Chapter 240 - Chapter 240 - The End of House Lannister 02.

[Chapter Size: 3100 Words.]

Third Person POV.

King's Landing.

...

...

The bells began to ring still in the middle of the morning, heavy and slow, echoing through every alley, every crooked stairway, every slanted rooftop of King's Landing.

It was not a common toll for celebration or invasion. It was the same call that once echoed through the city on the very day Lord Stark would be summoned.

And the people understood.

Since dawn, soldiers of Daemon's army, responsible for security within King's Landing, patrolled the streets, publicly stating that the Lannisters were being judged in the early hours of the day inside the Red Keep.

The common folk themselves were spreading the rumors, saying they had heard that a public execution would begin in a few hours, another message from the new king to King's Landing.

So the bells meant only one thing, the Lannisters would be publicly executed.

And no one wanted to miss it. Because even those who were cautious of the new king, those who hated his magic and accused him of having killed the High Sparrow last night, also disliked the Lannisters.

Everyone wanted to see both the king speak and the heads of the lions rolling. Merchants abandoned their stalls. Blacksmiths left metal cooling in their forges. Women pulled children by the hands. Beggars dragged themselves to get a good spot. All of this before the bell began to ring.

The city patrol increased, at least 80% of the forces that were already within the city were reinforced. King's Landing had around five to seven thousand men under the king's command to keep the city under control.

Daemon mounted a horse at that moment, while the others, both Sandor Clegane and his Kingsguard, as well as the rest, followed. They marched toward the gate while Daemon led with other nobles, moving alongside the men and wagons carrying the prisoners, who were not only those to be executed, but also the other three Lannisters to pronounce the official sentence of judgment.

He rode with his men through the city, clearing the way through the streets as they headed directly toward the square near the front of the Sept of Baelor, by tradition.

Even from a distance, crowds of curious people gathered, watching the king pass on horseback with his Kingsguard and others.

"Save the king!"

"Daemon, the Just! He feeds the people!"

"He is a sorcerer! A demon!"

"He killed King Robert!"

"He can turn into a white wolf! I saw it myself!"

"Even so, he helped us. I saw him kill those men of the queen who massacred the baby in the brothel!"

His ears quickly caught the people speaking among themselves, beyond those who spoke openly, saying more positive words, with the city guards searching for anyone who was mocking the king.

Daemon could not control the opinion of the people, if even in Skyrim, where magic was free and common, he was labeled both hero and demon, because wherever he went, there were people who thanked him for his deeds, but there would always be those who feared his strength. And in Westeros, things were intensified when he was the only being in this world who, in fact, could use magic that was more than a trick, or even control animals.

When they arrived at the location, Daemon saw the platform that had undergone some maintenance since early morning.

Tall, solid, visible from every angle. Two execution blocks rested upon it.

Daemon turned his attention to his uncle. "Do you miss this place, Lord Stark?" he asked openly, mocking his uncle.

"No, of course not." Lord Stark knew Daemon was mocking him, but he merely replied in a diplomatic tone, he would never have Daemon's respect, and he understood why. His fate had never changed. He would go to the Wall after everything was over.

"But this place is much better than last time, I admit." Daemon said loudly.

He had destroyed a good part of this place when he created an enormous snowstorm, like an uncontrolled hurricane that even the common folk suffered from.

But now, the banner of the black and red dragon waved in the light breeze of that morning. Making it clear that it was not the Stag or the Lion who would control this execution.

There was no golden lion there.

And they continued forward through the even larger crowd of people, as large as during Lord Stark's execution. Even though Daemon himself had frozen this square the last time he had been there.

Daemon dismounted from his horse and followed the path opened by his men, while the sea of eyes settled upon him, and the nobles and his companions came right behind.

Daemon looked at no one, climbed the platform and even found the High Septon looking at him with caution, he should not even be there.

"Your Majesty! I am here to assist you in the execution against the lions!" he said quickly and Daemon mocked him with a look.

"Is your backside all right, High Septon?" Daemon asked offensively without any shame, making the septas beside the man choke while he himself turned pale.

"Forgive me if that offends you, it's just that I put the tip of an arrow right in your ass, I'm concerned about my High Septon of my city, you know?" Daemon did not spare speaking so loudly that the people themselves were caught between laughter and speechlessness, with the king speaking foul words so easily.

"Hahaha." Val burst into laughter at that.

"Your Majesty, I am perfectly fine!" he said almost hysterically. "I am here to conduct the execution, if you permit me, Your Majesty. Who will execute the prisoners?" he asked.

"I will." Daemon gave his answer.

"You?!" The man choked. "But kings..."

"I am not... those kings. I will execute them myself, and I do not need your help, High Septon, you can stand there looking pretty, I will conduct this execution without interference, understood?" That was a threat, and the man nodded, he knew this one was far too dangerous.

"Now..." Daemon turned to the men climbing the platform and the wagons stopped. "Bring the prisoners here." He gave the order and his men began to move.

