Third Person POV.
King's Landing.
...
...
Daemon wandered through the last corridors of the Red Keep until he stepped outside into one of the corners and found the soldiers and knights using the training yard, and Daemon's eyes landed on the two women he had not seen since the first meal of the day.
There were Ygritte and Val training against each other, already quite accustomed and comfortable within the Red Keep. They trained every day.
He could see many eyes upon them. Everyone knew they shared the king's bed as lovers. Some had malicious comments about the king leaving his pregnant wife in the North while sleeping with two wildlings. Something that personally was not impactful to the king and his family even if they heard it, after all, there was much harmony in it.
And as long as those comments were not public, Daemon could do nothing. After all, he could not control what people thought, and Westeros was full of people like that, prejudiced and malicious.
But he only needed an excuse to finally crush some fools and gossiping women. Though they would certainly be very few. Only some seemed unaware of things and ignorant of the danger they were facing. And there would be people like that anywhere, regardless.
He had become a target from the moment he put himself forward to become king, from the moment he revealed his identity, from the moment he entered the game of thrones.
He was already the target of criticism from all sides, and now he was a man sitting upon the Iron Throne. Obviously all eyes would be on him. All conversations, or at least most of them, would be directed toward him or related to him.
Good comments and bad ones would always exist.
Daemon passed by the guards. Even Val and Ygritte stopped training to look at him, and he gave them a nod and a smile.
"Hey, dragon king! How about we train a little?", Tormund's booming voice came from a corner, while he had just knocked down a man from the Stormlands and now looked challengingly at Daemon, showing off his axe like a champion of the free folk.
A fight between them was something quite common, since the man had been challenging him ever since he saw him fighting a giant with his bare hands, on that very night he met him in Mance's camp, years ago.
"Later I'll be available to kick your ass, Tormund...", Daemon merely said as he kept walking.
All the balconies were filled with ladies focused on him, filling the Red Keep and doing everything they could to catch his attention.
Perhaps because Daemon had two lovers from the free folk, some ladies seemed willing to become lovers as well and believed they might have some opportunity. To the point that Ygritte, yesterday, had placed a knife against a lady's throat and threatened her for simply trying to enter Daemon's room while he was without guards, pretending she was in the wrong place and wearing quite revealing clothes.
Daemon ignored his eyes and comments and continued toward where the heart tree of the Red Keep stood, before stopping at the entrance and looking at Sandor with a very serious expression.
"Anyone who approaches is forbidden from entering, alright? No one is to come to the godswood to bother me, no matter the matter or who it may be. You may even use force to stop them. I'm being very serious, Ser Clegane", Daemon said in a serious tone.
Sandor nodded, but remembered something. "I'm not a knight", he said.
Daemon snorted. "You are Ser Sandor from today onward then", Daemon simply replied. "By the way, I can heal your face and restore it to the physical form it should have without those burns."
The man seemed somewhat shaken. "I don't need that", he said in a rough tone a moment later.
"Your choice, but my offer stands. Your brother is already dead, don't burden yourself so much, 'Ser Clegane'", Daemon emphasized the title before advancing into the godswood.
The man remained shaken for some time, but nodded as he called some guards.
Being the only Kingsguard within the Red Keep, he held supreme authority over the guards. Some Blackwood men also approached to stand guard as soon as Sandor explained the situation.
Whatever the king was going to do, it seemed very important.
Which obviously it was, because Daemon was about to meddle with something far deeper than magic. He was going to summon Meridia once again into this world.
It would be much easier now to do what he had done in the crypts of Winterfell, while finally removing Dawnbreaker from his dimensional space, the sword immediately glowing as soon as it emerged, like a small sun.
Daemon looked at the glowing blade. He had not used it since the moment he showed it to everyone in Winterfell.
That sword would only be used against the dead. There was no need to appear like a hero sent by the gods to deal with men.
Daemon had learned a little more about that priestess who tried to kill him and the blade Stannis wielded, in a desperate attempt to recreate the legendary Lightbringer. While she only had oil on the blade to make it catch fire, compared to the sword Daemon held in his hand, that seemed like nothing more than a toy.
