Chapter 132 - When do things go wrong?

I decided to use detect to make sure I didn't have a tail throughout the day. Though it had little meaning since this Lesman fellow started following me around anyway. He still dressed as an ordinary soldier and he appeared to be one as well.

If it wasn't for varying factors I really would've believed he was an ordinary soldier. Most of the day was spent writing notes and passing them to people around the city. Eventually though I arrived at the temple of the gods.

I spotted the priest i was looking for and walked over. "Silana Petreia, right? I'm Vek Frostwane."

She looked up from her task. Looking at the damp cloth in her hand I thought about cleaning products. Perhaps I could make a 'donation' to the temple at some point. She smiled, "Ah, yes I know you. You have a rather... distinct reputation for hording daedric artifacts."

She pointed to my sword, I nodded, "That is a fair assessment, but to be fair I made this sword myself from two daedric swords."

Lesman behind me seemed to shift briefly. However he stayed mostly the same passive stance. Silana smiled, "So what can I do for you though?"

I used a gentle smile, "Ah, I was wondering about the wedding coming up. You see..." I pretend to look for the words. "Information has been discovered. The wedding may be in danger of a unprovoked attack. So despite the bride being a business rival, I have decided to do the right thing and inform those that may need to know."

Silana blinked, but nodded. "Your actions honor the divines, but pardon my suspicion. You do not seem the type to act as such."

I turned to Lesman, "This is a member of the Penitus Oculatus." I made a point of emphasis on his faction.

I motioned with my hands pretending to find the words to use. "It was discovered that some plots that compromise the safety of the empire are currently being acted out here in skyrim. Does this help to explain why my help is being given?"

Silana laughed, "Yes, that does explain things. What do you need? Don't you already have the temple's blueprints?"

Lesman looked at me with curiosity and I hooked a smile. "I need more specific blueprints, mine are from the blue palace. What I need is the complete blueprints. I will be using them to set traps, inspect balconies, repair critical failures and finally spot anywhere a long ranged attack may be used."

I already have a specific plan in mind on how to Eezra will kill Vittoria Vici. It will be complicated, but should be untraceable. Ironically it was her business partner, or more future business partner's family that would be the key. Ingun has sent a letter or two containing her new discoveries in alchemy.

I tilted my head at Silana, "Are you going to go get the building schematics?"

Silana sighed, "A priest is supposed to be here in the temple at all times. So if anyone comes in, please tell them I will be right back."

I gave a nod, "Of course, though I did make sure to come in during the time with the least traffic for a reason."

Silana left and I walked over to the shrines. Each of them were meticulous and had a shiny gleam to them. Even the empty shrine for Talos was cleaned and well taken care of. This time of day though was just after all the Talos worshippers came in though. Flowers, Offerings, and amulets were left by the shrine. The Flowers and Offerings would be later removed by the priests.

The amulets though hung on the pedestal. Some were well-worn, while others seemed brand new. So many still openly worshipped Talos, while others hide behind minimum effort. "Did you know Torygg still worshipped Talos and openly opposed the Thalmor's efforts in removing this shrine? I didn't know that until Falk Firebeard told me."

Lesman didn't say anything, but I heard him shifting around. This was the time to probe Lesman and perhaps the disposition of the emperor. "Who do you think set the contract on the Emperor? Not the one who actually put the hit, but the person who set things into motion?"

In the reflection of the shrine pedestal I watched Lesman. "Does that mean you think it is a conspiracy?"

I smiled, "Perhaps, I mean, despite the public opinion of our Emperor. No one hates him enough to put out a hit. With this civil war if the emperor is assassinated, things will shift and the imperial army will certainly be more forceful. After all the new emperor will need to make a name for himself and suppressing a civil war would be a good start."

Lesman frowned, "I'm just a soldier, why are you telling me this?"

I turned around to face Lesman, "Very well, I guess I need to show all my cards. I came here at this time, because no one and I mean no one. Other than Silana would be here at this time. You hide your magic well, I wouldn't have noticed it. However thanks to my specific research of magic..."

He sighed, "I told Maro you would notice something. I did my best to research you and everything I got was that you were extremely..."

"Prepared?" I interrupted him before he said Paranoid.

Lesman shook his head, "Like Maro actually, before he even arrived at Solitude he was looking into everyone in the city. When we got to you, we got very worried."

I stared at the man, "No further elaboration?"

He nodded, "We all have our own goals."

I scoffed and turned away, seems I wouldn't be learning much more. He would no doubt report to Maro or perhaps the Emperor. Actually... I silent placed my a mark on him. I could just track where he goes. Telling that he didn't react, he couldn't tell he was being tracked either.

Silana came back with a rather thick booklet of paper. "Here is the blueprints."

I raised an eyebrow, "Why is it so large?"

She shrugged, "Improvements were made over time and things were removed over time." She gestured to shrine I stood in front of. Today was just a poor day for information. "I'll look it over and return it later."

I turned away pausing for a second, "May fortune be with you."

She looked at me curiously, but nodded back. "May the divines be with you."

Lesman stopped outside the door, "I will be on my way."

I watched him leave and I started to the Winking skeever. Thankfully reveal my cards to Lesman allowed me the time to contact Eezra. With them breathing down my back I was paranoid in contacting her for the next step of my... contribution.