While the men above the platform began to organize themselves, with Daemon standing at the front and observing the common folk who stared at him with curiosity, the prisoners began to be taken from the wagons and pushed to climb onto the platform.

Tywin, Cersei and Joffrey came first, the latter quite hysterical, receiving punches and blows with the hilts of the guards' weapons against his head to silence him, while he moaned in pain, beginning to cry.

His mother screamed for him, but it was not only the three; Tyrion, Tommen and Lancel were brought right behind.

Daemon waited patiently while all were placed before the crowd. Divided into 2 groups of 3.

It did not take long for tomatoes and other fruits to begin flying.

"Kill the usurper lions!"

"Bastards of the throne!"

"They let us starve!"

"Death to the lions!"

"They only plundered King's Landing twenty years ago!"

"Kill them all!"

The people shouted furiously while the six Lannisters were bombarded with fruit. A stone was also thrown at Lancel, but Daemon stopped it in midair using his own magic, making it strike against an invisible shield with a movement of his fingers.

"Seize the man who threw the stone. I will not allow them to injure the prisoners, not before the sentence and the execution." Daemon gave the order, and his men moved into the crowd after the responsible one.

The people grew cautious at that, but continued throwing fruit. There were no further incidents while the culprit was taken out of the square.

Lancel and Tommen cried. Tyrion watched with a strange, almost ironic humor, yet somehow accepting his fate. Tywin remained in absolute silence. Cersei snarled and cursed here and there. But the worst was Joffrey.

"I was your king, you damned wretches! I should put all of you on spikes! I should have killed all of you!" He shouted as if he were still in power, receiving even more fruit from the crowd, along with curses.

Daemon found it almost amusing. The boy's ego and pride only made his stay upon the execution platform more painful. Ironic that before, he was the one about to give the sentence, watching the common folk throwing things at prisoners, he found it amusing.

'Now that the roles have reversed, it is not so amusing anymore, is it? You bastard.' Daemon mocked while looking at Joffrey.

Daemon then raised his hand asking for silence, and the shouting along with the motions of throwing things at Joffrey gradually ceased.

"We are here today to announce some of my sentences. They were already given a few hours ago, but now I am making them official before the people of King's Landing and the entire realm. Write to your lords and spread to every city of the kingdom what happened and what will happen today. Say that this is the day the lion fell."

The people reacted to those words immediately, celebrating it. They hated the Lannisters as well. Daemon had to wait once more until the crowd calmed down.

"The three to my right had no direct and significant involvement in the crimes of their family. I see no reason to execute them along with the others on this day. Even so, I cannot allow them to remain free. That is why I am sending all three to the Wall and stripping them of all their noble origin!" Daemon declared.

The people applauded, calling him just. Daemon saw the hypocrisy in those words, but said nothing. That was the political game, and the common folk would change their opinion as they were stirred.

Now Daemon turned to the last three. "Joffrey Waters, son of Cersei and Jaime Lannister."

"Do not call me Waters!" He screamed hysterically, interrupting Daemon. "You are the bastard! You are stealing my throne, my crown!"

"Shut up, you little shit!" A man of the free folk struck the boy in the face, and he shrank back and began to cry once again, his eye and face growing worse with the blows. And one thing the free folk had begun to enjoy was beating arrogant southerners.

Daemon remained silent for a few seconds, waiting for him to calm down.

"You are a bastard, and you know it." Daemon spoke in a loud tone. "As for me, I have proof that I was conceived within a legitimate marriage between my mother, Lyanna Stark, and my father, Rhaegar Targaryen, documented, and all the nobles who support me know that this document is real. But that will be dealt with later. Now, Joffrey Waters, for your crimes, not only against nobles or for the usurpation of the throne, but also against the common people, your cruelty is known throughout all seven kingdoms! I call you Joffrey, the cruel bastard who wore a crown, and I sentence you to execution."

The crowd roared immediately.

"Death to the bastard king!"

"Tear off his head!"

"Joffrey, the damned!"

"Joffrey, the cruel!"

"Joffrey, the coward!"

The insults came from all sides. Joffrey looked with hatred, but the tears and despair betrayed his arrogance.

Cersei began to scream beside him, insulting the people, until she started receiving several tomatoes in her face. She was completely red, just like the other two beside her.

Daemon then turned to her. "Now, Cersei Lannister."

"Shut up! Bastard, you demon!" She screamed again, trying to interrupt Daemon, but received a blow from the gauntlet of the man beyond the Wall, making her head sway in confusion.

Daemon waited a moment and continued. "You not only betrayed a former king by fornicating with your own brother, but also placed a bastard as prince and crowned him. You are accused of numerous acts of abuse, of being a resentful and cruel woman, to the point of hiding wildfire beneath this city, intending to destroy not only my men, but also the people of King's Landing."

The crowd reacted with horror and renewed fury. Daemon turned back to them.

"Yes, she planned to burn part of the city as soon as my men approached the Red Keep. But I arrived before she could carry out her threat. She ended up showing me every cache of wildfire, and I removed them. They are no longer a danger to the city."