Anyone would see that this was far closer to a true Lightbringer than any other blade. Yet the blade was still another entirely. At least he no longer needed to plunge it into the heart of his beloved to activate it. At the same time, Dawnbreaker was vastly superior to the blade used by Azor Ahai in the legends. It was a sword given by a real goddess and wielding dragon souls and even a part of the soul of that three-eyed crow within it.
This was the blade of Meridia's champion.
Daemon was in a place where not even the people at the windows of the Red Keep could see him, hidden among the trees, which was perfect for him.
Daemon turned it downward before driving it into the ground before the heart tree, cutting his hand with a dagger and letting the blood run over the blade, still holding the hilt while the light began to flow through the sword itself.
He no longer needed to perform all that symbolism with runes and magical words. He only needed to choose the ideal place, one that carried remnants of this world's magic, such as a heart tree, and also something that belonged to Meridia along with his blood.
Meridia would appear, just as it had happened in Winterfell. But Daemon would still have a few minutes before she emerged. In the next moment, the very air of the place began to change.
No one outside was aware of what was happening within that place guarded by soldiers, preventing anyone from approaching... No one had any idea of the form appearing before Daemon, breaking the laws of that world and preventing even the gods from trying to stop the arrival of a foreign divinity.
In the next instant, she appeared with a white glow and an ethereal body, while her eyes emanated a golden light.
She was more invisible than she had been in Winterfell, where Daemon could no longer perform that type of ritual, even though he now possessed a greater connection with Oblivion, Aetherium, and the other planes.
"Daemon...", the voice sounded calm while Daemon stared at the goddess before him.
"Lady Meridia", he greeted. "I need something from you." Daemon spoke while she looked at him.
"I imagined as much. But you know there will be a cost. A high cost. Are you willing to spend some dragon souls?"
"Yes", Daemon said.
Unlike Dawnbreaker, into which he had placed his own power and souls within the sword, now the cost would be somewhat high, but he still had souls to spare. He already possessed power over all the Thu'um words known to him, and certainly he could end up without souls for new words if he found more of them, but he could not care less about that right now.
He needed what he could gain by sacrificing the souls.
For someone who hated politics like he did, he sought an ability that only a Daedric Princess could grant him. At least, an ability he could use among mortals.
"What do you desire?", she asked, despite already anticipating it.
"I want the ability to foresee whom I should or should not trust. The ability to see the intentions of the soul...", Daemon said.
With that, he would have an appropriate ability for ruling. After all, that was the key. Daemon initially had not wished to become king, at least not in the way it ended up happening, since at first he intended to leave it to Daenerys, but he realized that would not work very well with him trying to be free while leaving the responsibilities to Dany. He himself would have to act and fix everything.
He suppressed his desire to flee the court as quickly as possible.
The ability he sought was something he was willing to pay this price to possess, for it would give him the power to see whom he could trust and whom he could not. It would lead him to make more assertive political decisions, knowing who he should approach and who he should distance himself from.
For someone who hated lies and manipulation, that was perfect.
Meridia's eyes could see exactly that: which mortals she could trust or not, being able to perceive their auras.
Golden auras for those of great value, loyalty, and importance to the future. People destined to bring prosperity, genuine support, and lasting trust.
Green auras for people who possess admiration, respect, or goodwill, being inclined to support Daemon if properly guided.
Blue auras for neutral, indifferent, or pragmatic people, who could lean to either side depending on the circumstances.
Purple auras for ambitious, opportunistic, or unstable people. Not necessarily enemies, but individuals capable of betraying, manipulating, or changing sides in pursuit of benefits.
Red auras for dangerous, hostile people or those who represented a moderate threat, whether political, military, or personal.
Black auras for those consumed by hatred, a desire for destruction, or a genuine intent to kill Daemon and his family.
There were also other secondary auras, linked more to the emotional state and nature of a person's soul:
White auras → pure, kind people genuinely devoted to good, with souls difficult to corrupt.
Pink auras → love, genuine passion, emotional affection, romantic attachment, and sincere feelings.
Orange auras → carnal desires, lust, intense physical attraction, and sensual impulses.
Gray auras → emotionally empty, cold, or completely pragmatic people.
Brown auras → decadent, corrupt, or morally rotten people.
These auras could mix depending on the person's emotional state, personality, and intentions at the moment. The secondary auras appeared as layers over one of the six primary auras.
