Belle returned home boarding the police car, since the officers wanted to see Neon as soon as they could. Jackie came along with her as well, her presence quiet but imposing.
"Belle," Neon called out the moment he saw his sister walk through the front door. But his small face paled, and he took a sharp step back when three uniform-clad police officers followed her inside. Instead of running to his sister's arms, Neon shrank back, hiding his small frame behind Jojie.
"Don't worry, Neon. Eli knows these officers. He said that they will help us."
"Good afternoon, Auntie Jo," Jackie greeted Eli's mom, her expression softening into a faint smile. Then, she glanced curiously at Belle. "I didn't realize I was talking to Doc Eli's girlfriend earlier at the station."
