Chapter 73 - Chapter 68: Madness

Hearing Kenpachi confront Scarlet, Yoruichi face palmed. She looked towards Kotori, seeing the flame spirit charge up her cannon, stepping aside she decided to speak.

"Scarlet left, not because of anything on her part. Kenpachi seems to think she's working for the enemy so. She's gone to take their fight elsewhere, it's just you and me now." Yoruichi spoke crossing her arms.

"Oh great, just when we needed her." Kotori spoke rolling her eyes. "Fine, I guess we have to do things on our own from here on out." The flame spirit charged up her cannon as the heat swelled and formed within, Kotori braced herself as she pulled the trigger. The ball of fire shooting forward and towards the gate door, Kotori lowered her cannon and turned it back into its battle-axe form.

The ball of fire burned a hole in the door, allowing access for Yoruichi and Kotori to get in. Yoruichi smirked as she took the lead, Kotori followed behind her as she scanned around for a moment. "So, where do we go from here?"

Yoruichi stretched and popped her bones. "We split up, simple as that. Sure without Scarlet, we wouldn't be able to cover as much ground as planned. But thanks to Kenpachi for assuming Scarlet was trying to make an easier entrance for the enemy...."

"Right." Kotori murmured. "I guess we go aid anyone we see that's in more danger than the others." She took a deep breath in and out. "There's no telling how far dragged Kenpachi out huh?"

Yoruichi stayed silent, pretty much answered Kotori's question. "She glanced around a bit herself, and pointed ahead. "I'm going that way. See what's over there and who may need help. I guess that leaves you to pick whatever direction to go. Just try not to get killed."

"That's gonna be fun..." Kotori spoke sarcastically rolling her crimson red eyes. "I can't make any promises." She let out a sigh and headed towards the left. "I'm going this way."

Yoruichi nodded her head lightly. "Alright, but if one of us happens to run into Kenpachi or Scarlet, well...we'll just have to see where things take us from there."

Kotori nodded her head lightly as she let out a small sigh. "Alright then."

~~~
Off in the distance, away from the chaos and war. Scarlet slammed her forehead against Kenpachi's. However, the soul reaper didn't even stagger back. He grinned as he slammed his forehead against Scarlet's but harder, knocking her back. Scarlet staggers as her head was throbbing, blood trickled down her forehead as she shook her head.
"Ugh....that one actually hurt." Scarlet mumbled to herself as she glared at Kenpachi, she didn't understand him. How was he not taking any damage, surely he was. Right?
"What's the matter kid? It's like you've seen a ghost." Kenpachi spoke resting his zanpakuto on his shoulder. "I must admit, I should give you some credit, holding your own against me. But I hate to break it to you. You won't last much longer, not against someone like me."
Scarlet growled and scoffed. "Tch, that's what you think. But I'll have you know. I won't back down, not when this is starting to become more and more fun by the minute." She twirled and spun Black Rose around, she slammed the blade of her scythe down into the ground.
Kenpachi grinned widely as he laughed. "I like you already! If you're proving to be this tough. I can't wait to see what else you've got in store."
"Fine then, but don't say I didn't warn you." Scarlet spoke with a cold tone in her voice. "But I should warn you...I don't play nice."
"By all means. Come at me...this is going to be a fun experience." Kenpachi spoke. "But you better not hold back, then I'll be disappointed. And I may have to kill you."
Scarlet scoffed at how cocky Kenpachi was being, she let go for Black Rose and jumped onto the handle, bouncing off of it and had jumped towards Kenpachi, she knew she couldn't tackle him. But instead she did the next best thing, once she had latched onto him, Scarlet dug her nails into his flesh. Her nails had dug deep into him as Scarlet opened her mouth and sank her fangs into his neck.
Kenpachi seemed unbothered by this, however. When he felt Scarlet bite into his neck, he got pissed and tore her away. He grabbed her by the back of her head, the force of him grabbing her and pulling here away did some damage to his body, but again. It didn't seem to faze Kenpachi. "You're starting to piss me off." He growled under his breath, but he smirked and slammed her down hard onto the ground. "Here, let me make this more understandable!"
The force of being slammed down took the breath right out of Scarlet's lungs. Her eyes widened as she spat up blood. Before she could even think or move out of the way, Kenpachi stabbed his zanpakuto into her back. Pinning her down onto the ground.
"Pathetic." Kenpachi spoke as he gazed down at her. "What happened to that Mojo? Weren't you supposed to be showing me a good time?"
Scarlet jerked her head up to look at him, her crimson red eyes glowed that same anger and annoyance Salem's did whenever she was unimpressed or pissed off. Like the saying goes, Like mother like daughter. The Grimm girl gritted her teeth as she snarled like an animal with rabies. "You sure talk a lot, do you really enjoy hearing yourself talk?" As she spoke, she slowly pushed herself up the blade and the handle of Kenpachi's zanpakuto. She didn't care if she was making her injury worse, she knew it would heal.
Kenpachi watched with a look of interest. He didn't say anything else as he stayed silent, his eye stared into Scarlet's, once Scarlet had pushed herself off of Kenpachi's zanpakuto. She yanked it out of the ground as she tossed it to Kenpachi, her wound slowly healing and closing up.
"Well now, I'm impressed...looks like I'm going to have my hands full with you." Kenpachi spoke grabbing his zanpakuto. "Just what the hell are you anyway? You're not a Quincy, nor are you a humanoid Hollow."
"You're right about that." Scarlet spoke as she dusted herself off. "I'm neither one of those, I'm something different, do I wish to tell you? Maybe, but now? I'd rather finish what we've started."
Kenpachi smirked as he rests his zanpakuto on his shoulder. "Really now? Well forget it kid. I've had my taste of what you can do. Judging by the way you keep looking back, I'm going to take a guess that your comrades have managed to get in."
Scarlet scoffed under her breath, the Grimm girl scowled. Her crimson red eyes glaring at Kenpachi. "So you've noticed. However, one of my so-called comrades, is a fellow Soul Reaper. I'm sure you know her."
Kenpachi raised an eyebrow. He removed his zanpakuto from his shoulder, pointing it at Scarlet. "Speak, if one of us Shinigami, had back stabbed Soul Society. I'll make sure they pay."
"Oh no, she didn't betray anyone." Scarlet purred. "Yoruichi helped us get here. You surly wouldn't want to fight her do you?"
Kenpachi's smirk faltered as he scoffed. "So she helped you get here? Very well, as long as that's proof we're getting aid in this war." He lowered his zanpakuto as he then turned and walked off. "Well? Don't just stand there, there's a job that has to be done."
~~~

