We were trying to take our breath, while running as fast as we could.
After we passed those stupid kidnappers with a trick that anyone who played a stealth game for once at least could see through it, oh right, I think no one developed stealth games until now in this world.
Well more importantly, after avoiding being caught by them, we ran as fast as we could and this is the first time that I felt it was worth all those training that I did, with the hell that women calls 'Shopping'.
We continued running with all of our might like our lives depends on it, because apparently it does. Even though I am worried about Kageyama, but there's nothing I can do and I have to trust him, I am sure he will be alright.
While running Rina said exhausted, "The police station...*huff*...is about two blocks from here...*huff*... We can do it...*huff*... just a little bit more." She tried to encourage us, and after she said that the kids and caretakers eyes shined with hope.
Right after taking a turn around some building and going to the main road, we saw someone that I couldn't distinguish his looks because the road was dark and the only thing that made us see was a lamp that was flickering nonstop.
"Hey mister...*pant*...can you help us? *pant*...Some people are running after us...*pant*...and we don't know why." One of the caretakers her name was Rika by the way, said while trying to take breaths between her words.
The road didn't have anyone other than us and the man. It was really silent, and the silence continued for about 10 seconds that felt like minutes to us. No noise at all, the only things we could hear was our heavy breaths, lamp's light flickering and droplets of water coming from some air conditioner.
The man came out of the shadow, walking towards us slowly. Every step he took towards us felt like forever, it was slow but steady, simple but we could hear it perfectly because of the silence like it was right there beside us, even though there's more than 20 meters between us.
Now after he showed himself to us, I could distinguish his appearance. He was not as muscular as the people who were with the old man, but he was muscular nonetheless. He had long brown hair going down a bit under his shoulders, with bright yellow eyes that looked like it's observing everyone of us clearly.
Having two scars, the first scar is going horizontal on his forehead, while the second scar begins at the left side of his forehead and going all the way vertically down to his left cheek. His eyes were golden yellow in color and looked sharp, having a little beard that adds up to his handsomeness. Even if he looked to be in his 40s.
He was wearing a black coat that he is not even putting his hands in it's sleeves looking like some general or something, with a black vest underneath that have some weird symbols. Fingerless black gloves and black combat boots, black pants with some weird belt. And finally a tattoo on both of his arms that I couldn't see clearly because of the light and because it apparently goes all the way to his shoulders. Even though I don't know how I could see all of those features, I am still proud of myself.
The more steps he took towards us, the more I felt Rina's grip tighten on my shoulder. She even thought of taking us and run away to the police station. But apparently the man realized and said with a voice high enough for all of us to hear, "Don't even try Rina, you are already surrounded. So come with us quietly or you will leave me no choice but using the hard way."
Rina were really scared and nervous, she tried to think of anyway to escape from them.
I grabbed her hands to have her attention and said with a low voice so only she could hear me. "If we're already surrounded, then I don't think we have a choice Rina. It's not like we can run from them, so the best option is to go with them."
Even if I don't want to admit it, but this is the truth. Even if they are clearly the bad guys here, it's not like we have an option, worst comes, we will all die or be some mad scientist's lap rats. 'Dammit, just thinking about this makes me shiver.'
Apparently Rina was conflicted to go with them. Well that's pretty natural for someone who have to protect kids that isn't even 12 years old yet and it's hard to take my advice, because in the end I am but a 6 years old kid.
'I now really want to know how was Conan able to let people and detectives hear him out? Well I think I can't do anything but go with the flow.' I thought this useless things again while sighing a bit.
After Rina considered the limited options, she sighed then looked at the man and said, "Alright, we will come with you, but promise me nothing will happen to the kids."
The other caretakers were surprised and the first one to come back to her senses was Saya. Then she looked at Rina and shouted, "What are you saying Rina!? You want us to go with those men, that we don't even know their-"
But before she could continue, Rina interrupted her. "We don't have any other choice Saya! If we don't go with them we will die either way!!" Rina shouted back at her while she was about to cry. Of course taking this kind of choice is something hard for her, because if something happened to us she will always blame herself until she dies.
While the two were retorting back and forth, I glimpsed with the corner of my eyes a caretaker who was on the verge of breakdown while muttering with a low voice, "I don't want to die...I don't want to die..."
Then she suddenly yelled saying, "I DON'T WANT TO DIE YET!! I HAVE TO LIVE!!!" She pushed one of the kids aside and tried to run past the man in front of us.
