates every monster in that location.

Despite dealing with the monsters all night long, he doesn't feel exhausted.

He immediately left the forest and head to the nearest village.

When he arrived, he wasted no time in telling people his stories. People didn't believe him at first, but after witnessing his power they have no choice but to believe in him and the goddess.

He took the villagers to the temple, where he spoke to the goddess, but the temple is no longer there.

The only thing left in the location where the temple once stood is a statue of a woman without a face. It has the letter "Yna" engraved on it. They assume it's the name of the goddess.

One by one, people began to praise and worship that statue, and they gradually began to develop powers of their own—though they were not as strong as Jericho's.

Jericho discovered many things.

The first one is not all of them were granted the goddess' favor. The villagers decide to establish a hierarchy as a result.

Future commoners were those who did not receive the blessings, while those who did became nobles.

Jericho, the most powerful, and the first to have mana became the leader.

Second, the villagers can't use all the elements like Jericho does. A person has only one element that it can use.

Lastly, the use of mana differed from person to person.

Humans use those powers to protect themselves from monsters as expected, hoping to regain the once peaceful time.

With Jericho as the leader, the humans just keep getting more powerful. From a small village to a kingdom, the tale of Jericho became known along with the goddess' name.

That's how the human population survives and, once again, prospers." Julia ends her story, pinching his young master's amuse face.

"A new tradition forms many years later and that's when the ceremony came," She added,

"Even though the ceremony gives nobles priority, the Kingdom still allows commoners like us to participate."

She then looked at the window and had the face of someone who was daydreaming.

"For us commoners, receiving the blessings is a ticket to change our lives. Despite the fact that I'm giving my entire salary to them, my family in the countryside still faces hardships while I am able to live comfortably here. That's why I want my brother to receive the blessings of the goddess to help our family and, of course, himself..."

...

Voltaire doesn't know how to react to that sentimental statement of Julia so he's in a daze.

"...Oh! You don't need to worry young master! Since you're from a royal family there's no denying the goddess would also bestow her blessings on you when you're old enough." Julia, who misunderstood his dumbfounded face, tried to reassure him.

Voltaire couldn't said that's not the reason his face look like that so he just forget about it. Looking from his bright face, is obvious how the story lighten up his mood.

While the mood is good, someone opened the door and entered the room.

Julia and Voltaire are both familiar with her. Their responses, however, are dissimilar from one another.

Voltaire smiled even wider when he saw the lovely woman, and Julia got to her feet quickly to extend a cordial welcome.

It's Mathilda, the beautiful mother of Voltaire and the queen of the Kingdom.

She accept Julia's greeting with a smile, "I heard you talked about the ceremony from outside a little bit. Are you sure Volt can understand you?"

"...Well, I'm not sure either, madam, but the young master seems to understand whatever I'm saying." Julia replied in a low soft voice.

Mathilda then lifted her son and caressed him gently, "That's true. I also have this feeling that Volt can understand people in his surroundings."

She looked at Voltaire as if she's examining him.

Meanwhile, Voltaire is desperate to hide the fact that he can, indeed, understand them.

So what did he do?

He execute the cutest smile he could ever pull off and acts all clumsy in his mother's embrace.

"Maybe he's just a genius..."

"Right! after all she's your son!" Julia added excitedly.

Despite the loud voice Julia just made, Mathilda didn't react negatively. A proof of how good she acts with her workers.

As Voltaire succeeded in keeping his secrets hidden, he felt jubilant.

Given that he was raised on earth, there is a good chance that he will act in a way that is ordinary by human standards but extraordinary to those in his new world. Some people might branded him as a weirdo.

As for Voltaire, this isn't a problem. After all, his mother gave him an idea. He's a genius. Whatever 'extraordinary' activities he undertook, he would always claim that he was doing them because he was a genius.

Did people suspect guys like Tesla, Einstein, Newton, and Galileo when they come up with those life-changing ideas?

I don't think so. Some people's genius in their day might have been strange, but no one ever suspects them. What if they, too, came from another world?

Since I'm only human, I'm not attempting to be perfect, but going forward, I'm going to be a "genius" like them.

That's how Voltaire reach a conclusion in his head how to hide the fact he's reincarnated and not originally from this world.
