Chapter 14 - The Hunt begins

(Be warned, there is gore that is usual during hunting. I will try to keep it low but read at your own risk.)

He jumped through the foliage and started running after the deers who had been alerted by the noise made by Teo. Both of them spilted along the way, desperately hoping to lose their hunter to other deer. Teo didn't lose his mark though and approached his target.

Deer was quick on his feet as it sensed Teo nearing him and started to zig zag while running, trying to lay off its hunter, but Teo didn't let him off. He kept persuing his prey.

Meanwhile the young God had trouble following this speed chase. Even with his peak body, it was difficult to keep up with them without magic spells. From above Yvonne and the others were watching this closely. Seeing the troubled expression on his face, she decided to relay him the information needed to use wind as transportation.

After receiving the information he turned his body into partial wind and was able to keep up the prey and predator. Any normal person would have trouble following up on the information but with his white core, the only limit was his imagination.

Teo was covering the distance much faster than the deer could create and jumped as the opportunity presented itself. Sensing his imminent death, the deer turned around and stood its ground. As Teo neared his prey the deer shoved its majestic antlers forward hoping to put an end to his predicament.

Alas for the deer, Teo wasn't a normal predator. He had a violet core, only a step before white. As he saw the antlers aiming at his heart, he twisted his body using element of air. A strong gust of wind pushed his body away from the deadly weapon wielded by the deer. He landed just an inch from the shocked deer and went for its neck, snapping it in half and ripping it from the body in one go.

The young God who was following this closely was absolutely awe-struck by the hunt. It seemed like a dance between the prey and predator. Closing in each other but retreating just by an inch, until the endgame.

He ignored the lifeless eyes that still looked at him in surprise as he landed besides the wolf. Teo was currently busy tearing the flesh apart from the limbs. He had already eaten through the liver and heart, leaving the intestines and bladder. He was skilled enough to know, not to eat something that contained acids, bodily fluids and most importantly feces. He was an animal but one with grace and a sophisticated palate.

After ten minutes of hungrily rending muscles apart from bones, he turned into his human form while destroying any traces of blood and gore from his body with a low tiered darkness spell. He stood up and patted his clothes to clean off any dirt which reappeared after his clothes came back.

"Are you ready to hunt." He didn't apologize for his indulgence in the now bare boned deer carcass. His eyes met the curious eyes who God who had watched him thoroughly eat.

"I have never hunted anything, so my expertise in that area is lacking."

"Just follow your instincts. Every being has instincts that push them forward and I am sure you will find yours."

"I'll try." He didn't hesitate answering. While on the way here he had thought about how he was going to hunt. He knew that the skills he learnt here would be useful while hunting aether fiends in space. He still didn't have any answers. So he decided to do as he was told: Follow your instincts.

*Above the forest canopy*

"Do you think he will be successful?" Tavar asked Yvonne.

"It depends, I have already passed him enough information to peace together spells that could prove detrimental in his hunt. But if he doesn't know how or when to use one, he will definitely fail."She replied while spectating the young God trying to catch some squirrels using air blades and dark arrows. Teo had forbidden fire element in order to prevent the forest from catching it.

"I think he could do it. He seems like a curious person but my instincts tell me he is more. When I met him, his eyes had thoroughly scrutinized me. He is more than he seems, even for a young one of your kind, Yvonne" Raenulf said as he kept maintaining the invisibility spell which kept them covered from outside world.

Tavar nodded while the Goddess fell into a flurry of thoughts. She had known about it for a while now. He would keep things inside his mind without letting on. He was even getting better at hiding his most refulgent thoughts.

"We may be here for a while" Yvonne said as she watched another failed attempt of the God trying to catch a bird.

*Back to the hunt*

"Come here you hairy critter!" This was the eighth rabbit that had escaped his dark arrow. The dark arrow was a spell made from darkness and looked like one when shot. It left a trail of darkness behind due to the young God's inability to fully maintain spell integrity after letting it go.

He always let go of the spell mid flight, letting it disperse before it hit the target or went unstable and exploding mid air. This infuriated him to no end.

It was midnight now, after hours of failed attempts he was at his limit. Even though his body kept supplying him energy through mana in his vicinity, he was getting tired from it.

"You have to be patient. Hunting is about patience and observation. You do neither and always go for the kill." Teo let go of his stealth spell which allowed him to hide his overbearing presence from prey. He was mindful enough to let out killing intent when he sensed another magical beast or predator on hunt.

"I can't control my spells, they always go haywire." He sighed as he kept collecting mana in his body, which was blissful similar enough to aether absorption.

"I'm sorry but I can't help you there, orders from above, literally." He pointed above to emphasize his point.

"She sent me her memories of conjuring spells but she can't teach me how to form those spells properly without them blowing in my face?" Teo just shrugged in response. This made the young God grumble and continue forward.

After many failed attempts he had decided to learn mana manipulation in order to form spells that worked properly.

'I need to make spells that bend to my will as aether does. But how do I do that.' He was deep in thought as it hit him.

'Mana is just like Aether! I'm such a fool for not realising it. Rabbits and birds beware now!' He exclaimed.

Mana was very similar to aether as it consisted of manipulating the respective elements in their dormant form and shaping them as needed.

After hours of error and trial, he was able to control and guide the dark arrow up to a mile. Although he had overdone the distance, he was still proud of it. It was nearly morning now, sun rays were now peaking through the forest roof. This gave him his vision back. One of the reasons for his failures was inability to properly see.

'I see you now' He had set his eyes on a greyish yellow owl who had just landed on a tree branch not too far away. He used a float spell to stay above the ground.

When the owl had made itself comfortable, the young God fired a magic arrow. This time the arrow stayed true to its mark and didn't disperse, he kept supplying it with mana as the arrow kept speeding towards the owl. When the arrow was inches away from the chest, it got destroyed by a well placed wind blade. The owl flew off yelling curses at him, leaving the young God confused and infuriated.

"You did good, if the owl didn't wield magic he would surely have been dead." Teo patted his back at the God looked in the direction the owl had flown.

"I'll get you, each and every one of you who had escaped me. I promise." The young God tightened his hands as a fire lighted in his eyes, the thrill of the hunt had taken over him.
