Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Hidden Potential

The sun poured into the nursery, casting warm light over the colorful blocks and the scattered toys. Ariya's tiny hands moved carefully, stacking the blocks with surprising precision, while Nolan watched her with wide, fascinated eyes.

"Look! She's building a tower taller than her chair!" he exclaimed, bouncing in excitement.

Lilian smiled softly. "She's… very focused," she murmured, almost in awe.

Ariya blinked rapidly, her mind racing faster than her small body could move. If only I could move faster… if only I could speak…

Then it happened.

The top block wobbled, threatening to fall. Ariya's eyes narrowed. She concentrated, and somehow—without moving her tiny fingers—the block steadied. It didn't topple.

Nolan gasped. "How did she do that?"

Lilian's voice dropped to a whisper. "That… that wasn't just careful balancing. That was—"

Magic? Ariya thought, blinking in surprise. I… did that? I didn't even touch it.

Her mind raced. I can make things respond to me. I can influence them. But… what does that mean?

A thrill ran through her. And then—fear.

If I can do this now, what happens when I grow stronger? she wondered, her tiny fingers clenching the blocks. People might be afraid of me… or worse. Some might want to use me, or even destroy me… before I can defend myself.

Her thoughts turned to the past life she had lived. Betrayal, greed, violence… She had seen firsthand how far humans could go for power and wealth. And now, in this world, she was not only a duchess's daughter—she was someone with power.

Danger follows power, she realized quietly. I can't let anyone know what I'm capable of yet. Not my father… not even strangers. I have to be careful… always careful.

From the doorway, the Duke observed silently, arms crossed, lips barely twitching in a faint, unreadable expression. He noticed her concentration, the way the block had obeyed her subtle will.

She's talented, he thought. But raw talent without guidance… can be dangerous—for herself, and for everyone around her.

Nolan leaned closer, his small face bright with excitement. "She's amazing! My sister is amazing!"

Ariya blinked at him, and a small giggle escaped her. She wanted to smile, to enjoy this moment—but the warning in her mind stayed.

I have to survive in this world. I have to grow strong, but quietly. If someone finds out too soon… they might see me as a threat. Or worse, a tool.

She stared at the blocks, the quill, the book, and the small crystal she had clutched earlier. Her fingers tingled with possibility, but also with caution.

I will learn. I will grow. But I will not make the same mistakes I made in my last life. I will not trust blindly. And I will never let anyone control me.

The seed of determination had been planted. Not just to survive. But to master herself and her power.

And somewhere in the shadows, the Duke silently noted every detail, realizing that this small, fragile baby might one day become the most dangerous—and most extraordinary—person in the entire duchy.
