He heard about the council's decision from Angelina. They sent the verdict through Gawter, and he wasn't immune to her fury. If it weren't for Jaegar's recovery, she would have turned the capital upside down and Gawter and Eradarin were there to calm her.
She told him all of it. The debate, Harwick's words, Oceana's position, and the final inadequate outcome. She didn't soften it or frame it diplomatically. She told him the truth, as she always did, because she respected him enough not to manage his reactions.
Jaegar listened without interrupting.
When she finished, the room was quiet for a moment.
"A wild dog," he said finally, his voice flat.
"That was the phrase used," Angelina confirmed.
Another silence.
Then: "And they let me keep the name. As the reward."
"Yes."
He looked at the ceiling for a long moment.
"Right," he said.
