Chapter 280 - Chapter 280 - The Great Council 02.

[Chapter Size: 2300 Words.]

Third Person POV.

King's Landing.

...

...

Daemon casually waited while the knights prepared themselves. He had said they could take whatever they wanted from the arsenal, while everyone waited somewhat uneasily.

He sat back down on the throne and remained there, keeping his sword in hand, until the moment the doors opened once again.

Seven knights finally entered. The sound of swords and armor could be heard. They all carried swords and shields.

"So, are we ready?" Daemon asked, looking at the High Septon.

There was no fear in Daemon, that was clear to everyone there. He only gave one last glance over the knights before turning his attention back to the septon.

"Yes, Your Majesty. We are ready to begin," he said while Daemon nodded.

"Then begin. My lords and ladies, I ask that you step back a little so no one gets hurt," Daemon said.

The battle would take place right there, in the Great Throne Hall.

"Your Majesty, you seem confident, but wouldn't it be better to have your Kingsguard fight for you? After all, he is your sword," some obvious bootlicker could not help but exclaim.

Daemon could see the aura of greed around that man, but there was nothing there besides a sycophant trying to gain some favor. Daemon even had to suppress his repulsive thoughts about politics, something he openly despised.

"I will fight my own battles." The voice came out cold, and he did not even look back at the noble while keeping his gaze on the seven knights approaching.

Daemon looked at the men by the open door and soon saw a group of soldiers using large shields in two rows. They began moving through the throne room while people wondered what that was about.

All they did was immediately stand in front of all the guests, quickly positioning the shields and protecting all the nobles around them, leaving an open space in the middle.

Daemon would not like to see someone die like that, so he ordered his men to summon a group of more than a hundred soldiers to position shields and simulate an arena.

After that, he looked satisfied and began descending the throne steps once again.

"High Septon, now it is up to you." Those words made the man, who walked with a limp and in extreme pain, move toward the center of the place, standing between Daemon and the knights, while still swallowing nervously.

"As you all know, we will be carrying out a trial by combat here, so that the gods may decide whether these men's claims speak the truth or not regarding His Majesty's magic."

The septon took a deep breath before continuing:

"But, since we came here with a fair challenge before the gods, His Majesty is willing to fight himself, before divine eyes against 7 accusers!" he declared in a poetic tone.

Certainly, this would inspire a few songs: the first act of King Daemon, fighting against his enemies in the Throne Hall, in a trial before the gods.

But Daemon did not care about any of that. He simply kept his eyes on his seven enemies, who seemed somewhat uncomfortable, especially whenever their eyes went directly to the glowing sword.

The septon continued speaking for a little longer. It seemed more like he was advertising the Faith and the new structure of House Targaryen than actually taking the side of the seven knights, which left Daemon somewhat surprised.

That man was a cunning fox.

After everything Daemon had done in the Seven Kingdoms, most people believed the king could easily defeat those seven men. And the High Septon was already betting on him...

Daemon wanted to shut that priest up, but restrained himself. He definitely did not possess a golden aura. It was almost glowing purple with greed. Even though it was not red or black, it still shimmered in blue and purple.

When the septon finished, he began stepping away.

Despite being protected by the men carrying large shields with the symbol of House Targaryen, which the army had brought and painted along the journey, the people still watched everything attentively.

Since they were positioned on tiers and stairways, they could see above the soldiers' heads below.

Daemon remained standing still, his sword glowing with the tip resting on the ground, both hands gripping the hilt as he waited.

He was not wearing armor. He still wore the same black cloak with the symbol of House Targaryen that he had prepared only for speeches and matters of state. He had not even taken a step to change clothes.

He did not need armor for this.

The septon had already said they could begin.

The men looked at one another and nodded discreetly. Then they took their first steps, beginning to spread apart as they advanced toward Daemon, raising their swords and trying to surround him.

Daemon remained still, keeping a calm gaze, as if he had complete control of the situation. There was fear and nervousness within those men, but also an intense desire to kill.

The moment he sensed the man on the right flank was the first to enter his range, he moved with a speed far greater than any man could react to.

Daemon raised Dawnbreaker, positioning it beside himself, and performed a horizontal slash. The man was immediately shocked by it. He tried to raise his shield, but Dawnbreaker moved far faster than he could react.

It did not matter that he wore chainmail beneath his armor. The steel was sliced through easily by that blade.

Then, simply, Daemon decapitated the first man. Such an absurd speed that it created a booming sound throughout the hall.

He cut down the first man quickly and spun around, guided by battle awareness. He already knew the men were rushing toward him.

As he shifted Dawnbreaker to the side with a few more steps, another man charged at him desperately, missing his strike and sliding past, with Daemon now beside him.

However, the instant Dawnbreaker moved through an opening near the man's sword hand and made contact with his arm, Daemon performed an upward spin so fast with his superhuman strength that he managed to sever the man's arm even through the steel gauntlet.

In the very next second, the man began screaming, taking a few steps backward.

Daemon saw two more attacking him. He quickly defended against one, shoving him into the second attacker. The two immediately stumbled into each other and fell forward, while Daemon took a few steps back.

There were three more advancing from the rear. Daemon moved, quickly calculating that he could strike the nearest one and retreat.

He immediately thrust Dawnbreaker forward. The knight raised his shield in front of him, but Dawnbreaker's tip pierced through the shield, through the arm, and immediately impaled the man.

