Chapter 2 - chapter 02

City D – 2025

A younger and more delicate version of Su Yan was sleeping peacefully on her bed.

Suddenly, a white light appeared out of nowhere and shot straight into her body through the space between her eyebrows.

The sleeping Su Yan groaned softly. Her peaceful expression slowly twisted into a frown, as if she were trapped in a terrible nightmare.

Minutes passed.

Then the bracelet on her wrist suddenly disappeared, leaving behind a faint tattoo in its place.

At that moment, Su Yan abruptly opened her eyes.

She stared at the ceiling for a moment before quickly sitting up and looking around the room.

The familiar surroundings made her heart tremble.

A smile slowly appeared on her face.

I… was reborn again before the apocalypse.

Was it because of Doctor Huang's strange liquid?

Su Yan looked around the room carefully, her smile growing wider.

"But it doesn't matter now," she murmured softly.

"All that matters is… I'm back."

She reached for the phone on the table beside her bed.

Unlocking it, she opened the calendar.

Monday – September 27, 2025

Her eyes widened slightly.

Two days.

It was exactly two days before the apocalypse began.

Just as she was still processing everything, a knock sounded on the door.

The sound pulled her out of her thoughts.

"Come in," Su Yan said.

A few seconds later, the door opened slowly.

A small, cute boy about six years old stepped inside. His round eyes looked at her curiously.

"Big sister, it's time for breakfast. Aren't you going to school today?"

Su Yan froze when she saw him.

"Su Jin…"

Her voice was barely a whisper.

Her eyes quickly filled with tears.

The little boy walked closer with a worried expression.

"Big sister, are you sick?"

He reached out his tiny hand and touched her forehead.

Su Yan quickly shook her head.

"No… no."

She opened her arms.

"Come here. Let big sister give you a hug."

Su Jin obediently stepped forward and wrapped his small arms around her.

Su Yan hugged him tightly.

In her previous life, her little brother had died in the early days of the apocalypse.

He had still been at school when it happened.

One of his classmates suddenly turned into a zombie and bit him.

By the time Su Yan rushed to the kindergarten to find him…

It was already too late.

She still remembered the horrifying scene clearly.

Her little brother lying on the ground.

His small body trembling.

A zombie crouched over him, devouring his intestines.

Su Yan had killed the zombie in a frenzy.

But her brother was already gone.

That memory had haunted her for years.

Even now, her arms tightened around the small boy in front of her.

She blamed herself for not saving him sooner.

"Big sister?" Su Jin's soft voice broke her thoughts.

"Yes?"

"You're crying."

Su Yan quickly wiped her tears.

"I'm sorry… Big sister just had a sad dream."

"Oh…"

The little boy gently wiped her tears with his tiny hands.

"Don't cry."

Su Yan smiled faintly.

"Okay."

She looked at him carefully, as if trying to memorize every detail of his face.

Her heart filled with warmth.

This time…

I will protect you.

I won't let you die again.

"It's time for breakfast," Su Jin reminded her.

"Oh… right."

"I'll be downstairs in a minute."

"Okay!"

The little boy nodded happily and ran out of the room.

Once the door closed, Su Yan let out a deep breath.

Then she stood up and walked into the bathroom.

After washing up, she changed into a pair of dark pants and a dark shirt.

A few minutes later, she walked downstairs.

When she entered the dining room, everyone at the table looked up.

Her father, Su Jimo, sat at the head of the table.

Beside him were her stepmother Chen Ai and her stepsister Su Lin.

The moment Su Yan saw them, a surge of anger rose in her chest.

These two women had made her life a living hell in her previous life.

During the early chaos of the apocalypse, they secretly sold her to a brothel run by criminals.

And when her father finally returned from his business trip months later, they told him that Su Yan had died.

If she hadn't eventually escaped and grown strong enough to return for revenge…

They would have lived happily forever.

But this time…

Su Yan forced the anger down.

For now, she didn't care about them.

As long as they didn't do anything stupid, she might let them live peacefully.

After all—

In her previous life, she had already killed them both with her own hands.

Su Yan calmly sat beside her little brother.

"Sister Yan, aren't you going to school today?" Su Lin asked curiously.

"No."

Su Yan answered shortly and continued eating her breakfast.

"Are you feeling unwell?" Chen Ai asked.

"I just don't feel like going to school today," Su Yan replied expressionlessly.

Her father frowned slightly.

"It's not good to skip classes."

"I know," Su Yan said calmly.

She didn't bother explaining further.

Her father wiped his mouth with a napkin.

"I'll be leaving for a business trip today," he said.

"I'll be back in about a week."

Su Yan paused slightly.

In her previous life, the apocalypse had begun while her father was away on this exact business trip.

He was trapped in another city for months.

When he finally returned, he had already awakened powerful abilities.

He searched everywhere for his family.

But by that time, Chen Ai had already sold Su Yan.

And she had lied to him that Su Yan was dead.

Later, when Su Yan returned for revenge and killed both Chen Ai and Su Lin…

Her father never stopped her.

He simply watched silently.

But this time—

Things would be different.

"Dad," Su Yan said calmly.

"I need some money."

"How much?" Su Jimo asked.

"Five hundred thousand."

Chen Ai nearly choked.

"Five hundred thousand?!" she exclaimed.

"That's a lot of money! What do you need that much for?"

But Su Jimo didn't question further.

"Alright."

He took out his phone and transferred the money directly into Su Yan's account.

Chen Ai's eyes widened in jealousy.

"Honey… can you also give me some money?" she asked quickly.

Su Jimo glanced at her coldly.

"For what?"

"Um… I…"

She suddenly didn't know what to say.

"I have to go now."

Su Jimo stood up and left the dining room.

Su Yan watched his back quietly.

She didn't stop him.

In fact…

She wanted him to leave.

Because once the apocalypse began, Chen Ai and Su Lin would be completely helpless.

"Why do you need so much money?" Chen Ai demanded angrily.

Inside, she was furious.

That man cares so much about this little slut.

He gave her such a huge amount without even asking why.

Su Yan calmly wiped her mouth with a napkin.

"For fun."

Chen Ai's face turned red with anger.

"You—!"

"I'm full," Su Yan interrupted calmly.

Then she turned to her brother.

"Come on, get up. I'll escort you to school today."

"Really?"

Su Jin's face lit up with excitement.

"Let's go!"

The two siblings left the dining room together.

As soon as they were gone, Chen Ai slammed her hand on the table.

"That bitch!"

She turned toward her daughter.

"Why didn't you ask your father for money too?"

Su Lin rolled her eyes.

"Mom, I asked Dad for four hundred thousand just a few days ago."

"If I ask again now, he definitely won't give it to me."

Chen Ai frowned.

"That slut has changed a lot today."

"She treated me like I didn't even exist."

Su Lin smirked.

"Mom, just ignore her."

"Her grades are terrible anyway."

"The monthly exam is coming soon. She'll definitely rank last again."

"When I get better results than her, Dad will reward me with more money than that five hundred thousand."

Chen Ai nodded proudly.

"You only think about money."

"But that's fine."

"You must study hard and surpass her."

"When your father sees how capable you are and how useless she is…"

"He'll give you a share in his company."

"That's worth far more than a million."

Su Lin's eyes lit up.

"Really, Mom?"

"Of course."

"Just study hard and make me proud."

"Okay! I'm going to school now."

Su Lin grabbed her bag and hurried out.

Chen Ai smiled in satisfaction.
