The war intensified. Planes multiplied in the sky, and the red cloud was filled with drones and warplanes. Then came the giant aircraft, carrying nuclear bombs.
The red cloud addressed the girl Akemi: "Why did you enter my field? Nuclear war will soon break out, and the Earth will perish with it. Look at the giant planes coming, bearing destruction. Even beneath the sea, there are giant submarines carrying nuclear bombs. The next destruction lies there. Girl, you will not survive if you remain trapped within my range."
Akemi cried out: "What should I do?"
The red cloud replied: "If the white clouds pass by, ride upon them."
Akemi said: "You remind me of an incident that happened to my aunt, which made me laugh so much. There were hidden voices that echoed, and they made my aunt mount her pillow as if flying across the room, shouting: 'Oh, white cloud, take me to the city of dreams!' Those sounds released white smoke, as if a white cloud had been born. I remember my aunt's words when she used to say: 'My granddaughter, these voices will resound on the day of adversity.' She is peace-loving, and you are the kind heart she adores."
The red cloud whispered: "And on the blue waters…"
Akemi continued: *"I left my sisters behind on the ground, and I do not know whether they are above or below it. I once dreamed, when I was very little, before I ever came to you, that there were two white clouds with a horse running between them. When I awoke, I realized it was my mother's dream. I long to see the knight of our dreams.
I lost my family, and all that remained for me was to search for those scattered white clouds, until I found myself above the Sea of Japan. The white clouds pulled me along as they shifted and dissipated, until I reached you, Red Cloud. Every cloud I passed called out to me: 'Pretty friend, good luck to you,' as if I were about to face a difficult test.
I believe, Red Cloud, that as long as those voices will visit me, they exist somewhere — above or below the earth. I only wish that my sister's voice would be heard, and that those nuclear bombs hidden in submarines would freeze."*
