Before the Medical Science Academy was established, the mindset of laboratory researchers was very impetuous. All research projects were short-term actions, mostly aimed solely at pursuing publications because papers were hard-core indicators, especially SCI papers, as if the endpoint of research was the paper.
In fact, the purpose of research is to explore the unknown world, not the paper. The paper is just a natural byproduct of this process, because research results need papers to record and publish.
Now that these laboratories have merged into the Medical Science Academy, Yang Ping has canceled paper indicators, provided ample funding and time, made no demands on results, and especially imposed no requirement for papers. Many people oppose this method, believing it will nurture idle people.