The murmurs spread quickly.

"In any case, she will share the same fate as her son. Execution." Daemon turned to his men after those words.

"Take them to the blocks. We will execute them immediately. Also move Tywin so that he may witness their deaths."

The guards seized Joffrey, who cried desperately, and Cersei, who screamed in fury, dragging them to the two execution blocks.

The order for Tywin to watch was cruel. Daemon wanted Tywin to see his lineage destroyed before him without being able to do anything.

He drew Dark Sister and rested the tip of the blade on the ground for a moment, observing the restless crowd, which shouted louder and louder. The silence of the king watching them was enough for them to begin calming down slowly.

"I, Daemon Targaryen, rightful heir to the Iron Throne and Protector of the Seven Kingdoms, sentence Joffrey Waters, son of Cersei and Jaime Lannister, to death."

In the next moment, he raised Dark Sister. Joffrey was crying and begging now, even pleading to be sent to the Wall, but that did not stop Daemon from bringing the sword down and delivering a clean strike, so swift that the boy likely did not even feel pain.

Cersei began to scream and struggle as she was forced onto the block. She saw her firstborn son's head fall in that manner, and despair overtook her face. But Daemon's shadow was already over her.

"I, Daemon Targaryen, rightful heir to the Iron Throne and Protector of the Seven Kingdoms, sentence Cersei Lannister to death."

She only stared at him with more hatred than she had ever shown, before seeing him raise the sword and deliver the blow with the same precision. Her head rolled across the wood of the platform.

Daemon then turned his attention to Tywin Lannister, who watched everything with cold eyes.

"Perhaps this does not shake you as much as the death your eldest son suffered yesterday. But I wanted you to see these two. Your three remaining relatives will go to the Wall. Joffrey is dead. Your daughter is dead. The rest of the family has been destroyed. Kevan's wife and his daughter will go to the Silent Sisters. They will never again bear your name. You are the last Lannister, Tywin, my congratulations." Daemon said with a certain sarcasm.

He stepped closer to Tywin.

"This is the result of your actions, Lord Tywin. One cannot change the past. On the contrary, if you could, the first thing you would have done was try to kill me in the cradle, would you not?" Daemon seemed to take amusement in those words.

Tywin did not answer.

Daemon went to him and seized him from behind the head, pushing his face forward, displaying him to the crowd.

"Do you see this man?" he exclaimed, his voice echoing throughout the square.

"Twenty years ago, he appeared at the gates of King's Landing claiming loyalty to Aerys Targaryen. As soon as the gates were opened, he ordered the city to be sacked and betrayed the Mad King. He brought death at a time that perhaps many of you do not even remember. Some of you did not even live here in King's Landing. But some saw their relatives murdered, plundered and raped by soldiers under this man's orders."

The crowd began to murmur intensely.

"He conquered no war. He arrived at the end only to gain the favor of the new king, massacring the weak and already defeated side. A cowardly opportunist."

Daemon tightened his grip on Tywin's garments even more.

"And among the people he killed, just as some of you lost relatives, so did I. I lost a one-year-old brother, brutally smashed against a wall by one of Tywin's dogs, the Mountain. He raped Elia Martell after killing her son in front of her, and murdered her as well afterward."

"Another dog of this cursed lion was Amory Lorch, the man who stabbed my three-year-old sister fifty times. I can say, with every word, that I avenged each of them against those two damned dogs of this man. I never truly knew my siblings, after all I was still in my mother's womb at the time, but I always knew I had the duty to avenge them from the moment I learned we shared the same blood. That is why I came to Westeros: to reclaim what belongs to my family and to avenge those who were unjustly killed."

Daemon noticed that Tommen and Lancel would not stop crying in a corner, looking down, unable to face the deaths of Joffrey and Cersei. Tyrion, however, watched in an almost impressed manner as Daemon pronounced the sentence against his father.

"I could list countless crimes of this man. I could say he was a cowardly opportunist who never won the throne by true conquest, only arriving at the end of a war to crush the weaker side. I could speak of how he tried to rule through bastards he defended as legitimate. I could mention the conspiracy of the Red Wedding, a repugnant act for which all the families involved have already been or will be destroyed."

The crowd remained silent.

"But the crime I exalt today is against my kin, against my blood, my family, against innocent babies. And that is why I, Daemon Targaryen, rightful heir to the Iron Throne and Protector of the Seven Kingdoms, condemn the last Lannister to death. I strip the name Lannister from the Seven Kingdoms. All his titles, lands and gold shall be taken. His name shall be cursed in the books of history."

With those words, Daemon moved without warning. He did not place Tywin on the block. He simply stepped behind him and, with a single swift motion of Dark Sister, cut off his head.

The crowd stood in shock.

Many, on that day, would say that Tywin Lannister died with the same cold gaze and raised chin as always. Others would swear they saw tears in the old lion's eyes in the instant before the blade passed through his neck — that, for the first time, the relentless lion looked upon the world with despair.
