Aside from the fact that each spell increased the amount of damage the subsequent spell dealt by a certain amount, each spell also seemed to cover a certain field in combat.
From what he could tell, [1st Omen: Famine] and [2nd Omen: Pestilence] were spells that mostly focused on reducing the opposing side's advantage as much as possible through an insane amount of debuffs.
On the other hand, [3rd Omen: War] and [4th Omen: Death] were spells purely made to deal an insane amount of damage.
