"Your Majesty!" the council gasped in shock.
"Maids!" Irvin barked, and within moments servants hurried in, sweeping up shards of glass. The King, his fury palpable, rose without another word and stormed out of the hall.
The chamber erupted in murmurs, voices overlapping in a rising tide of unease. Nicolas, who had remained silent all this time, exhaled slowly and rose to his feet. His presence alone was enough to command attention.
"That is enough," his voice cut through the clamor, deep and unwavering. Instantly the room stilled. "The meeting for today is adjourned. If there is anything truly concerning beyond the recent attacks, you may bring it to me directly in my study."