Kotori unleashed a flaming fire ball from her cannon, the Quincy's caught in the blast were burnt, but it didn't seem to bother them much. They were just lackeys, a distraction for the real threats that were looming over the horizon.

"They just don't take a hint." Kotori grumbled, the flame spirit was getting pissed off. "It's almost like they don't care."

"Well now, aren't you a cutie." Bambietta spoke, she stood behind Kotori as she eyed the flame spirit. "And what do we have here anyway? Some new Shinigami with the powers of fire?" She smirked as she jumped down from one of the ruined buildings. "You look lost and frightened little lamb."

Kotori spun around on her heels as her cannon turned into its ax form. She glared at Bambietta, a chill ran down her spine, she knew this woman was powerful. Maybe too powerful, but she didn't let it show. "I'm no lamb. So you can drop that sweet talk right now."

Bambietta chuckled. "Oh? Very well then, I suppose I should feel honored that you looked past my...how you say, kindness."

Kotori smirked as she eyed Bambietta. "Trust me, I've dealt with someone like you before. Hiding their true colors behind a mask." She gripped her ax tightly as she watched Bambietta draw her sword.

"Well now." Bambietta spoke. "I need to meet this person now, I'm sure they'll be plenty of fun."

Kotori smirked. "Oh I'm sure you will, in fact. They're here, somewhere in Soul Society. You just gotta find them." The flame spirit wore her smirk proud. "But I should warn you, they don't play nice."

Bambietta cocked an eyebrow up. "Really? Well, that's good news for me. But bad news for you, I'll make sure your death is quick and painful. Then I can move onto this...person you speak so highly of."

Kotori's crimson red eyes glowed with anger, did she really think that low of her? Bambietta was being all bark and no bite, but still... Kotori knew she had to be cautious of this woman, one wrong move and she can kiss her ass goodbye. She needed to buy some time, hopefully by then Scarlet, or Yoruichi would be on their way to her location. No, what was she thinking? She's a spirit, she didn't need help from the Grimm girl. She wasn't a helpless child, if she goes berserk during this battle, so be it. She could lose control and have an entire area for her battle with Bambietta.

"Let me ask you one thing kid, what's your name?" Bambietta asked.

"Itsuka, Kotori Itsuka." Kotori spoke. "And you?"

"Itsuka? That's a name I've never heard before." Bambietta spoke, she stood her ground. Her sword pointed at Kotori. "My name? Well, I suppose I should let you know who your killer will be.. fine, my name is Bambietta Basterbine."

Kotori chuckled softly. "Basterbine? Heh, so you're a bastard. Suits you well.." Flames sparked off her and from her ax. "I'll show you what I can do, I won't hold back. Not for a second, so you better come at me. I'd hate to be disappointed."
