Chapter 4 - Hiking Part 4, A Narrow Escape

Hearing Fredrick shout, Jason was the first one to wake up. It didn't take long for the rest to wake up as well.

"What's the matter? Why are you shouting?" asked Yosef with his sleepy eyes.

"We need to move fast. Right now. Something is about to happen," replied Fredrick with a shaky voice.

"Ahh... is this some kind of prank? What could possibly happen? There's no one here except for us," said Abbey.

"Please, just listen to me. I am not joking..." said Fredrick while trembling in fear.

"Hey, Jason. Why are you quiet? Why don't you tell Fredrick to give it a rest. This joke isn't funny anymore," said Yosef.

"Come on, Jason. At least you believe me, don't you?" said Fredrick.

"Alright then, let's go with what Fred says. It won't hurt to do so," suggested Jason while giving an assuring glace at Fredrick.

"Well, if you say so. I guess we will go along with what Fred has for us. But it better not take long," said Yosef.

"So, Fred. What should we do?" asked Jason.

"We have to get away from here. We don't have any time to waste," said Fred.

Seeing how anxious Fredrick was, they all ran together with him towards the Lake which was far from the mountain slope. They stopped after they reached the deck.

"So Fred, can you tell us now what's going on?" asked Abbey after catching his breath.

"Why did you bring us here at this time?" asked Yosef.

"Look there's a boat," said Fredrick pointing at the wooden boat on the dock.

"You brought us here at this hour for a boat ride? Get yourself together Fred. It's 2 in the morning. We can't even see what's in front of us clearly without the flash lights," said Damian.

At that time, Fredrick didn't pay heed to what they were saying. He quickly went to the boat and was searching for the oars. His act made the rest a bit angry at that moment.

"Found it. Everyone, quickly, come over," said Fredrick suggesting that they all get on the boat.

"I am not riding a boat right now. Hey, Jason. How long are you going to play along with his shenanigans?" said Yosef.

"Come on, It's just a boat ride. Even if it's dark, are you scared? Maybe Fred is braver than you," said Jason provoking Yosef.

"Now I get it. Surely it was your plan all along. Alright, if that's how you want to play it, I will play it," said Yosef as a reply to Jason's sudden provocation.

After that, they all got on the boat. Even though the boat looked small from a distance, it was big enough for the seven of them. After they got on the boat, Fred started rowing with the oars. They were almost at the middle of the lake when Jason told Fredrick to stop.

"Why did we stop now? We are in the middle of the lake. I thought we were going to the opposite side. How long will we be staying here?" asked Yosef. It was obvious that he was flustered at that moment.

"Why? Are you scared?" said Jason,"*cough cough* All jokes aside, just wait for a bit and you will get your answers."

Just as Jason suggested, all of them waited for a bit. Suddenly they noticed a ripple in the water. And it didn't take long for the ripple to get strong enough to shake the boat. Soon after, they heard a huge noise. Abbey pointed the flash light towards the dock. But what they saw was the whole place being buried in mud. No matter where they pointed the lights, everything was buried in mud.

"Hey, What's happening? What's going on? Hey, Jason, do you know something?" asked Yosef while panicking at the sudden change of sight.

Yosef wasn't the only one. Abbey, Damian, Thomas and Ashton, they all were petrified in fear. While Fredrick was still anxious, it seemed Jason was the only one who didn't lose his cool.

"How are you so calm even in this situation, Jason?" asked Ashton, after suppressing his fears for a moment.

"You guys don't have to worry. As long as we stay here, we will be alright," said Jason. 'I hope I am not too late,' thought Jason.

"Hey, answer me. What just happened and how long do we have to stay here?" said Yosef with a bit of anger in his tone.

"Can't you tell? A landslide or to be more specific, a mudslide happened and we barely escaped," replied Jason while his gaze was still focused on the sight.

"Wasn't this supposed to be a prank made by you and Fred?" asked Ashton.

"Well, now it is clear that it wasn't, isn't it?," said Jason.

"Then how did you know this was going to happen? You don't expect us to believe that you somehow predicted all of these, do you?" said Yosef as he got annoyed because Jason wasn't saying anything clearly.

"Right now it doesn't matter how I know about it. Don't you think we should worry about what we should do now?" said Jason with a smirk on his face.

"Aren't you being a bit too much right now? Can't you see Abbey and Damian? Those two are still frozen in fear. And you're telling us what to do now? What else? We have to get to the land first," said Yosef. At this point, Yosef wasn't anxious anymore. Jason's unclear replies made him infuriated.

"We will eventually do that. But wait for a bit," looking at Fredrick, "What do you think we should do Fred?" asked Jason.

"It's not over yet," replied Fredrick as he was trying his best to remain calm.

"I know you guys have a lot of questions on your minds right now, but trust me and Fred for a bit longer. Believe me, you will see something you have never even dreamed before," said Jason while he was still gazing towards the land which was buried in debris and mud.

They waited on the boat for a while. Everyone wanted to know what was going on but as Jason assured them to wait for a bit longer, they all trusted Jason. It didn't take long for Jason's words to come true.

As for what they saw next, left them perplexed.
