Laines II was originally an emperor who ascended to the throne through less-than-legitimate means. His father, Laines I, the first emperor of the Laines Empire, is still enjoying his old age in the Great Tang Empire.
Laines II secretly struck a deal with the Great Tang Empire at the time, asking them to help "get rid" of his father, allowing him to smoothly ascend the throne and become the second emperor of the Laines Empire.
Of course, Laines II himself didn't know about this, or rather, he wasn't sure whether his father was still alive. This had become a psychological burden that always left him restless.
Now, many issues lay before Laines II: if the Great Tang Empire really had leverage over him, he might not be able to securely hold his position when the time comes.
Another serious issue was that he became emperor just as the Laines Empire was starting its decline. An emperor who rises against the tide often cannot fully control the situation.
