[Nautilus POV]

"It's too quiet," Marco said.

"Duh," I replied. Honestly, why did he feel the need to point out the obvious? With how dark and foggy it was, my dumbass of a Trainer was just asking for a Ghost-type to show up.

"hehehehe."

"What was that?" I asked, turning rapidly to find the source.

"That was creepy," he said. He pointed his flashlight around uselessly. The fog was too dense to see anything.

"Yo, stupid, that's not going to help us," I told him.

"Shut up, you punk," he replied. Arceus, he pisses me off so much.

"Careful, or I'll Peck your tiny pecker off," I growled. He stopped, and I smirked.

"How would you know if it's tiny, you pervert?"

I froze. Damnit, he got me. Again. Just before I snapped at him, a branch snapped. It was close.

"Too close," Marco said.

"hehehehe."

There it was. That was definitely a Pokémon.

"Boo!" a Phantump jumped out of the fog, scaring Marco and making fall down onto his back. Before I could attack, she retreated into the fog and disappeared in a fit of giggles.

"Damn jump scares," he grumbled as he picked himself up. He was now covered in spiderwebs, and he tried desperately to shake them off. I felt something in the air. It was faint, but something was coming closer. My eyes widened, and I pushed Marco down, taking a bite from an Ariados.

"That hurts, damnit!" I shouted.

"You interrupted my break-k-k-fast," the spider groaned.

"It's nighttime, you freak," I said as I made space between us.

"Pluck!" Marco shouted.

"Fuck off!" I told him, but did it anyway.

The Flying-type energy flowed naturally, and I zoomed forward. The Ariados' eyes widened. I hit him three times before he used a move. The Oran Berry he had shriveled as its energy flowed into me. He tried to slow me down with String Shot, but I stayed away and used Psyshock instead.

"Stop attacking!" he spat. "I just want human blood."

"He's my human!" I told him. "Fuck off and find your own!"

"Ah, fine. Whatever. You're an annoying little shit anyway," the spider said before skittering away.

"Damn, that was close. Thank you," the sad mistake for a human said.

"You're lucky I keep choosing to save your ass," I told him.

"And you're lucky I keep feeding you fresh meals instead of that kibble shit from the PokéMart."

I shuttered. Thinking about the one I tried brought back the nightmares my tongue went through. I would rather starve than eat those pellets. They were dryer than Groudon's ass crack and so bitter I would rather eat Grimer sludge.

Suddenly, a Ledian jumped at us, its mangled body ruining the attempt as the broken leg snapped off completely. It fell over and tumbled across the forest floor. A bloodied Vespiquen emerged from a bush and lunged. It grabbed Marco and wrestled with him. He kept its claws away from him, but vines wrapped around his waist and slammed him into a tree.

The tree came alive as the Trevenant grabbed Marco's arms and pulled them apart. It cackled as a half-rotten Amoonguss held his legs with vines. Several Beedrill skeletons slashed their way out of the dirt. Marco struggled harder to free himself from the dead Pokémon. His panic morphed into fear as the Beedrill stingers approached him.

I rushed to help him, but something grabbed me from behind. I used Psybeam to shake it off. That only earned a snicker echoing from everywhere. I couldn't move. I watched as the first Beedrill pierced Marco's left leg. He screamed in pain. He yelled and jerked wildly as another Beedrill stabbed through his shoulder and tore the arm open.

My eyes widened. I couldn't move. I was terrified. Worst of all, I couldn't do anything to save him. A Gengar held me back as they tore through him. The Gengar laughed as the dead bugs shredded Marco's body. The ghost's twisted smile brought visions of my future. I felt something worm in my head. It crawled all over the inside of my skull.

A Shuppet pulled itself out of my mouth. It turned to me and screeched.

"Happy Halloween!"
