"How embarrassing of me!" the landlady said with a smile that bore a hint of embarrassment.
"No problem, I actually brought some for you." After the debacle with Jian Chenxi at the university, the landlady was arguably the only person in City X who had been kind to her, so Ling Momo had made a special effort to buy lots of local specialties for her while she was abroad.
"Momo, you're really too polite!" The landlady seemed very happy as she followed Ling Momo into her room.
All of Ling Momo's luggage had been brought back by ES staff members and placed in the living room at home. Momo spotted the bag of specialties immediately, walked over, opened it, and took out one or two of each item to give to the landlady.
The landlady was beaming with joy and started a conversation with Ling Momo, "Momo, does your boyfriend know you're back in the country?"
"Boyfriend?" Ling Momo frowned in confusion, looking at the landlady.
