The Guardians and the clan leaders had questions left unanswered when the gathering ended. So did Alex, but after learning truths that reshaped both their understanding of the past and the shape of what was coming, no one in that room was in any state of mind to discuss smaller matters.
So, one by one, the clan leaders rose and left, their footsteps echoing against the vaulted ceiling until the sound of them faded down the corridors beyond.
Guardian Elmara left quietly as well, which was, in itself, worth noting. Before the gathering, she had been relentless about it, practically insisting that Alex contact Magnus and pressure him into lending her the Sin General's heart, if only for a few days, so she could examine it properly.
She hadn't mentioned it once as she left.
