Chapter 754 - Chapter 753: Wearing Sunglasses Is Imprinted in the DNA

Laura Kinney—she was one of the test subjects from the Alkali Institute.

That's right. The institute had given life to her and to other mutant children, but never once did they treat them as living, breathing people. To them, these children were products—biological weapons to be customized, studied, priced, and sold.

The facility was set up in lawless Mexico, deliberately hiring poor locals to care for the mutant children. The goal was obvious: to keep the institute's true nature hidden from the outside world.

Because they knew—they knew exactly how unspeakably evil this was.

Gabriela Peréz was one of the nurses working at the institute. Though she was poor and desperately needed the job, she still had a conscience. Moved by pity for the children, she began documenting the atrocities committed there.

The most damning evidence she recorded? A video showing Laura Kinney being surgically modified—having adamantium claws implanted. That moment didn't just tear open old wounds for the aged Logan watching the footage; it also sparked outrage among countless viewers beyond the screen.

No normal person with any sense of morality could bear to watch such cruelty without reacting. People across the world erupted in anger, condemning both the authorities and the deranged scientists behind this nightmare.

Outside the video, Logan let out a heavy breath.

"At least they didn't give her a full adamantium skeleton… just the claws. That's... less painful, I guess."

Erik shot him a look.

"You've got quite a high tolerance for horror. That little girl is your daughter, Logan. You should treat her with a bit more kindness."

Logan rolled his eyes.

"Then maybe you should go jump into that future video and tell future me. Otherwise, nothing's going to change."

Erik, calmer now and no longer as outraged as before, shrugged.

"I'm just saying—don't do anything stupid, Logan. Consider this a warning."

"Fuck you," Logan muttered, flashing him a very international hand gesture, before turning back to watch the video.

In the footage, Gabriela's phone had died, so the recording ended. Inside the car, the older Logan and Charles sat in silence.

Finally, Charles said quietly,

"You took her money. You said you'd get the girl to safety."

Logan glanced out the window. Outside, the little girl was playing with a mechanical toy. It was hard to believe that just hours earlier, this same sweet, innocent-looking child had let out a series of wild howls as she drove sharp adamantium claws through a man's skull, her face blank and expressionless.

That strange blend of childish innocence and raw, primal violence—it all existed in her. And in that moment, Logan saw his younger self in her. With a heavy heart, he asked,

"What is she?"

Charles replied, his tone layered with meaning:

"She's your daughter, Logan. The Alkali Institute used your DNA."

It was obvious. Laura had displayed an extraordinary healing factor, just like Logan's. And in time, she'd undergone a nearly identical set of body modifications.

But Logan, weathered by years of pain and loss, no longer had the emotional capacity to care about a "daughter" who suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Right now, all he could focus on was taking care of Charles. Just that one thing already felt like a mountain on his back.

So he simply opened the car door and got out, unwilling to continue the conversation. But Charles called out to him, completely shameless as he muttered that he needed help… going to the bathroom.

Watching that part, the present-day Charles Xavier rubbed his forehead, feeling a deep sense of helplessness. Embarrassed, he turned to Logan.

"I can't believe I put you through so much in the future."

Logan looked at him long and hard, then said in a low voice,

"I'm sure that, in that future, what you gave me was worth more than anything I ever gave back. Charles, you know that, too."

Those words deeply moved Charles. At the very least, it meant his lifelong struggle had some meaning. Some value.

On the screen, Logan was helping a senile, frail Charles to the bathroom. The scene was both absurd and achingly poignant.

Meanwhile, Laura was causing her own trouble. Her toy had stopped moving when the timer ran out, so she bared her teeth and popped her claws, ready to slash open the coin slot.

Her instinctive fascination with toys was pure and childlike, but she had been raised as a living weapon from day one—trained to solve problems with violence. Trying to exist in a civilized world, she only knew how to respond with force.

The contrast was heartbreaking.

Even Logan couldn't take it anymore. He stepped in, stopped her, and handed her a coin so she could play again.

She was like a little wolf pup, raised in a world where only the strong survived—now dropped into society, completely out of place.

When she finally tired of the toy, she wandered into a small convenience store and helped herself to snacks and drinks, munching away as if paying was never even a consideration.

Then she saw the sunglasses.

Drawn to them instantly, she picked out a pair and put them on—and in that moment, it became undeniably clear that she really was Logan's daughter. The way she wore those shades and tried to look cool... it was practically hardcoded in her DNA.

When the cashier tried to ask her to pay, Laura did what came naturally. She grabbed the poor guy, slammed him to the ground with a judo throw, then coolly extended her claws, about to pierce his throat.

Fortunately, Logan arrived just in time to stop her. But instead of giving her a lecture about paying for things, he grabbed a phone charger and a few cigars—without paying for them either.

Well then. Apparently, not paying for stuff, riding motorcycles, and wearing sunglasses like a badass were all part of the same inherited Logan legacy.

Outside the screen, Erik commented dryly,

"Logan, you're really not much of a father, are you?"

Logan rolled his eyes again.

"Yeah? And I suppose you're qualified to talk?"

Back in the video, after all the chaos, the three of them resumed their journey.

That night, with Charles and Laura asleep, Logan put on his glasses and resumed watching Gabriela Peréz's video on her phone. Sure enough, the later parts exposed even more of the Alkali Institute's horrifying secrets.

They had planned to raise the mutant children into bio-weapons—products to be sold. But in the end, they were still children. Still people. Their natural innocence and instincts rebelled against the soulless brainwashing and brutal training forced on them inside the facility.
