As they pulled up at the prison, two guards came and grabbed Adam by the arms whilst placing handcuffs on him.
"Is this really necessary?" Adam asked
"Standard prison protocol, what did you commit?"
"Apparently identity fraud"
The guards led him to a small prison cell that had four beds, two of them occupied while a third was empty but not made.
"Inmates, you have a new friend today"
One of the inmates got up and introduced himself, although Adam could only understand a few things because the man's voice was so high-pitched. He learned that the man's name was Yuu and that the man's quirk was to control the frequency of his voice, a powerful power however it left the man with a very high-pitched voice. He once accidentally set his voice to a frequency that was too high and broke a lot of windows.
"The man in the bottom bunk over there is Lev, he is in here for tax evasion, his quirk is that he can produce fruit juice from rocks."
"So what about you?"
"Adam's my name and I have no quirk, I apparently have no identity anywhere in the world so I am in for Identity fraud"
"Doesn't seem so bad, I am guessing you are going to be here for six years at the very least so might as well get comfortable"
"Damn... The one day I get out of the country I'm launched straight into jail"
They both chuckled at the statement as they both sat on their beds and relaxed. This was no incredibly advanced and high-security prison, for the most part, this prison was just for white-collar crimes.
"Do you wanna head out to the Rec Yard? It is basically just the yard but you can do anything you want, I prefer to be in the library where there aren't that many people grunting and working out"
"Sure what kind of books are in the library?"
"I don't read any of the books, usually I just play with my Rubik's cube"
"I guess I'll go there with you, I hope they have some books on philosophy, those books always make me question my existence"
"Sure why not"
They got up from their beds and walked out of the cell door, it was really just some bars, and they walked through several corridors before finding their way to an old library, all the books were dusty and the wooden tables and chairs had creaked with just a pinch of pressure.
As Adam searched the bookcases for something a book stood out to him, its color was a fading blue but the gold binding's stood out as they lit up in the light, as he reached for it, he felt as if his hand attracted the book like a magnet as the book flew into his hand. The title of the book read "Planting advice for beginners". Well that's a little insulting, isn't it?
The crisp sound of the pages indicated it was still relatively new as he turned to the first page it read "Acer palmatum 'Bloodgood' ".

Adam almost jumped out of his seat when he heard the system in his head, in front of his eyes appeared a screen that displayed different stats, like in a video game he once had but there was an empty slot down at the bottom.

Adam stared at the screen with wonder, it showed his stats like a video game but it didn't seem like there was anything about skills, skill points, or even stat points, the empty slots he saw near the bottom of the screen made him feel drawn to pressing one of them.
He raised his trembling finger and pushed it into the empty slot below "tree". In front of his eyes appeared a myriad of choices as there were many that were gray and latched with chains, but the ones that weren't latched with chains appeared at the top.

Comparing the stats of the tree to his own made him a little jealous but pressing it again gave him another prompt.

Understanding what this meant he pressed 'Y' as he felt a seed burrow itself into his back, strangely enough, it wasn't painful, it was seemingly as if he was made from dirt and someone simply pushed the seed inside of him.
There was one thing though... He felt thirsty... Very Thirsty...
"Yuu? Is there anywhere that I can get some water?"
"Hm? Oh yes the fountains, though I wouldn't recommend you go there, We can buy you a bottle of water just make sure to pay me back tomorrow"
"How can I pay? I'm in prison, and you are also in prison"
"Forgot to tell you, we need to get you to the job relocation office down by the cells so you can get a job"
"And they range from?"
"Accountant, physical labor jobs, and mostly just some average other jobs, I think there is a position open in the kitchen, we will just have to see"
"What job do you have?"
"You ask too many questions, but yes I am in plumbing, you have no idea how many people try to sneak out of the prison by the sewers. I get paid pretty well compared to the other jobs, about 46 yen an hour, I think a bottle of water is about 50 yen so you are going to have to work for a day to pay me back"
"What's the highest paying?"
"I would say it's accounting, they get paid about 81 yen an hour"
"Lead the way then"
As they both got up Adam noticed a weird lump in his back, probably nothing right?