Someone could deeply hate him while at the same time feeling desire for him. Another person could be loyal yet emotionally empty, or even genuinely kind while carrying hidden ambitions.
It would be normal, for example, for Daemon to see someone with a primary golden aura covered by light white and pink traces directed toward him.
Daemon always emanated a golden aura to Meridia. That was why she trusted him so much from the moment he saved her temple from that necromancer.
"I understand...", she observed him for a few seconds.
Certainly it was a bold request. An ability from a goddess was not something simple. With this, he could perceive the intentions of mortal souls.
Then she gave a smile. "Very well. But I will demand a statue of myself, a very large one in this city. After all, I can feel the rotten atmosphere this place emanates."
Daemon heard that, and she clearly was not talking about the sewer stench the capital of Westeros exuded.
"Thank you. This would help me greatly in making my next decisions for the kingdom", Daemon said.
Obviously, he needed this ability now that he would finally be dealing with politics, and no longer only with wars.
War was easy for him, but making decisions that would change kingdoms, getting close to people, choosing his political allies, powerful generals, and people to trust as part of his court... well, that was somewhat different.
Despite having his own methods with the court, Daemon never considered himself very good at it. He was too direct and sincere to deal with people he had to do everything possible not to simply strangle before hearing nonsense complaints or ambitions.
And now, if he had the ability to see the intentions of souls, everything would change.
He would know whom to place in Dorne, in Highgarden, who should command certain positions within the kingdom, who would make a good Kingsguard, who should be secretly or even openly eliminated.
He would not have anyone capable of harming him and his family nearby. And if he had to keep someone like that around, he would anticipate any attack.
"Very well. But it will cost five dragon souls", Meridia said.
It was not something that could be negotiated. That truly was the price for Daemon to receive this ability as something innate within his body.
With this, not only would his voice be powerful, but his eyes would also see far more than they normally could, without needing to use some spell or Thu'um for it.
It was an innate ability.
"Give me your hand", she said, already understanding Daemon's intentions very well.
Which for her would also be advantageous with Daemon prospering in this world, since that would carry a cost even for the Daedric Princess. Even so, she was willing to grant this to the demigod before her, whom she had also learned to love.
Not as a lover, but gods also learned to love mortals, especially their heroes/champions.
Even if Daemon was the Dragonborn and an alternate son of an Aedra like Akatosh, a god superior to her, he was still her warrior, far more than he was for the other Daedric Princes. They were certainly jealous because of that.
Daemon placed his hand over hers, in an ethereal touch.
He could feel several souls trapped somewhere within his own soul, useless, as if they were merely stored away to be used one day. Then those same souls began to be drained away, and Daemon did not care, while they advanced directly toward Meridia's hand, before an energy simply surged back into Daemon and dense changes began to happen within his eyes.
They remained like that for five minutes, and no one said anything.
Daemon only felt burning pain and endured the mild agony after seeing souls being ripped from his body, producing enough energy for Meridia to break the laws of that world even further and return that energy to Daemon.
That fit him very well and altered his soul structure, mind, and body somewhat. Basically, she was modifying the three pillars that defined his entire being. It should not be something simple and without cost. That was why the souls of dovah dragons were necessary.
When it ended, Daemon could not help but gasp, while his eyes did not seem to have physically changed. They were still bright purple, but he knew that now he could see far more than before.
Daemon turned his attention to Meridia, who was already fading away.
"Remember, I want a very large statue..." she reminded him, disappearing with a benevolent smile.
Daemon nodded while summoning a Springer to use restoration to heal his hand still injured from the earlier cut, before cleaning Dawnbreaker and storing it away once more.
Daemon stretched himself as he left the area of the heart tree. Now he needed to test his new ability.
When he stepped outside, he could immediately see a world of many different colors over each person, emanating a kind of aura, all directed toward what they thought and their intentions directly regarding him.
Daemon formed a smile upon seeing the many colors. There were even black and red auras, while he found the golden ones. Though these were few, they truly were diamonds amid all the filth.
Daemon displayed a smile while Sandor stared at him without understanding why he was smiling like that. But he would have been disturbed if he knew the changes Daemon had undergone at that moment.
For Daemon, that was exactly the ability he needed to truly be king and have Westeros completely under his control.
