Chapter 174: History
Black Zetsu could do nothing but watch Raiken reveal the past while destroying all his plans. If Raiken knew about Otsutsuki, Zetsu believed he also knew about his plan.
He had lived for almost a century, older than anyone else present in this world. He had watched new governments rise and collapse, guided the course of wars from the shadows, and never once encountered anyone outside his carefully controlled circle who knew the Otsutsuki name like Raiken.
And yet here was this man, standing in the middle of the cave, about to reveal that clan.
Black Zetsu froze entirely when Raiken's eyes paused on him for a moment, on the exact spot where he was hiding. Although he was hiding, Raiken managed to locate him easily.
The corner of Raiken's mouth pulled up slightly after looking in the direction where Black Zetsu was hiding.
'He knows,' thought Black Zetsu.
Every part of him shifted into combat readiness, calculating the fastest exit from the cave and what Raiken would do next.
What happened instead left Black Zetsu more uncomfortable.
Raiken continued talking.
"Otsutsuki," Raiken said, letting the word sit in the cave air for a moment before continuing. "That is the name of our ancestor; her name was Kaguya Otsutsuki, and she was the origin of all chakra in this world. Everything that every shinobi has ever used, every technique, every kekkei genkai, every ability that has ever been awakened in this world, all of it traces back to her."
He paused and looked directly at Madara.
Madara's expression changed; he looked interested in what Raiken wanted to tell him, and at the same time grew more wary of him.
"I know you have read about Hagoromo in the Naka Shrine," continued Raiken. "Kaguya was his mother. She came to this world from somewhere else entirely, not from any nation, she wasn't from this world but from somewhere beyond this planet. She wasn't human in the way either of us are. She was something considerably older and considerably more dangerous, and she came here because this world had something her clan wanted.

"The Chakra Fruit," said Raiken. "She consumed its fruit and took its power into herself and, in doing so, became something that this world had never seen before. Her sons, Hagoromo and Hamura, eventually had to seal her away because she turned a human into her soldier. The moon eye plan that you wanted to execute is the ritual to unseal her from her prison."
Madara absorbed this without interrupting, but his face changed when Raiken simply reveal his plan.
"Hagoromo is who you know as the Sage of Six Paths," continued Raiken. "He spent his life trying to distribute chakra in a way that would allow people to understand each other rather than destroy each other. His older son, Indra, inherited his eyes, and his younger son, Asura, inherited his body and his belief. I believe you already know what happened between those two and every generation that followed them because I come from Asura lineage and you were from Indra lineage."
"I do," said Madara quietly.
"What you do not know," said Raiken, "is that Kaguya did not come here alone, and she was not the last of her kind to take an interest in this world."
Everyone in the cave fell completely silent; Black Zetsu, who already had that memory from when her mother gave birth to him, also knew an overview of what happened before his mother was sealed.

"The Otsutsuki Clan is not a legend or a historical footnote," said Raiken. "They are alive; there are members of that clan who have been monitoring this world from a distance for longer than any shinobi civilization has existed, and they are not monitoring it out of curiosity. They are monitoring it because this world produces something they want, and they intend to come and take it."
Madara looked at him for a long moment.
"When will they come?" asked Madara.
"That depends on several things that are still in motion," replied Raiken. "But the timeline is not as far away as I believed; maybe in 50 years they will send their people here."
"Is there any proof of what you just said?" asked Madara.
"Yes, I do have proof and evidence; we can find a living Otsutsuki that came here with Kaguya a thousand years ago," replied Raiken.
"Bring me to them," ordered Madara.
"Relax, old man, before that Eye of the Moon Plan that you have been planning," said Raiken, "would place every living person in this world inside a Genjutsu powerful enough to keep them completely unaware of anything happening around them. Which means that when the Otsutsuki arrive to harvest what they came for, there would be no one conscious to resist them, no one strong enough even to notice what was happening until there was nothing left to notice."
Madara said nothing,
Black Zetsu, still frozen in his hiding position, had prepared to escape from Madara and Raiken, but he was still here, wanting to know what Raiken really knew about her mother.
"Eventually, those who are inside the genjutsu would turn into mindless soldiers like white zetsu," revealed Raiken
"You are saying my plan would turn them into white Zetsu," said Madara, surprised; he thought of thousands of White Zetsu he had seen on that tree.
"I am saying your plan was never your plan," replied Raiken, glancing toward Black Zetsu's hiding place for just a moment before looking back at Madara. "But that is a conversation for after we finish what we came here to do."
Madara followed his gaze toward the shadows where Black Zetsu had been hiding, and something moved behind his eyes.