When I thought the man will stop her, I was surprised again because he didn't even move from his position and let her go. But I saw on his eyes a little bit of pity, however, he went back to his emotionless gaze. Then I realized, we are surrounded but we can't see anyone, so it only means...
"STOP!! DON'T GO THAT WA-"
*BANG*
A sniper shoot rang in my eardrums, and the caretaker that tried to run away fell on her right side while blood started to pour out of the right side of her head to the ground.
I didn't even move a muscle- no, no one moved a muscle or made a sound, it was a complete silence, the only clear sound was the crickets squeak.
"KYAAA!!"
After we came back to our senses, Saya suddenly screamed from the the bloody sight. Rina tried to not make us look at the scene, but after what? We already saw everything and apparently it was engraved in everyone's mind that day.
I didn't know what to do, it was a terrible experience to be honest. It was the first time I ever saw a dead body in front of my eyes, and from what my guts say, this will not be the last one.
"Now, can you come with me calmly?" The man said while showing a little bit of killing intent to scare the shit out of us. And guess what? It worked perfectly.
So we began walking behind him to the same direction of the orphanage. No one made a sound, we just continued walking.
The minutes felt like hours to us, we just wanted all of this to end quickly.
'Now thinking about, wasn't it better if we could have stall him until the police came? They of course would have heard the sniper gunshot, or at least someone heard it and called for them.'
While thinking about the possibility, I took a look at the man. 'Who am I kidding? even if they heard it, this organization is not something the police could take care of, and this man right here is too dangerous. I don't know why though, but my guts never failed me after my reincarnation.'
While trying to come with some information about this weird organization from the show, suddenly the man looked at our direction, at me precisely. That look alone made me flinch in my place. I couldn't bear the eye contact, so I just looked at the ground like some scaredy cat. 'Dammit! How the fuck will I survive in this fucking world if just someone that didn't even appear in the show can make me cower in fear like this.'
I was really frustrated for how powerless I am. Feeling like I can't do anything at all but watch. This is really frustrating!
"Hey you kid, come here."
Suddenly I heard the man's voice, it wasn't too high but everyone could hear him. I raised my head to look at who he was talking to.
However it was none other than me. He was looking at me directly then clarified who he is taking to by saying, "You, the kid with black hair and blue eyes that was just staring at me."
So he really meant me in the end huh? Well it's not like I have a choice, right?
So I started to make my way to him, Rina squeezed my shoulder harder than usual, but it only took me to pat her hand a little, it seems this calmed her down, even though she was still nervous.
She looked at me and said, "Noah you don't have to g-" but before she could continue talking, I turned my head a bit to look at her. However when our eyes met, she was startled that she couldn't even continue what she was about to say.
In that time I didn't know what really happened, what made her this startled that she couldn't utter a word and to lose focus like that.
But now I understand what happened.
My gaze was emotionless.
Like you can't even know what am I even thinking, it was just not ordinary. Maybe not like those emotionless characters we see in animes.
You can say that, this is one of the few talents I had in my previous life.
Even though I didn't want to show any person close to me that kind of 'Talent', not when I am that young at least.
But I unconsciously did it, that Rina's hold on my shoulder lightened. Well it's not that normal to see this kind of look...
...Especially on the face of a 6 years old kid.
So I left Rina's grasp and continued walking to this man with the same look on my eyes, while putting my hands in my pocket.
He raised an eyebrow when he saw my eyes then smiled slightly.
When I was already beside him, I asked, "So, what do you want mister?" Without even looking at each other, we just began talking.
After seconds of silence, he said, "Well, I just wanted to know the name of the kid that could convince that woman of taking this kind of a huge decision, even if he's not older than 9 years old." When he stopped talking I thought cautiously, 'So he by some way heard what I said to Rina in that time.'
But I know there was something else he wanted to say. "And after seeing that emotionless look on your eyes I became more curious."
We were a bit far from the group, so they couldn't hear our conversation. 'Well that was a little bit expected. It's not like you everyday see a kid that his age isn't more than 9 years can say and do like what I do. Well, it's because I am not a kid in the first place.'
Even though something like this was expected, but what intrigued me was- "And why are you asking? Don't you know everything about us in the first place?"
He looked at me and smiled slightly again, then said, "Well, you can just say that I wanted to hear you say it. Think of it like a little introduction."
A little introduction huh? Well it's not like I will lose anything in the first place.
"Noah, my name is Noah." After saying my name, I looked at him and asked. "And you, what's your name mister?" He continued to look at the road while still smiling, then said-
"Akira, Akira Hasegawa."
