The Lands Between, A land that prospered through ages and bore witness to different ages and the change in the lifestyle of its natives. A mythos that continues to be passed on to the next generations tells the tale that transcends the time itself. A tale that begins before the events of shattering, before the dawn of the Age of Erdtree, and even before the creation of the Elden Ring.
Long Ago, the cosmos was nothing but eternal darkness itself called Chaos and there was no sign of light. Until a star was born within the Chaos, it was fate or destiny nobody knows to date. Some say, the Chaos who was alive decided to create a light from within the eternal darkness and then the Stars were born. The stars in turn gave birth to divine deities of the Cosmos, otherwise known as 'The Outer Gods'.
But, the Cosmos was still empty without a place to sustain life so, the Eldest of the Outer Gods, 'The Eternal One', sacrificed himself for the creation of the three Worlds between the Fog. The Worlds were bound together in the form of bands or rings with the innermost ring known as, 'The Lands Within', surrounded by fog on one side. The outermost ring was known as, 'The Lands Beyond', also surrounded by fog on one side. And in the middle stood, 'The Lands Between'.
It is said that The Eternal One still stands in the center of the cosmos, bestowing his energy on the three worlds for the sustaining of life. He blessed each of the three worlds with something. The Lands Within, which was the nearest to him was blessed with Eternality, to never perish under any circumstances, so it is renowned as one of the most lively among the three worlds. The Lands Between was blessed with Freedom and no Outer God will be able to attain a physical form in it. The Lands Beyond was blessed with Protection and was given to the Outer Gods as their home.
Time passed peacefully in the three Worlds, and different species started to inhabit the three worlds under The Eternal One's watch. The Lands Within developed into the most prosperous among the three Worlds, and the lands themselves developed into nations each ruled by their respective royalties. The inhabitants of the Lands within consisted of five different species, numen, humans, demi-humans, darmitan, and Avadior. Humans consisted of people with intellectual and relied heavily on their inventions. Demi-Humans or Beast men were a species used as slaves by Humans and Dwarves. Dwarves were masters of crafts and smithing, who used their skills to build items and cities of divine stature. Elves were called the protectors of forests who excel in the use of Arcane and Sorceries.
The Lands Between also prospered and came to be known as the Land of Divinity as it was untouched by the denizens of The Lands Within but was inhabited by different races and first among them was Ancient Dragons and Giants. As time passed, trolls, a sub-species of Giants emerged. The Lands Beyond which was renowned as the Abode of the Outer Gods or Ancient Gods was a World that consisted of all the good and bad spirits of beings that died in both the Worlds and were deemed fit to live their afterlife under the Outer Gods.
But, this peace did not last long as the Numen race waged wars against the other races in the Lands Within. The Numen was a race of warriors that inhabit the lands within and believed that they were the most ancient and purest of all. The Numen had an advantage in numbers as they could rapidly reproduce among themselves and the offspring shouldn't have to be a child, they could be born as a teenager, ready to battle. The Eternal One who was deep in slumber woke up in anger as he saw visions of the battles fought and the Lands Within was engulfed by the sirens of war and Chaos.
The Eternal One then cursed the Numen race, "Thee who is't did destroy mine own precious lands shalt p'rish in the lighteth of the traveling lamp, and nev'r shall beest able to reproduceth on this landeth. This is mine own et'rnal beshrew upon thy numen tribe."
Soon all the races including the Human race joined forces and claimed the heads of the Numen. But, there remained few who seek the assistance of the twin brother of 'The Eternal One', the one who was destroyed and reborn every night of the full moon with new memories, 'The Transient One'. The Numen begged him to break the curse that was placed upon them by The Eternal One, as they knew that only The Transient One was capable of doing so as he was the twin brother to The Eternal One.
The Transient One did help the Numen Tribe by sending them across the fog in the Lands Between. He also told them a way to partially break the curse, "The Numen must find the Great Crucible Tree and seek its blessing on the seventh night of the full moon."
At the time of the arrival of the Numen race, the Lands Between was inhabited by different beings, factions, and gods who walked upon the lands between in flesh and blood. There was a great tree known as, 'The Great Crucible Tree', where all the lives blended in the Lands Between. The Numen had to live as slaves under the great factions as they were treated as outsiders and home invaders. Only one of the remaining Numen survived as the years passed, 'Marika the Empyrean', was the name given to her and she was the primary member of this race. Marika and her tale of enslavement continued until Hoarah Loux, A chieftain from the Badlands with his tribe attacked the place where she was trapped.
Hoarah Loux unchained Marika from her chains of slavery and as both of their eyes met, a new chapter was written in the history of The Lands Between. Both went separate ways after this incident but with a promise that tied their fates together which would set the course for the future of the Lands Between.
