The next day, the cerebrospinal fluid was successfully extracted. Clara divided the sample into three parts: one for routine biochemical testing, one for ELISA testing of biphasic neurons and NeuroD concentrations, and one centrifuged for sediment to make cell smears. The cell smear was ready the next morning, Clara fixed, stained, and mounted the smear, and placed it under the microscope.
She saw a few scattered cells. Their morphology was very peculiar; they had large nuclei, little cytoplasm, and some tiny protrusions at the edges of the cell membrane. Clara stared at these cells for a long time and then stood up to find Manstein.
"Professor Manstein, come and take a look."
Manstein walked over and leaned towards the microscope. He adjusted the focus and found those cells in the field of view, remaining silent for a long time. "Did you do the biphasic neuron staining?"
"Yes, positive."
"What about NeuroD?"
"Also done, also positive."