The movement was so fast that Daemon had already pulled the sword back while the man fell backward, screaming in pain.

A cry rose from everyone around as they watched him simply ignore shield and armor, killing an armored man as if it were effortless...

He moved to the side, avoiding a vertical strike from the sixth man, who stumbled forward after hitting nothing, and raised his sword to defend himself from the seventh.

Daemon lifted his leg and simply delivered a kick to the knight's shield. The man flew several meters backward.

Daemon took advantage of the sixth man still trying to regain his footing. He advanced and struck him across the side. His armor was cut by the glowing blade and his stomach was hit.

Blood immediately gushed out while the man also fell to the ground, screaming in pain as several parts of his body began spilling through the opening in the armor that Daemon had made.

At that moment, there was already one dead knight, three incapacitated on the ground screaming, and only three still capable of fighting, though one of them was on the floor.

Exclamations echoed throughout the hall as they saw those men in that state: one without an arm, another dying from the stab wound in his stomach, and the third with both his armor and belly sliced open while his guts began spilling out.

It was a horrifying sight.

The nobles had all kinds of reactions. The women screamed and covered their eyes, while the men swallowed nervously.

This did not look like a judgment of the Seven. It looked more like an execution, where the accused merely had the right to use sword and armor, but the result seemed destined to be the same.

Meanwhile, Daemon remained there, slightly stained with blood, but perfectly unharmed.

His speed and strength were something from another world. He was not even using magic, yet his superhuman strength was painfully obvious.

Daemon moved toward the seventh knight who had been knocked down by the kick, trying to get back up after being thrown several meters away but unable to rise. The knight immediately panicked when he saw Daemon approaching.

Daemon kicked the man's sword aside and simply raised his blade before driving it directly through the knight's heart after stepping onto his shield, making him unable to block the strike.

Then he pulled the common steel sword from the ground and looked at the final two men still near the Iron Throne. With one hand, Daemon performed the same trick he had used against the knight in his trial by combat at Winterfell.

He hurled the sword through the air at a speed impossible to react to in time. The man barely understood what had happened. He only felt the blade piercing through his shield, punching through his armor, and embedding itself into his body while he was thrown backward, pinned by the sword.

Daemon had even tried aiming for the neck, but he could have missed and ended up hitting Sandor behind him, standing beside the throne while watching everything.

He looked toward the last man still standing, who stared in horror after seeing more than six knights fallen and staining the floor with blood, some of them still screaming in pain, begging to be killed. Daemon continued walking over the bodies, heading toward the last one.

The other man, who had lost part of his forearm with blood pouring everywhere, looked at Daemon with horror, hatred, and fear. As Daemon passed by him, he simply executed him, slashing his throat.

Blood sprayed even toward the horrified nobles, as the splatter struck both the shields protecting the crowd and the people behind them.

"Come on... you wanted this. At least die fighting..." Daemon looked at the last man, who tried to step back with every step Daemon took forward.

Hearing that, the knight had no choice. He raised his sword and charged. If he was going to die, then at least he would not die a coward.

Daemon parried the strike and lunged at him, causing the man to lose his balance from the force of Dawnbreaker's impact. Even without being struck directly, he fell to the ground. And before he could recover, Daemon rushed him, piercing through his throat.

Not all of them had died yet, but they were there agonizing. Daemon sighed.

He had even struggled internally over whether to let them die that way, but he needed to continue the meeting. So he walked over to each man still writhing on the ground.

No one else said a word. The hall was completely silent, and all that could be heard was the agony of the men with pierced stomachs. Daemon simply began striking throat after throat, driving his sword in until all that remained was silence reigning over the Throne Hall.

He then looked toward the High Septon.

Daemon had not used any kind of magic. Everything he did was through his own skill and brute strength, wielding a sacred two-handed sword capable of cutting through armor with ease, surpassing even Valyrian steel blades.

It did not matter if someone claimed that was cheating. Even so, everyone had seen him fight seven men alone at the same time.

That was why he had not chosen to fight only one. No one could say those men had not fought with everything they had.

They had all displayed the skill and speed any other knight would fight with. Even so, Daemon had truly demonstrated superhuman speed and strength, to the point that any other man thinking of challenging him would begin to tremble. Fighting that man was an obvious death sentence...

He showed no special tricks like those described or witnessed on the battlefield.

Daemon had simply moved with perfection, taking advantage of every movement even while surrounded by men, using that absurd speed and strength without any of them even managing to touch the man who wore nothing but silk to protect his body from blades.

"The gods have decided," the High Septon finally spoke. "Daemon Targaryen, in the eyes of the gods, is innocent. He won the trial by combat through merit," he declared.

It took a moment, but eventually everyone began applauding, especially his allies.

Even the defeated enemies, now prisoners, could not stop staring at that battle. They were witnessing a living legend before their eyes...

Daemon sheathed Dawnbreaker while returning to sit upon the Iron Throne. Sandor kept his eyes fixed on him, seeming to have conflicting thoughts, while Daemon merely shrugged and continued toward his seat.

"The shields can leave now. Just keep enough guards here to maintain order. And someone, please, clean up all this mess," Daemon said.

There was blood, pieces of stomach, and limbs scattered all across the center of the hall. It was a horrifying sight alongside the bodies of seven dead knights.

"After that little inconvenience, we can finally continue," he declared from the throne.
