Chapter 2 - Fate Aurigae [2]

Something was strange.

Something was very strange…

I looked around me.

Three walls and a cell door.

It was probably a prison but it looked different.

I glanced outside and saw people wearing strange uniforms walking around.

Are they police?

Don't tell me they caught me at the museum!

As I moved my body, something grazed my leg.

I looked at the ground and saw a device that looked like a phone.

Jarvis!

I immediately took it and put it in my pocket.

'Eh?"

When I put Jarvis in my pocket, my eyes fell on my hands.

Aren't they small?

I was sure I had slightly larger hands.

"!"

I touched my whole body and-

'What the hell?!'

It was not my body.

My body was sturdy and I had biceps and a six-pack!

Soon, my breathing became ragged.

I started to remember what had happened in the museum.

I got injured by that sword and I ran away…

Then I was-

Goosebumps ran through my whole body.

Was I sucked into that book?

I looked around me again but there was no book, no sword and neither the gemstones I had.

'Then why the heck, I have Jarvis?'

I took Jarvis and tried to find a solution at my problem but it didn't turn on.

As I pressed several buttons, I froze, seeing the screen of Jarvis reflecting my face.

"!"

Brown hair, brown eyes with a younger face.

It wasn't me.

I was 22-year-old with black hair and blue eyes.

What's happening?!

Was I reincarnated in another world like those novels?

But I didn't die on Earth!

I froze and looked blankly at the ground.

My thoughts were in disarray.

-Thud!

I looked up and saw a middle-aged man looking at me.

I immediately put on my guard and grabbed Jarvis in my pocket.

The man had a weird expression as he scanned my face.

I stared back at him without showing any hints about myself.

"Fate!"

"!"

Healing the familiar voice, my body tensed up.

What the hell?

Why was my body reacting like that?

And a familiar voice?

A black-haired beauty was there.

A pang of deep sadness and guilt crept inside me as I looked at her.

I knew her.

I shouldn't know her, but I definitely knew her.

The next few minutes, another strange thing happened.

A strange light came out of the man's and the woman's hands.

Mana.

It was the word that came instantly into my mind.

Mana?

So magic?

I should have been shocked but I wasn't.

It was like I was used to seeing such things.

A few minutes later, another came and opened the cell.

I went out and saw the woman approaching me.

I felt awkward about how to react.

-Slap!

Huh?

My face tilted sideaway.

Did she slap me?

Why?

I felt anger bubbling inside me but-

"!"

The next instant, the woman hugged me tightly.

"D-Don't do anything like that again, Fate!"

"!"

What?

I felt a painful headache assaulting my head.

Accompanying the headache followed memories.

Memories that didn't belong to me.

Memories of Fate Aurigae.

Slowly his memories merged with my own memories.

-Drip -Drip

Tears streamed down my face as I recalled all the happiness and hardships I had gone through in this life.

"I-I'm sorry…"

I hugged Grace back, who was my sister-in-law, and cried.

My tears fell on her head since she was shorter than me.

That woman.

She was the wife of my brother.

She was like a true elder sister, even a second mother to me.

She took care of me along my brother, as my parents were always busy.

But five years ago, my brother Earth died because of me…

My parents divorced right after.

Grace didn't even resent me that day, rather she was relieved I was alive and well. She even fought her parents, who put the blame on me. She tried to take me to her parent's home but they didn't want me. At that time, Grace didn't even hesitate to take me to her house.

Of course, before that, my parents fought to take the guard of me but I refused both of them.

I mean, what was the point?

They were again going to be busy with their work.

And I didn't want to be alone.

I was scared.

That's why I can't be grateful enough to Grace.

But here I am causing problems again for her…

She paid 5000 AXP for me without hesitation.

1 AXP is the equivalent of 1 Euro, so also around 1 dollar.

It was expensive, but it was the cost of my robbery of that artifact.

Fuck!

How can I be so stupid?

I shouldn't have had a problem robbing a mere artifact from a random shop!

Ah.

'My memories are merged, so I'm thinking wrongly.'

Whatever.

I just have to repay Grace by robbing them back.

"It's okay."

Grace patted my back.

"Let's go home now. I will make your favorite dish."

"Steak and fries?"

"Yes!"

Grace nodded with a giggle.

Curiously, be it me or Fate, who was now me as well, liked steak and fries a lot.

As I looked at Grace, I felt so blessed.

How can I be so lucky to have a sister like that?

Though she didn't ask me about the reason for my robbery.

Was she waiting for me to be ready to say it?

We went out of the station and a new world appeared in my sight.

It was a futuristic world.

Cars and bikes were floating above the ground.

They were working via mana after all.

Huge buildings stretched out to the sky.

In all the sky-scrapers were giant screens displaying cartoons, news, songs or other things.

I was used to seeing that but I was somewhat rediscovering the beautiful Azur capital city of the Cerulean Kingdom.

Indeed, most of the buildings were in blue colors.

People wearing dresses, suits and plenty of other clothes were walking around.

It was a mix of a medieval and futuristic country.

We walked in the parking car of the Public Security Department or the equivalent of the police on Earth.

Soon we reached a beautiful red car. It was Grace's car.

I opened the door and took the seat next to the driver.

Grace sat and handed me something that looked like a transparent phone.

"Your ID pad, sigh…you are so careless, Fate. The academy will ask 2000 AXP for a new one."

"Ah, my bad."

I scratched my head.

"..."

Grace looked at me surprised.

"What's up?"

I asked.

Grace smiled at me.

"How many times have I asked you to speak to me casually but you always kept that awkward and formal speech with me. But now you seem more at ease with me."

"Well…"

I couldn't say to her that I had memories of another guy from another world.

"I'm happy, Fate."

"Eh?"

"Be lively and casual with me! I'm your big sister after all! Ask me anything!"

Grace puffed up her chest with a smile.

"As you wish, so let's start. I want the latest phone from SteelTech."

"It's too much!"

Grace pinched my cheek as I laughed.

Then she smiled and stroked my head.

Yeah, I was happy in this world.
