Bertha Lyle turned to look at the Hawthorne family's butler, feigning curiosity as she sought confirmation, "Is that so? Old man, you are supposed to know all about the Hawthorne family inside out."
"Demoness, stop spreading lies here!" Mr. Oakes yelled angrily at Bertha Lyle.
He then spoke forcefully, "Everyone, do not believe the words of this demoness! She's merely stalling for time. Earlier, she was seriously injured. If we don't seize this opportunity to eliminate her, she will be a menace to everyone in the future. By then, it'll be even harder to kill her."
"Mr. Oakes, why are you in such a hurry? I'm still here, aren't I?" Bertha Lyle said coyly, gently covering half her face with red silk sleeves and smiling shyly, her voice enticing all who heard it.
