Chapter 139 - Death Knights?

Viree crushed the skull of the death knight after 2 hours of fist fighting it. She looked over at me, "Well, that one was much tougher to kill."

I nodded, "I think I know the problem. The layers of magic aren't melded together."

I walked back to the table and looked over the next Ice Tribe Subject. It almost looked human, but the uncanny features were clear. Each Ice Tribe member looked as if someone pasted a human skin over an ice golem.

The current subject was even worse than the normal uncanny Ice Creature. I had turned it inside out and seperated each layer of the creature. Viree looked over my shoulder, "These things are disgusting."

I nodded, "They lack any form of a circulatory system, their respiratory system is incredibly minimal and finally the digestive system is... Well they have a stomach."

She looked at me, "I was referring to their faces. I mean..." She shuddered slightly looking at the Ice Tribe on the table. "It doesn't seem real."

I knew exactly what she meant, but the inhuman nature of the Ice Tribe reminded me of a hyper realistic low poly entity. Which seemed like a paradox, but looking at the creature on the table I couldn't describe it any other way.

I condensed magic and slowly began altering the creature. Eventually it glowed from the magic, "RISE MY DEATH KNIGHT! RISE!"

Viree punched me in the shoulder, "I told you if you do that one more time."

I rubbed my shoulder and rolled my eyes, "No fun." I resurrected the Ice Tribe into a death knight. It's skin dried and shrunk to hug its bones. The death knight became all the more uncanny until a black mist covered its body.

As the mist formed into armor, Viree whistled. "I will say this is fun to watch."

It's eyes began to fill with a hollow blue glow and it stood up with a crack. It didn't speak, but it looked at me for its new orders. "Defend against the woman in front of you."

It raised its hands and the moment Viree threw a punch instead of the normal guard. The Death Knight did something differently. It ducked and threw a punch back. Viree caught the punch and pushed the knight back.

"That's new." Viree looked at me with curiosity.

"It seems we found our winner. Now I need to make 4 more of them." I looked at the room and I was left with only one more Ice Tribe to convert into a death knight. "I guess I need to get more."

A familiar voice made me jump slight. "I can do that for you. You said this is the one?"

I snapped around, "Jaclyn, how are you."

She raised an eyebrow and her eyes flicked to Viree and preformed a once over. "Interesting." She looked back at the newly created Death Knight.

"So you learned necromancy?" Her eyes had the look of pure judgement. It made me feel awkward.

I shifted around the table, "I learned magic, mostly alteration, but through some events and discovers I gained a very clear insight into magic itself."

Viree let out a small laugh, "You absorbed the power from an artifact you described to have the power to destroy the world."

I shrugged at her words, "It was the most efficient means to increase my mana pool. Though I will say I believe it made my potential for magic lower. Luckily I have the means to get around that."

Jaclyn raised an eyebrow, "World ending artifact?"

I waved my hand back and forth, "It has the power, but the person who tried using it wouldn't have gotten that far."

Jaclyn sighed, "I won't ask, but why didn't you say hello?"

I felt awkward and I honestly didn't know what to say. I mean how does one explain I received memories of a second life I both lived parallel to my current one.

Viree was thankfully attuned to my worries. "He has a plan for that blizzard. So he wanted to get to it right away."

Jaclyn nodded, "Fair enough, but he should still come to the archives. He wasn't allowed in the deeper sections previously, but he can now. Which might provide some good insights. Though currently I am more interested in this creature you have made."

Viree looked over at me and I shrugged. So I turned back to Jaclyn, "What is interesting?"

Jaclyn shook her head, "I feel like that is obvious. The Ice Tribes aren't living in the first place. Sure they have flesh and blood, but they are still constructs made from the blizzard. The arms and legs if you want to picture it that way. To resurrect it with necromancy, it feels like it shouldn't be possible."

I looked at the death knight that stood their swaying. It held high intelligence compared to other summons. I reached out with my mana though and felt a cold dark chill. "Fuck."

The death knight lunged and Viree reacted instantly. Her weapon was in her hand and slamming through the death knight in moments of it moving.

"Well, that's interesting." I leaned down at the rekilled Frost Tribesmen. "The connection between the Corpse and the Blizzard reestablished after a few moments of it resurrecting. I would've noticed if it reconnected instantly. Magic imbuement should've any connection as well."

I scratched my chin in some thought. Viree kicked husk, "Don't undead created like this turn to ash due to the magic collapsing on itself."

I looked at Viree and smiled, "Clever, Clever..." I looked down at the husk and began dissecting it.

Jaclyn shifted, "I remember him doing this as a kid, but I feel it got worse. Is he normally like this."

Viree shrug and I felt sour and continued my work. "Interesting. It appears my plan for Death Knights will be useless here." Spells really were limited despite so many options.

Jaclyn looked over at me, "What's the problem."

I sighed, "The necromancy worked, however the magic that originally created the Ice Tribesman overlaps with my own magic. To put simply, I would fight for control over the death knight. When you mentioned its true nature I laxed my magic enough for it to return to its natural state."

Viree kicked her feet, "Please do not tell me we need to explore that blizzard ourselves."

I shrugged, "Honestly, I don't know." Viree seemed to react to something she could see in me.

She turned to Jaclyn, "It seems we will need to visit the library. Shall we head there now?"

Jaclyn smiled, "I doubt I need to show you there, but sure. While we walk tell me about your adventures."

I scratched my chin in some thought. "That is rather easy actually."
